  • In today’s walk, I set out to tick a few more tors off of my list, heading south from the Pork Hill Car Park in the Merrivale area of Dartmoor.
Tors (and rocks) visited in this video:
    Prowytown Rocks
    Feather Tor
    Pew Tor
    Sampford Tor
    Heckwood Tor
    Barnhill Rocks
I also find a stone cross from the 16th century! Windy Post Cross.
If hiking on Dartmoor with the stunning scenerey that this place provides interests you, then please consider subscribing! I aim to post a new video every week!
As always, thank you very much for watching, and I hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it!

The moor(s) : I will always associate the name with Sherlock Holmes. This area has its own beauty. Wide open space, nice rock outcrops, and a big green meal tray for the ponies (Shetland?) .
I live in central Arizona so this is a bit different than what I call home. Keep up the videos & good hiking to you.

It’s a truly stunning landscape! As you say, very different to Arizona (I think it rained at least once a day here for the first 4 months of this year) 😅
The ponies are Dartmoor ponies, native to the moor, a very hardy breed, and they have to be to live up here!
Thank you very much for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

    Great vid👍
Not sure there's a pitch late leave early bylaw on Dartmoor but other than that, spot on advice.
Interestingly, pew tor, barn Hill & Whitchurch Common have just been re included in the camping map despite being immediate to pork hill car park.
I'm all for opening up the Moor but that close to a major car park seems an odd decision.

yeah they are trying to not have camping near some car parks some they don’t just turn up with everything the car park is very near pew tor but doesn’t seem to have that problem at the moment

Cracking video Dave! Completely agree with you on those "wild" campers, no need to set up that early. Keep the content coming 🤙🏼

What time does the dnpa tell you to put your tent up?
I'll usually set up around mid afternoon & be gone around 8am,
Pretty sure there's no set times??

@@Mrsmith74 You're right, there's no time limits. I guess it's just common sense. If you're pitching up on a popular Tor mid day then it might not be very considerate of other hikers. BUT if you're pitching up somewhere out of the way, it's not much of an issue. I aim to pitch up 2-3 hours before it gets dark and leave first thing in the morning.

@Summit_Seekers00 I don't really see how it would inconvenience any other hikers unless you're on a footpath.
I've never had an issue legally "wild" camping on Dartmoor.
I only adopt the set up late, pack up early method if camping elsewhere.

I think I read vixen tor is open access but the owners of the surrounding land prevents public access,
Citing concerns for the public climbing on the rocks🤔
