Survivor. Trapped inside my home at 2623 Tamarind Rd. for the duration. Flood water almost up to my neck for hours, flipping the piano, refrigerator, everything over into it. Muck and septic stench overwhelming. Sheet metal ripped off the roof. Rescued on the fourth day. Overwhelmed, but blessed to have survived this horrifying ordeal.

So glad u made it out after that incredible experience! I know where Tamarind is; the surge originally predicted for Tampa area is what Sanibel got, & caused so so much damage. It breaks my heart to see all of the destruction to Sanibel. It’s ironic that the first thing I see is the Island Inn. We were there in late August. I’ve always described it as a place of joy and peace, a place to let go of worries and stress. I will cherish the memories and hopefully one day have the opportunity to return. As I watch the video I pray for all of those affected by hurricane Ian. May God give you strength and courage in the months ahead.

When you see that it's just one big ancient sand bar you really wonder why people would build there. Then when you see how spectacularly beautiful and unique and how far away the gulf is from so much of the homes (100/200 feet at places) you can absolutely understand why there is so much real estate there. A 15 foot wall of water and 150 MPH winds just randomly showing up and then totally disappearing is one of the strangest, weirdest, meanest things that probably anyone could imagine. With Katrina, it almost made sense because so much was built BELOW sea level. Flooding was almost inevitable. With this, its just unbelievable. Re-build? Then another devastating hurricane in 2023? So sad.

Thank you so much for sharing this footage. You showed both Island Inn and Song of The Sea, two resorts that we have stayed every February for the past 12 years...six times at each. We are booked for February 2023 at Island Inn, which obviously isn't going to happen. We are heartbroken to see the destruction as we have so many great memories of the Island. There is no where else on earth like Sanibel/Captiva and Pine Island. I'm sure that in time, it'll rebuild and better than ever but much of the ambiance is destroyed forever. I could cry just thinking about all of the wonderful people on the staffs of those two resorts and how thoughtful, helpful, cheerful and hard working they all are. We pray that the anguish this has caused all of them can be repaired and replaced with better opportunities. Same goes for the wonderful business owners and restaurant workers and staff. So many wonderful people have had their lives changed for good. Our hearts go out to the residents, particularly those who chose to stay because the information they were given was misleading. Many were just too confident that all would be well, having been veterans of many other storms. This one though will go in the history books. I pray to God this never happens again. Be safe and be well Sanibel. We will be back to support you as soon as you reopen to visitors! Love you all!

"Mother Nature" isn't cruel; stuff just happens. Stop ascribing "will" to "Mother Nature"; that's just stupid anthropomorphism.

@@jbyoung7397 I've walked the private beaches on Captive - but below the high tide line. It is spooky to be alone on a pristine beach. A few feet away it belongs to people who will lie and claim you came on "their property" just to get you trespassed off the entire Captiva "island" which we now know is nothing but a sandbar poking a few feet above high tide. I loved my three week-long vacations living in a rented house on the back bay of Sanibel, but Captiva is the essence of arrogant wealth.
The colonist-settlers from Europe didn't believe the indigenous people living here when they arrived had any property rights because the natives believed the land belong to everyone, not one or two or a hundred people.

"How about letting this Barrier Island go back to NATURE????? " Man belongs to the EARTH. EARTH does NOT BELONG TO MAN"! Chief Seattle! Maryland has a Barrier Island too! Assateague Island Maryland State Seashore and National Park. Assateague Island was formed by a hurricane in the 1930's! Maryland dies not allow any DEVELOPMENT on our beautiful Barrier Island! Only camping is permitted. One summer, our family had to evacuate that Island because of Hurricane Belle! We came back the very next day and had beautiful weather the rest of the week! Assateague Island is also the home of the famous Chincoteague Island wild ponies! Anyone remember reading Misty of Chincoteague as a child? 🌊💙🐬🌊🏖️🌅⛱️🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

In 2012, both,DeSantis and Rubio voted against FEMA Relief for those suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
DeSantis and Rubio pride themselves for their love of playing hardball; okay, let's play hardball.
The Senators from New York and New Jersey should block all FEMA Relief to Florida.
    Fair is fair.

I am going to show DeSantis how well he taught me this word and put it to good use in these types of situations.
Not one dime for Florida FEMA Relief.
