    NOTE: Lots of people in these comments are trying to say "Actually there is a second season". No there's not, there were 2 parts released. What you're referring to is PART 2 of Season 1, not Season 2. Articles online and all official sources confirm this that these parts are both season 1. There is no second season. If a show really needs to be as popular as ST and Wednesday for Netflix to care about them, Netflix would instantly cancel shows that people obviously hate because they're not popular at all and wouldn't make Netflix a significant amount of money, but that's not the case. I feel like either the creators of these unpopular shows pay Netflix unrealistic amounts of money to continue their unpopular shows and the creators of Inside Job aren't, some competitor is paying Netflix more money than they will ever make from ST and Wednesday to run its company down to the ground, or we live in a corrupted timeline where the worst shows in existence are SOMEHOW the most profitable in SOME illogical way.

    I feel like Reagan and Brett in particular are such magnetic characters, and the way that the show approaches neurodivergency is really unique. Aside from Zoe in Sesame Street, I genuinely don't think I've ever seen a portrayal of an autistic character that isn't just a skinny, quiet white boy who is good at maths and loves trains (no disrespect to those kinds of autistic people, we're just not all like that), and the way they handle Reagan coming to terms with herself without making it inspiration porn is really well handled. Tbh, I was hoping that in season two we'd get a reveal that Brett is on the spectrum too - I mean, the puppetry thing? HARD relate - I'm a puppeteer myself and I'm pretty sure that my autism and my love of puppetry are related. It's much easier for me to communicate my feelings through a puppet than it is for me to outwardly show emotions. It would have been super refreshing to see a portrayal of an autistic/neurodivergent person who is extroverted and is really good at blending in with non-autistics, because there are quite a lot of us who don't really fit that socially awkward mould!

    • @greyscaleadaven
      @greyscaleadaven Год назад

      Agreed as a somewhat skinny gay white boy who everyone thought was good at math just because he was autistic lmao... Also yeah I would definitely have related with an autistic spin on Brett, most people wouldn't know I was autistic even after knowing me for like years unless I told them really. A lot of people really don't understand how social masking works, and Brett would be a great way of conveying that more nuanced discussion topic. Not that Brett HAS to be autistic either, because anyone can really grapple with people pleasing and self-worth. But I'm glad Reagan was such a good depiction of an autistic kid in between two narcissistic divorced parents. That much was pretty darn relatable. The fact that we either have to seek out telegraphed representation or just settle for speculating upon autisitc coding is sad (ash from pokemon is my personal example, shoving down his familial and personal problems, taking a really long time to get good at battling but excelling at it later on, learning better his own way rather than in traditional school settings, 'aura' as an unintentional metaphor for neurodivergency, etc.).

    They did the same thing with Warrior Nun. Cancelled after 2 seasons due to "not getting enough views". Even though it was one of Netflix's highest rated shows both with audiences and critics. Not to mention it received over 26 millions hours viewed in the first week of release and that was season 2. Netflix is holding Squid game and Stranger things as a baseline for any new show, if it doesn't hit the views they did, they get cancelled. Whether the show ended on a cliff-hanger or not. Reviews, awards, or audience satisfaction is not a metric they're tracking. This could be why Mike Flanagan has left for Amazon video before talks about a second season of the Midnight Club start. Also, A good reason why this Elvis series is coming could be due to the fact Netflix will do anything to hit a sense of nostalgia.
    I've actually just uploaded a video myself on why Netflix is collapsing where I talk more about why Netflix does this. Check it out if you get the time, would love your take on it 👍but regardless, love your opinions in this video aha 🤣 very engaging!

      I don’t see streaming going anywhere, but I do see the platform shifting. This could occur in a few ways.
      1.) Companies are going to begin to form bundles and we will be right back to something similar to cable.
      2.) Smaller companies that are barely afloat get purchased by the larger companies and competition narrows.
      3.) Companies begin to realize they are losing money from having their own streaming platform compared to selling the rights to see their films on streaming.
      4.) A third-party innovation somehow makes streaming obsolete (unlikely).
      I do think Netflix may be one of the first streaming companies to go simply due to a lack of the established library some other companies have, as well as very poor decisions as of late.

    • @kaiserfoxi266
      @kaiserfoxi266 Год назад

      @Perennial Lachrymosity I understand it was supposed to have more seasons. it's not just the ending itself that I didn't like, but where the story was going. I started watching the show initially because the setting was really cool. A late nineteenth century immigrant ship? That looked great. Now it's revealed that it's not even set in 1899 at all. No matter how many seasons where left, several things were made clear by the ending. 1: the setting sold by the show isn't even the reality. 2: Everything that happened between the characters on the ship is null because it happened in a simulation that happened multiple times and would happen again. None of the character development at that point mattered. 3: Many of the plot points where thrown out by the simulation reality. During the first few episodes characters would constantly say they "Can't go back" and are anxious at the thought of returning. This built up tension and questions about the characters past and what is happening at the place they departed. None of that matters now because none of it was real in the first place. Finally, the show isn't even a psychological thriller anymore. Every bizarre event or mind-bending situation is explained with "Their in a computer simulation." The characters keep talking about how "this isn't real," and referred to the fact that the world around them was affected by the limitations of their mind. That's super interesting. Turns out that wasn't true either because again, the whole thing is just a simulation made by a computer. It feels like a cop-out for what could be a genuinely interesting psychological thriller.
      Another potentially interesting plot point was the man watching them on the cameras. The show built up the idea that he was the puppet master. He also said in a later episode that "This always ends the same, because they always make the same mistakes." This implied that the loop the characters were stuck in was directly caused by their actions, like some sort of purgatory. This was also really cool, until it was revealed that he was also just stuck in the simulation, contradicting everything built up to that point (and not in a subversive way, rather in a way that just doesn't make sense).
      I didn't mean to make this comment this long, sorry for text wall. Honestly I would be interested to see where they go with it, but the reality of the simulation feels like a cheap way of explaining the plot. It feels like the writers wrote themselves into a corner, accidentally undermining what they had already established. I loved the show and like you I think Netflix shouldn't have canceled it. I'm sure the story would have moved along just fine and maybe have recaptured my attention in some way, and I also believe they would have made it make sense. My point is all the reasons I loved the show in the first place have effectively been written out by the ending. I just don't see how it could come back from that, because fundamentally it's not even "1899" anymore.
      Had to vent that because it's been on my mind, this isn't meant to be combative to your point because I do agree. Thanks for reading.

It's really lovely and has just been greenlit for 5 more seasons :) Would highly recommend if you like Brett.
