    So I own both vehicles and I'm just going to make some points for any future buyer watching this video.
    The f30 is definitely more modern, with a more aggressive exterior and sexier, more functional interior, all angles and lines considered.
    the f30 has a plethora of available features that are super cool and add function and practicality to the car in ways the e90 lacks, so make sure to find one that was close to or fully loaded.
    the f30 is generally more reliable (though both are reliable) but more *importantly* , easier to fix. I do all my own maintenance on both and some of the engineering tricks they used for the f30 maintenance is a godsend- seriously, were talking an hour less or more for some of the same jobs.
    the f30 auto transmission is miles ahead of the e90. I had an e90 manual once upon a time but now both are autos, so idk about the manuals. Probably comparable.
    The f30 has adaptive modes and suspension (optional). This is amazing. It's like hitting a "change personality button." Soft? Sure. Rough and sporty? Sure. Eco mode to get 23.5 mpgs? Why not.
    Now the e90...
    the e90 is definitely more solid in the interior. The f30 interior is cheaper in feel in virtually every way- chalk that up to the lighter plastics they needed to save weight over the e90 (~120lbs) and cost cutting. Between the two, you'll notice the difference straight away and the e90s will definitely last longer. The f30 has creaks and rattles at 60k that my e90 doesn't at 135k miles.
    the e90 feels much more sporty. It's stiff sport suspension and tight, heavy steering wheel with it's amazing hydraulic rack are untouchable by the f30, which, even in sport+, feels soft. Seriously, a tad too much roll. With the e90, You are one with the road- with an f30, you're just some passenger on top of the road. It's a massive difference, and why I guarantee you that unless you're a pro driver, you'll be faster in the e90 than you would be in an f30 (around corners, track, autocross). The f30 is faster on paper but the confidence... Is non existent. The feedback is just too vague. (this probably makes the f30 a better daily/casual car).
    And that's it! One last thing... GET ONE WITH THE OPTIONAL PREMIUM AUDIO! seriously, the Harmon kardon surround in these cars (13 speaker in e90, 16 in f30) is amazing. They have DSPs, and if you don't know what that means, it means it sounds amazing. Bass, trebble, all of it.
    Good luck!

      I couldn't agree more with your assessment. I have 2010 335d with 133K miles and I never get tired of driving it - did a cross country trip long ago. When I have had newer three-series cars as loaners they seem soft and insulated from the road by comparison - I just don't want to own one. The dealer told me the 2020s would be more like the older cars in feel - not sure if that's true?.

    Great video! I own an F30 now but I can also confirm that I really miss the old hydraulic steering wheel - probably they changed because this way you can select between the eco / comfort / sport modes which also has an effect on the steering.

    I have a 2019 SE F30 320i Estate, 8speed ZF Auto transmission. I bought it, because it was a very low milage, 29k miles, and a face lifted version, allegedly pretty reliable, with the new B48 engine.
    I tested a few other cars before that, including a 2017 F30 320i Estate Msport , a 2006 E90 320i Auto and a 2012 F30330D Auto and a F30 2016 320D Manual.
    I chose the car I bought mainly because of the condition it was (the best among all others ) - and the low milage. What can I say, comparing it to the others:
    The electronic steering of the F30 does feel definitely more unnatural, compared to any other older BMW ( and I have driven a lot). In the normal, non-msport version - it feels quite clumsy on the handling side- when driving slowly in town. When driving out if town, in high speed and it on tight twisty roads - it comes alive, as any BMW. But driving in town is pretty soft and disappointing, the car just does not feel nimble (although quite comfortable).
    In the M-sport version - it really makes a difference, even though the steering rack is exactly the same - the lowered and stiffened suspension and the sportier steering wheel - make the feeling much nicer. But the ride is noticeably stiffer on the M- sport version though. The ride of the on-Msport version of the F30 is REALLY smooth and soft, it is more like a 5 series, and definitely the most comfy ride over bumps of any 3 series. The seats of the M-sport version are also much, much nicer than the non-mSport one.
    About the 2.0i engine, compared to the one in the E90: there really is no comparison. The turbo- engine of the F30 feels more like a 6 cylinder in terms of acceleration and power, pretty much on the level of the 320d in terms of performance. The E90 320i is quite disappointing and way much slower than the respective 320D model.

    • @vanhakaveri
      @vanhakaveri 5 лет назад +7

      The bigger engine ones can be a lot more expensive, to buy and to run.

      here let me give you an example : in my country they have 3 categories of taxes ( annual taxes ) and it depends on your engine , first category is the small engines like anything under 1.8L those are cheap to pay ( the tax ) then u have the 2L 's engines which is the limit of any one person from middle class would deem payable cuz above that they fuck you so hard you start hating cars so you might as well find the best 2L car rather than go with the better option which is the 3 L .. do u think i d rather have a 320 d than a 340 i ? no but the systeme makes it so that the 340 i is rare( no one wants to pay high taxes ) and cheap ( due to loss of value ) , on the other hand 320 d is booming and keeps most of its value ..

    • @alexandert4252
      @alexandert4252 3 года назад

      @vanhakaveri But we're talking about BMW. At least where i'm from - most of the people buy BMW for speed, acceleration and handling, partly for status. BMW is not a practical choice for "just a car" and unless you need these specific qualities - you usualy choose a different brand. You want to be at least faster than camry/golf/some hyundai next to you.

  • @Abhishek-150
    @Abhishek-150 6 лет назад +16

    The manual transmission on E90.. heavy steering wheel, Rear wheel drive, stiff suspension and everything is perfectly fine for this car to be a real drivers car and not a pussies car who need every comfort in there car and want to involve less and less in driving
    F30 is a big disappointment for me..
    If i want that comfort and ease then I'll choose Audi or Mercedes not BMW..
    BMW is known for there Drivers cars but just 1 generation changed everything.. BMW is loosing there Soul..
    I don't know where this world is going..

    I currently own a Black on Black 2006 330i with the 6 Speed Manual and I've test driven an F30 328i 2 weeks ago and honestly, I wasn't impressed. The car felt way cheaper than my E90 in literally every aspect. The Exterior is pretty average ( except for the 335 //M or M3 ) and the interior felt like a Mazda. The handling and engine/exhaust sound were the 2 worst factors if u ask me. It handled like a Japanese car and sounded like a diesel. It's a shame that BMW isn't what it used to be anymore; they seem to be going downhill. I also want to add that E90 is still keeping up pretty well with current cars on the road, most ppl can't believe that mine is a 2006 and they think it's a 2-5 years old car ( I keep my cars Mint, maybe that's why, but u still get the point ).

    • @TheNondiscriminatory
      @TheNondiscriminatory 6 лет назад +1

      Bryan Valencia this is bullshit. Op is right. The f30 interior looks cool but it's absolutely cheaper. It feels like they used lighter, cheaper plastics, as well as the sounds it makes- it creaks! Seriously, just getting in and out the handle creaks and if you do the push test (push on your stereo, dash a bit) it creaks too. I literally own both an while the f30 interior is pretty cool and certainly has more features, the cost cutting they had to do (as well as the weight savings over the e90 of almost 200lbs- while being a bigger car) are evident. Honestly I think it was a combination of needing to save weight and cost. I should note the e90 currently sits pretty at 140k miles (got it at 70) and the interior is rock solid with no creaking.

    I drove my neighbor's 335i every now and then before buying my self the e90 320i. The 335i it's such a fun car to drive but i realized i really don't drive like this having so much power and not having the use for it since a never go over 130 roughly 140km so i bought myself this same exact car in your vid the bmw e90 2011 facelift 2.0 N/A with 19" oem 361m wheels which i found enough for me being a "Grandpa" type of driver but what disgusted me most is the N46 engine with 160hp is so under-powered which i founded very disappointing for being a BMW. Despite the fact that it's a heavy car. So i made intake and exhaust work on the car to barely make an extra 25hp making it much punchier and responsive now. I could just simply go the other route buying a 2009 335i or 325i e92 for the same price but that's just what everyone else will do and i hate doing everybody does besides i just don't use all that power and it's just my personal preference. the 320i it is still a very sporty set up and it feels so hooked to the ground it eats curves like biting an apple. could not be fun for most but it's fun for me. nice video bro keep it up 👌👍

      E90 320i from 2011? That has to be N43 then, 170 PS, unless yours is from a different market, South Africa or something. I have 2009 318i and it's N43 too, but 143 PS. Really good car, although I would like some more Nms for sure. For an everyday drive mostly in city it's definitely enough. Best plus is fuel consumption, combined can easily go down to like 7-7.5, maybe even less if you drive more extra-urban cycle + highways = thanks to the good drag cooefficient, 6-speed manual, day time running lights and auto start-stop system.

      You're a dick, hate on them all you want when they run over a bunch of kids in a stolen truck.
      Hating on them when they're putting a proper review on youtube makes zero fucking sense.
      I've owned an E46, E90, F30 & F34, his review of these cars is perfectly accurate.
      Also I'm white and have a beard, it's not as fluffy though. It's more a white guy beard lel

    F30s & e90s are very simple. One you buy & the other you don’t... stay away from e90s

      @@the1anonymouse e90s are apparantly hard to fix, F30 are easier to fix and currently more common so shouldn't be a hassle to get parts
