Such a sad little documentary showing a guy who couldn't have been more blatant about crying for help and drowning in his demons and everyone around him just letting him deteriorate. Glad he survived.
I admit at the time watching it I was one of those people, "Ah shit yeah I wanna party with D!" After the fact though, you are right, between this and the actual music it seems obvious.
Deryck, literally the entire documentary: Come hang out with me, come take care of me, come help me make this, come watch my back and drag me out of depression and alcoholism Asher: Yeah I think Deryck realized he didn't need anyone else and he could get this done on his own
Man this is an interesting and kind of sad watch. Knowing what deryck was going thru, how he was handling things, and then seeing all the friends (who were potentially the ones he sang about in death of crows) partying with him was a lot to take in. Regarding the album itself, yeah it was all over the place but it honestly worked because it represented his unstable mental state.
I still have a $10 bill signed by Bizzy D and Steve-O from 2001. I was 13 then and now I am 37. I vividly remember that night, It was my first concert and Sum-41 are one of the reasons why I stuck with guitar.
Screaming bloody murder is my favourite Sum 41 album.....yet it’s also the record that broke Deryck. Listening to those songs again now that Sum are back...you do get the sense that he was at breaking point
i have not been lucky enough to get the book, here in south america it is almost impossible to get it. may i ask you what is the relation of this video with the book please?
I was in school with Jason Donaghy in the late 90s in Dublin. Always wondered whatever had happened to him. Never guessed that he'd be sound engineer on an album of one of my favourite bands. Hope he's well.
Coming from a recovering alcoholic, you don't get hangovers if you just start drinking as soon as you wake up. And by the time you eventually have to stop drinking, withdrawals and the DTs (or in Deryck's case, liver failure) will distract you from any hangover symptoms you experience. 😂 But seriously, alcohol is one of the worst things to be addicted to, kids should really be taught about this stuff before they get to the age where they start experimenting with booze.
still one of my favorite records to dat I still listen to it a lot. It's also 10 years old. I was just 20 when this came out. I grew up on thme when I was in 8th grade and chuck was my favorite album back then. I also have all their cd's including their new one order in decline. I saw them in 2019 and they were my favorite band live.
Notice how so many people refer to this album as a record but this is the only album not on a vinyl? Fingers crossed for March 2021 SBM vinyl for the ten year anniversarry! Anyways, this is the one album I have put off listening to by sum 41 for literally years. I think it mostly had to do with the fact that Dave wasn't on it, and he's one of my favorite guitarists. But sum 41 has saved my life more than once, but a really big part of that was from 13 Voices. This is a solid album, it's really fucking good, and what followed the making of this album really sucked. I mean we're all glad Dyreck was able to pull through, but just the fact that you can tell who the fake people are in this video kind of breaks my heart, but it also lead to the songs on 13 Voices that I really related to when it came out. I'm not sure what Steveo is doing now, hopefully he's alrilght, but the rest of the band seems to be in great shape theese days. Tom and Zummo seem to really fit with the band and after seeing them live twice in 2019, you can definetly tell that there is chemistry. They're a family and I'm really glad that they enjoy making music and they're in a place where everything is genuine, including the crew and people who have helped make 13 voies and order in decline. After watching some interviews, it seems like Dyreck was a little bit scared because he wasn't sure how we (the fans) would react to what happened, but I really hope he knows we have his back. Long live the sums!
2:37 "I have to say that my faith in rock n roll has been completely restored after what I saw on this record." Can anyone tell whose voice that is? It sounds like Dave to me but I'm probably wrong
This what rock is missing that's why there hasn't been a huge new rock band in a decade there a couple that do all right but never get past a certain point the main ingredient here is simply fun
After watching the first 25 minutes of this, my only thought was: WE GET IT! You all are badasses cause you can drink tons of Jack Daniels out of the bottle and won't shut up about it, Jeez! Good album though.
@@simonorwell if I were to compare deryck and his band and friends against my life at times, I'd be the "deryck" in the situation. For sure. All of this makes a lot more sense after his book. He was suffering in silence.
Very true. You can hear it in Derycks voice when he speaks.
Great point. His book was rough to go through (in a good way). Felt like I was going through rock bottom with him.
