Awesome stuff. But I disagree with establishing a one on one relationship with a highly toxic narcissist. Sure...I won't completely cutoff either...but I won't be establishing any relationship with toxic people
What if you don't have parents or family, and were raised in foster care and badly abused; how would this work? For someone like me? Like how can I fix an important family relationship if there is no family, when you said your parents are the most important relationship to fix?? I am just curious how I can fix myself given my different situation?
It is not going to be easy but by Jove I respect this therapy system, am willing to follow as much as I can to become self differentiated & less emotional, no matter my financial status ! Thanks Dr. Wise & regards from Brazil Emanuel Erol
Reading books on Boundaries, such as "where to draw the line" by Anne Katherine, looking up specific videos that teach you how to set boundaries with people who struggle with mental health issues. Maintaining self-responsibility and having clear bounds around what feelings are your and what feelings are theirs.. boundaries decrease suffering over time and help everyone cope better. Though there is often an initial push back.
As an MFT I love this video. Well done. I pretty much exclusively use Bowen in tandem with CBT and reality therapy when needed. IMO and experience of the criticisms, the only one that at a surface level feels valid is the systemic purists as I do agree that sometimes the Bowen approach can seem to minimize the input from others outside of the primary dyad.
@@lilaznballaz1022 no because a good therapist stays self aware and recognizes their own biases. Also, the amount of time I have had a married couple whose chief complaint in their marriage was treatment by the police is zero. Not exactly a pressing issue in most relationships.
I think it would be very difficult to separate yourself emotionally from your loved ones in order to become more objective. I feel that as practical as this theory sounds, it defies our innate behaviours, such as caring for our family (i.e. it goes against our primal tribal instincts). How can we empathise when we separate emotionally, for instance? We're humans, not robots. Cutting yourself off from your family can cause immense trauma. An emotional separation can have a powerful negative impact. I see how this can serve as a self-protection strategy, but surely it alters your feelings and level of care towards significant others. Just my opinion.
It depends if the parents were overly abusive. Nobody wants to be abused. But emotional and physical distance from bad parents is the key to self differentiate low conscious individuals. And not everyone was made to be a parent because they themselves have their own traumas that they never took time to resolve.
@@ricardodelacrvz1400 have you stopped to think that perhaps circumstances made it impossible to be able to stop and examine one's feelings? Not top of the agenda when there are mouths to feed and work to be done. What an ignorant remark.
@@blobbybobs1Frankly I wish my parents had been more thoughtful and waited until they were financially secure when they had kids. I was the oldest and dealt the brunt of the trauma. My younger sibling was born when my parents had better jobs, a house, etc and she’s been able to function much better without extensive therapy. If you supposedly care about these kids you speak of - maybe consider the qualify of life you can provide as a parent and not be so selfish! Kids don’t exist to fulfill a parents happiness or existential needs.

Jerry, is there reason as an adult child of narcissistic parent when young and now with low self esteem and academics? I was in the resource room every yr from grades 1-12. I almost have a bachelor's degree with TONS of help thankfully.
hands down the best video i have seen describing Bowens theory. i have been having such a hard time trying to figure this out for my studies and this made it start to come together. THANK YOU!!

Agreed
I really like the way this one was done. Nicely summarized. Great clarity of concepts.
Agree! Thank you. (In-laws?) in our family they bring new cut offs and triangles too. Grandparents and grandchildren etc… expectations need to reset.
Dr Kirk ❤️❤️❤️

Great video, It went a bit too fast to be able to properly follow the concepts.
Simply an extraordinary way of simplifying difficult concepts. Thank you so much.
@@jerrywise Is this not someone else's work?
Very well explained, but shouldn't you say 'patient' instead of 'client'??
Very nice! Thank you! Basically you are teaching the family to think before reacting, and to work on the main instigator. It makes a lot of sense.
Fabulous explanation! Thank you . #BRILLIANT 🌟
Slow down trying to take notes
This is a simple and informative video. Thanks a lot for this! ✅
FASCINATING!!! Thank you Jerry
I find this video to be highly concise.

I need to find a bowien therapist badly 😭
I have a low level of differentiation because I don’t have any boundaries.
Thank you for using star wars.
Now I understand! Thank you❤️

Out of curiosity, is your work ever affected by your support of Blue Lives Matter? Like if say a client who supported Black Lives Matter for example
