Very comprehensive and great explanation. I am learning about migraine pathology to prepare for a PhD interview, and this video has been great in explaining CSD to me! Thank you!
Hello, I would just like to thank you for this video. I’ve been having a lot of aura migraines in the past year and when I see my neurologist they never give me the explanation of what’s going on physiologically. I really appreciate this.
I get every symptom and have them twice monthly. I still don't know what my triggers are but I never have them when I was pregnant. Nothing but sleep helps. Doctors keep giving paracetamol. Lucky I'm pregnant again and haven't had any so far. Maybe it might be a hormonal thing. Have had them since I was 12 now I'm 26.
Estrogen is a vasodilator, estrogen tends to drop during ovulation, until after menstruation, which is when women experience migraines. Birth control pills help many women with migraines for this reason. Hot showers also help during migraines: vasodilation. Anecdotal evidence: I have migraines that are alleviated by vasodilation, however I believe both vasodilation and seratonin play a role as I have a severe reaction to SSRI's, both Zoloft and Celexa resulted in seizures, tachycardia, convulsions, quite concerning, worse in that these medications did not work whatsoever to alleviate anxiety or depression. If I were a doctor I'd be careful prescribing SSRI's to people with migraines. I have none of these negative symptoms/side effects with tyrosine, also none of the sexual dysfunction associated with SSRI's, and am quite happy and not at all anxious, tyrosine is quite effective whereas SSRI's were quite dangerous. Doctors must be more careful about prescribing drugs without properly screening and diagnosing their patients for contraindications.
It is not when women experience migraine. It is when some women experience migraines. Not all migraines are estrogen/hormone related. And i wish a simple thing like a hot shower would help a migraine attack! But no
I will get headaches where my neck goes into spasm. I CANNOT move my neck left.or right at all. Moving it up or down is painful. I usually do not have a headache involved but may not know as the neck pain is so extreme. When my.neck is not to bad - I find stretching it like I had a string at the top of my head. Also stretch my spine as much as I can. I have had spinal problems since a young age and something congenital in my neck as well thought they have not discussed this issue with me. I wonder if my C1 and C2 are affected. You also but why do some doctors feel that only they should have the information. When young I used to have headaches where the aura was like my left eye would pop out of my head. I would just pull over the car and not drive.
Having information is the best defense. You learn the.most you can about your co dition a d how to manage it. I am now 64 and am basically housebound I know if adequately.medicated , I could go back swimming a d my legs and arms would not continue to get weaker and weaker. I need to get swimming which to me is like breathing. I do core exercises while swimming and when in "the zone" due plenty of meditation.
It is believed that the focal point of migraine is the brainstem which regulates the vascular tone and pain. The triggers would stimulate the migraine generator which is the brain stem resulting in contraction of brain stem and vasoconstriction accompanied by cortical spreading depression starting from the base of the brain forward. The vasoconstriction is followed by vasodilation as ischaemia is the biggest trigger for vasodilation. This wud specifically stretch the vessels surrounding the trigeminal nerve increasing the trigeminal sensory neuronal activity. These activated neurons release cgrp, substance p and neurokinin which further aggravate the inflammation. Resulting in the pain Hope this clears your doubt...
