Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and civil rights activist who had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. Among his many efforts, King headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Through his nonviolent activism and inspirational speeches, he played a pivotal role in ending legal segregation of Black Americans, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. He was assassinated by James Earl Ray and died on April 4, 1968, at age 39. King continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational Black leaders in history.
King was fatally shot by James Earl Ray at 6:01 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 1968, as he stood on the motel's second-floor balcony. The bullet entered through his right cheek, smashing his jaw, then traveled down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder. Abernathy heard the shot from inside the motel room and ran to the balcony to find King on the floor.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park covers about 35 acres (0.14 km2) and includes several sites in Atlanta, Georgia related to the life and work of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Within the park is his boyhood home, and Ebenezer Baptist Church - the church where King was baptized and both he and his father, Martin Luther King Sr., were pastors - as well as, the grave site of King, Jr., and his wife, civil rights activist Coretta Scott King.
The tomb of Martin Luther Jr. and Coretta Scott King is located across Auburn Avenue from the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park Visitor Center on the grounds of the King Center. Freedom Hall sits at the east end of the reflecting pool that now surrounds the tomb, and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church is located near the west end.
King was originally buried at South-View Cemetery on Jonesboro Road in Atlanta, the same place as his parents. His body was reinterred in the King Center tomb in 1970, though at the time the administrative building, Freedom Hall, and the reflecting pool did not exist (the administrative building and pool were completed in 1977, and Freedom Hall opened in 1981). When Coretta died on January 30, 2006, she was also buried elsewhere because the original tomb was only designed to hold one coffin. After being enlarged, her body was reinterred next to her husband in November 2006.

The reason why Martin Luther King's childhood home was gated off was because a crazy girl tried to burn it down. Smh. It was all over the news. This was a beautiful video. Was a pleasure to watch on the last day of Black History Month ❤

I live in Atlanta I remember back in 2016 I was working and we had no work and my co worker told me where Martin’s grave was at I was down the street from it so I went to go check it out and my job didn’t mind. I went and saw his and his wife Coretta’s grave, I saw the church they used to attend to, and the SCLC place they used to be at as well and I was amazed to be there cus I love MLK and the security guard was nice as well she just told everyone don’t sit on the thing where the graves were at but we can take photos. The experience was amazing for me.

Now at 42, over my last 30+ years I have read, watched and learnt so much more about this great man and this important movement. I love that you let the places, words and visuals tell the story. Compelling. Remembrance. Hope. I hope to visit one day soon. Much love to you Scott long time fan, love your videos. Rest in Power Dr King and Mrs King.

Thanks so much for this, Scott. I came here to New York from Maryland in 1968 with my mom & lived downstairs in the basement apartment in my grandmother and aunt’s house. I remember being upstairs in my grandmother’s house in the living room and I saw Dr. King’s funeral procession on tv. I didn’t understand who he was, then, cause I was age 5 going on 6 that year. As I got older & did more research and watching documentaries, I fully loved and appreciated him as well as Coretta for everything they’ve done in the name of civil rights. After Dr. King was assassinated, Coretta picked up where he left off & kept his memory alive. This video got me very teary eyed. I miss Dr. Martin & Coretta Scott King very much. Thanks again. Much love to you.

Love the museum lots of interesting things to see and read.the fire station was a beautiful building and the fire engine was magnificent so shiny everything well looked after. The guy had some very interesting things to say also. Loved the church I could almost smell the wood and polish just beautiful. His and his wife's resting place is just amazing unbelievable what a beautiful place to rest forever. Thanks so much for sharing this Scott I found it so interesting. I actually sent it to my friend in Teennase ( originally from Michigan where I visited in 2018 ) I've told her she must watch your videos your amazing . Anyway can't wait for the next one love from West Yorkshire UK 🇬🇧 🩷🩶🖤💚💙💜🩷

This is the most poignant site in all the world, so befitting for one of the greatest humans that ever lived. His legacy has been well preserved almost 60 years on. Great job Scott. You always pick the right music to accompany your videos as well. RIP to his son Dexter who recently passed, and continued strength and resilience to Bernice and the rest of the King family.

What a beautiful video about the amazing Martin Luther King Jr. I remember hearing about those great places, I always wanted to go hopefully one day. Then learning about the great Martin Luther King Jr in school. His speech just makes me cry every time from hearing it to reading it. What an amazing man he was. More people should definitely be like you & him for y’all are about unity & loving & accepting people for whom they are & that’s how we all should be. This world needs more love like that. Thank you as always sweet Scott❤️

This was all very moving, thanks for bringing us along. The monument and park is a very fitting tribute for such a great man. My parents always brought Dr. King up alongside Nelson Mandela examples of the struggles for equality and civil rights in different countries and I’m glad to be able to show them his and his wife’s final resting place. RIP Dr. & Mrs. King

This was SO touching and very well done. Ive always wondered where MLK was buried and what kind of memorial there was for him. This blew me away, and Im SO glad to see they preserved all of this in his memory. I loved they put a beautiful pool around his and Coretta's graves, it is stunning. Thank you Scott for showing this. It gave me chills watching this. ❤

Hi Scott, thank you so much for sharing this video (Brought me to tears)
For the atrocity behavior people of color (I am a proud woman of color and it breaks my heart) what we had to endure BUT also for the legacy he and his wife has left for everyone to see.
We, as a people, still have a long way to go.
    😥
