I've had these headphones since Black Friday 2020. I've used them for everything from gaming to listening to music and they are great, also very comfortable with how light they are and the clamping force isn't high which as a glasses wearer is a plus.

I own the HD599s in beige/brown. Great sound, and very comfortable. I am a musician, and listen to mostly classical (choral/orchestral works) at home, through the headphone output on my Marantz CD5003.
I love these headphones, I wouldn't say I'm an audiophile so I've definitely not listened to headphones that cost like £500+. But I do appreciate good sound. I use these for music, movies, games, and everything sounds excellent. I do have a closed gaming headset for when I'm chatting to friends or just want sound isolation which is the Epos H6 Pro. Great review and video
I'm impressed with the sound quality. I can wear them for hours. I think you're going to have to spend over 300 dollars to get better comfort and sound quality. The bass isn't punchy but there's plenty of clean, defined bass in my opinion . Sound is subjective and what sounds good to one person may sound different to another., especially if you're older. After all, 60 year old ears aren't the same a 22 year old ears. By the time you've reached 60, your ears have gone through a lot of loud concerts that made your ears ring for 3 days. That can't be good.
Another great review Mike. I've had sennheiser headphones on and off since the 1980's . I've got a pair of hd558's very similar to the one's you have reviewed. Bass isn't overly heavy but everything is nice and clear and nothing harsh like some headphones. Like you said the leads and the headphone pads can all be purchased which adds to longevity. You get what you pay for the hd600s or hd800's are the reference phones but cost a lot more....
Very good review. I've had mine for about 4 years now and they are pretty great for all genres of music and very comfortable. I'm not a gamer so can't comment on how good they are for gaming, but having looked at several reviews they seem to be great headphones for gaming too. I've got a lot of headphones in the HD599SE price range and these are right up at the top of my favourites. The only phones to beat them for sound quality and really outshine them to my ears (by a considerable margin) are the Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee available from 'Drop' for $149 or £117 plus shipping. I listen to them through a Zen DAC2 and while I would describe the HD599SE as excellent, the HD58X Jubilee are phenomenal. Anyone prepared to wait for them to arrive from the USA should get a pair, before Sennheiser realise they have made a mistake with the pricing. They are as good as the Senn HD600's at a fraction of the price.
Got mine for $60 on black friday and it took months for me to 'get used' to the audio quality as I was always wearing gaming headphones or apple products before

I dunno if you get notifications on videos this old, but if so I have a few questions. How do you think the sound compares to Sony XM3 or 4s? Is there any noticeable creaking when moving around with them on? Do you think they require an amp? I get that they're just beyond most output devices and could use an amp, but I've seen people argue both ways on if the amp matters and by how much? Anyway, this review was great, and the best one I've seen for the 599s so far, so thanks for your work.
thanks for watching and i'll be honest the sonys i have no idea sorry i think i tried the xm3 years ago so it isn't very fresh in my mind. With the 599 it will depend on where you are running them from. I like to use the little USB DAC from sharkoon and it just lifts my PC output enough to work them a bit harder and give the music and films a bit more feel. having said that when i have been too lazy to grab the dac and just plugged them in they are still very enjoyable
Most peoples hearing is maxed out around 18000 with some women in the very low-20000hz range. I remember my science tech telling me this in high school. Also a friend who works in a hearing clinic said that’s pretty much true. Some Women generally (10-15% of the female population) can hear into 20000-21500 range. Overall the frequency range above 20000 is just marketing only 😂😅🤣 on any headphone or headset 🤑💰💵
You are right but it is not a marketing gimmick, the headphones can produce that frequencies even though we can't hear that. It is to give a wide range
Like those gaming mice - 70G acceleration, 750 inch (19 meters) per second speed. You swing that thing casually and the cursor ended up in your neighbor’s laptop. Ten houses away. Who use that kind of gimmick at their maximum speed? Mind blown.
It's the low end frequency that is most important, anything below 20hz is usually better bass, depending on the quality of course. These should sound good with those specs, the best headphones only go down to 10hz normally.
My two cents after using for about 6 months. This is a entry level audiophile headphone. Its entry level because the sound stage isnt that great but there is decent instrument separation. They however arent that great for listening to general music (non classical music esp) as the vocals are very subdued like someones put a blanket over a speaker. Treble is very nice however its not very bassy. They are excellent for two things:watching movies and gaming as they are insanely comfortable. So music lovers maybe spend a lil more and get the hd560

I don't recommend Turtle Beach. While they sound great, they are cheaply made and the adjustable plastic where the ear muffs are, will break after about 2 years of use. This is a known flaw in their design. I was able to squeeze another 6 months of use out of them by taking them apart and epoxying them (after shortening them, but luckily they still fit). Eventually the dongle died on them. My recommendation is Corsair Void RGB Pro or Elite.
