I put one in my sons build, R5 3600, 1660 super. He has had it for 2 years now with no problems. I have said though I will upgrade it when I upgrade his PC. Nice to see they are now black cables and not the red and yellow.
Seems like a good Power supply for a budget build, planning to move my parts from my prebuilt PC into a different case and this power supply, specs are i5 8400 and gtx 1050, which is changing it to a gtx 970, as its my friend old unit. Glad to see they're using black cables as supposed to ketchup and mustards cables.
Never usually judge a budget power supply like this, but had one of these that tripped out a 3600 / RTX2060 build every time the gpu ramped up. So I can’t recommend it. I know at this price point it’s a little more hit and miss but hard not to be tainted by them! Returned it and swapped it out with a slightly lower wattage but a few quid more bronze Corsair unit.
I've run a 5900X/3070 on this power supply for a while on 120V. I didn't have any issues with it but I eventually replaced it with a better one. This one went into an old X79 machine with a bus powered single slot GPU.
I got this PSU bundled with an RTX2060 from Scan. I presume it's a suitable PSU for that GPU for that reason; was your possibly faulty? (or some other component factoring in?)
Iv currently got the same issue. im using a 3060 and sometimes my pc crashes. im assuming its cause my gpu ramped up so my psu just overloaded and turned the pc off. really annoying.
So I was browsing through the budget PSUs and these EVGA W1, W2 & W3 80+ White units drew my attention. If you're on a very tight budget and you can't afford anything better, then my comment should be very helpful for you: (I am a PC builder and I've built 100+ PCs, probably more than 1000 depending on when you read my comment, and I've dealt with many cheap PC parts, so I wanna share my experience with you all in the hopes that it can be a help to you) Just because that this brand (EVGA) is popular and many experienced reviewers and tech people are buying these and explaining how bad it is, it doesn't mean that it's a fire hazard and you should avoid it. If you live in a place where you can't afford better and more expensive hardware, the chances are that you've bought way, waaaayyy worse stuff than this, this might even be the best PSU you'll ever buy, heck, this is premium in my country. There are hundreds of other PSUs that people don't know about, they're so bad that I'm scared to touch them even while they're powered off. But just because that you have info about this particular model, that doesn't mean that you should avoid it. I love that you explained the quality of the capacitors and what not, Mike, that's pretty much the same thing I would've said. But should you use this in ur computer? Well, if you can't afford a better unit, then this is the best amongst the budget PSUs out there. If you wanna pair this with any RTX 20 series, 30 series or anything better than that, or if you're using an AMD GPU then RX 5600, RX 6600 or better will be too much for the PSU. Now it doesn't mean that the PSU will explode if it overloads, it'll simply shut down, or at least it should, that will be the indication that it cannot handle the amount of power that your PC is drawing from it. Besides the GPUs I mentioned, anything that needs more than an 8pin + 6pin will be too much for this PSU, like GTX 1080 TI or something like that. The efficiency of this PSU shines in budget, low-end-ish builds, like it's perfect for any GPU with a single 6pin, no matter which GPU it is, a single 6pin can only draw like 75W which is not even enough to stress this PSU in any way shape of form, so pairing this with any GPU that only needs a single 6pin power connector will be fine.
The part of this comment where it says not to use for an rx 6600 is patently wrong. I'm using the 600 watt version of this power supply along with an ryzen 3600, rx 6600 and not once have I had any issues power supply-wise. I'm also running a cheap A320 motherboard to boot. I've run Furmark and Heaven benchmarks while also sending my cpu into full load with no problems. As long as one doesn't overclock to 10 gazillion gigahertz, you'll be fine with this supply.

yeah the wide range or brands and specs will always trigger someone somewhere. This isn't a bad PSU as such, clearly there are "better" ones out there, but if the price is right and it suits your needs i would recommend it
Personally, I'm not a fan of budget PSUs. Most of the time you do get what you pay for. But at least it's not a Gigabyte bomb. 😂 I usually go for EVGA or Seasonic. I'm also glad I have an 850-watt unit because I just bought a Sapphire Pulse RX 6800.
...EVGA makes plenty of 'budget' PSUs, some good and some suck, why? Bc they are not an OEM like Seasonic is, and they put their name on several models, made by different OEMs for them.
Wasnt evga the maker of those psu's that set afire and GNexus investigated? Looks nice unit for money but prefer Aerocool semi modular as my cabling skills not the best lol Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍
@Nick Barnes, no man, EVGA does not make any PSUs. Always surpises me, how few people understand the name on the PSU means little. It is all about the OEM and the CAPS.
I always go for generally platinum / titanium and the one off gold rated psu’s for my builds as I tend to reuse them for at least 1-2 upgrade cycles (3-5yr total) 😇🥰👍. We’re fortunate here in Australia 🇦🇺 to have at least 230/240v 10amps (2400w total)… I think in the UK you have 230/240v 15amps (3600w total)…. So you can a server basically on it 🤯👍. I’ve only every used 1x EVGA 850w Platinum rated psu (~9yr old) and still going good as new 🥰🤩. I use it on my pc part test rig 👍now.
each to their own, I don't feel that i am taking risks, but i do realise that my PSU is not suitable for all possible configurations. Bit like home or car insurance, there are levels that you feel comfortable with depending on the variables.
I I have this thing running on my old rig from like 2009 with a phenom x 4 955 and a radeon hd 7850 + 8gb ram and I think it barely keeps that running, I would never use this on anything higher than that, this PSU is designed for i3's and ryzen 3's and any phenom 4x and lower IMHO, my main RIG has an EVGA 850 w platinum and my other rig has an ASUS ROG STRIX that have been working like a charm, Seasonic is very good too

yeah the wide range or brands and specs will always trigger someone somewhere. This isn't a bad PSU as such, clearly there are "better" ones out there, but if the price is right and it suits your needs i would recommend it
Excellent work Bobo.
@@PapaMav Why thank you young fella
@@uglybob7505 LOL, thank you Bob, I greatly appreciate that moniker !

will this do for a Ryzen 5 5500 and RX 6650XT?
yes should be fine
Will it be fine with i5 12400f and rx 6600 ?
yes should be fine
Would this be alright for a Ryzen 5 5500 and a rx 580 8gb ?
yes fine
what if i upgraded to a 1660 super
@@aadilismail9192 that will be fine also and probably uses less power
is a i5-10400f and a gtx 1080 good for this psu?
yes it should be fine
System still running fine?
Is this okay for an ryzen 5 3600 and an rx6800?
hmm in theory yes but it is a bit low end for a gpu like that
@@mikesunboxing i will only use this config for 1-2 months until i upgrade to a 700w be quiet for 90€
Personally, I'm not a fan of budget PSUs. Most of the time you do get what you pay for. But at least it's not a Gigabyte bomb. 😂 I usually go for EVGA or Seasonic. I'm also glad I have an 850-watt unit because I just bought a Sapphire Pulse RX 6800.
Yes, for $580....
...EVGA makes plenty of 'budget' PSUs, some good and some suck, why? Bc they are not an OEM like Seasonic is, and they put their name on several models, made by different OEMs for them.
....and not to mention, a GPU cooler at the bargain price of $150....
@@PapaMav I don't know if I will water-cool my 6800.
@@OlettaLiano since I never have a water cooled a GPU, I ask you, what factors go into your determining whether to or not? Thank you.
Wasnt evga the maker of those psu's that set afire and GNexus investigated? Looks nice unit for money but prefer Aerocool semi modular as my cabling skills not the best lol Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath👍
I think you mean Gigabyte ?
it was gigabyte, a brand which i don't see a lot of for some reason. can't think what the last gigabyte review actually was.
@Nick Barnes, no man, EVGA does not make any PSUs. Always surpises me, how few people understand the name on the PSU means little. It is all about the OEM and the CAPS.
My apologies, i had recalled the wrong brand, you are correct GN had Gigabyte psu's blowing at 60%load. 👍
@@Senrab46 I forgive you ... but next time I won't be so merciful 😜
Anyone know if this would fit into a dell optiplex 3020 mt?
doesn't seem so, but post a picture of the PSU you have and cables on the discord and i'll confirm
@mikesunboxing it's just a normal 290 watt psu that the dell optiplex 3020 have,it's 150mm x 150mm x 85mm
Completely unecessary and over expenditure.
each to their own, I don't feel that i am taking risks, but i do realise that my PSU is not suitable for all possible configurations.
Bit like home or car insurance, there are levels that you feel comfortable with depending on the variables.
Anyone have issues with PC restarting under load?
Not here but awaiting responses
@@mikesunboxing Think it was my GPU (mining) as the BIOS were flashed, piece of shit scammers on ebay
I have with my 650w N1 and ryzen7700x + 1070 Ti. Trying to run anything with an uncapped framerate will shortly cause the system to shutdown.
I I have this thing running on my old rig from like 2009 with a phenom x 4 955 and a radeon hd 7850 + 8gb ram and I think it barely keeps that running, I would never use this on anything higher than that, this PSU is designed for i3's and ryzen 3's and any phenom 4x and lower IMHO, my main RIG has an EVGA 850 w platinum and my other rig has an ASUS ROG STRIX that have been working like a charm, Seasonic is very good too
6:50 You mean six plus 2?
Yeah that sounds right

660W in 2022?! Lol
What's so funny m8?
depends on what sort of system you have or are building.
@@mikesunboxing Yes, of course! But Watts are now like inflation. 4090 rumors say about kinda 800W. No words!
