Ajakx was hilarious. Just spent the entire episode shit talking and alpha dogging Beebs and then then asked him "wanna be a slave lmao". Absolute big fat bastard energy.
Obviously, Walrinians are based on Walrusses, who, too, depend on their tusks for intimidation and/or fighting, which can end up very bloody. Yet this guy hides his obvious savagery behind fancy words, 'good manners', and an elitist stand. The irony is well-written
Yeah... Walruses and others like Elephant Seals are all about size equals strength and dominance which is another reason why he snapped when Beebs struck em
This guys is such a departure from the scifi norm of "The Big Strong" alien race. Usually you have guys like the Krogan or Klingons, with cultures ranging from honorable warrior to soccer hooligan. Having the berserker brawler race that everyone is scared of also being a bunch of posh elitists is such a fresh idea.
1:00 I just realized Beebs’ tusks are cut off at the ends when he smiles awkwardly, given his reactions and reluctance to be associated with Walrinians, I imagined he cut them off himself in the past to further distance himself and to avoid any social stigmas in the galaxy.
I always appreciate the way this guy goes from cold slimy manipulator to horrifying beast in such a quick matter. I love antagonists that can pull that off.
Honestly, Im both disapointed, and pleased with him. At first I assumed he will play bigger role, but then just turned into a fragile manbaby, who gets shit pushed in and deservingly. On the other hand, I am glad he wasnt an untouchable asshat, and that he got his commeupance in the episode he appeared in, and I did like how the writers explained more about the Walrinians, beebs and how well it tied in, in fact, now I wonder what kind of society Walrinians are, and how does it connect to Beebs's mother. Hell, if he gets a more prevalent lore later on, Ill be glad to see the other tooth fall off, though im currently excited for J.B. more, he was funny as hell with Sanchez
about walrinian society, sounds to me like its a bunch of noble houses that take a LOT of pride in their genetics and how strong their bodies are. And seeing the reaction of people around Beebs when they realise he's walrinian, that guy is the norm for their specie, NOT the exception. And considering it still took Kara, THE top assassin of the setting pinballing him around the room and tht he was still conscious after that, one can see why Walrinians are feared, they become living bulldozers when pissed off, and with how full of themselves they are, pissing them off might be awfuly easy
@thorveim1174 Considering our only refference is atm Ajax and Beebs, we might not know. For all we can say, they may be a militant bunch, or honor society lead warriors, with Ajax being also an exception.
@@thorveim1174 reminds me of the Klingons. And probably bet he's going to have a bigger roles coming again, how many enemies striker in beebs are pulling up, that's gonna be one heck of a battle.
In other media. I've seen the concept that "big strong" = "stricter society with more rules" in order to keep the peace better. This ep makes it clear that going red eye is a Walrinian trait and not a Ajax one. So what are the Ajax traits? Well, worth noting that until Beebs stops playing "the game" he keeps his cool well enough. That he attacks through their societal rules to force Beebs to listen to him talk shit in an indirect way. It's when Beebs leaves "without permission" that he starts losing his cool and then when he's "hit". Ignoring Walrinian societal rules seems to be what puts him in full rage mode.
We saw Beebs’ eyes turn red a few times throughout the episode…I wonder if we will ever see him go berserk like Ajax did?? And with him being so calm all the time, I do wonder what would finally push him over the edge.
Perhaps after he and Shrike make up someone hurts Shrike really bad? If Beebs thinks his friend is dead, then I can see him going into the Walrinian rage-mode at whoever hurt Shrike.
I really like the details of his pink eyes. Unlike Beebs who's eyes are clear, it seems like this guy is always on the verge of going berserk. Goes to show just how surface his 'civilized' act is.
I kind of wonder what will happen to him now that he’s missing a tusk. Will he end up getting disowned by his family and be given a slice of humble pie?
I HAVE A THEORY! 1. Beeb cut his own tusks off so he can disconnect himself off from his past 2. Beeb's tusks were cut off by Walrinians because he brought shame or done a crime that lead to his tusks to be cut off 3. He got into a accident/fight with someone or thing (which also lead to him losing his arm as well as both of his legs to be amputated) and his tusks were also collateral damage.
Honestly, I always thought that he was from the human race, his morphology is quite similar, just a little bigger and fatter. If it weren't for this episode that has a clear foreshadowing I wouldn't have noticed.
on the other hand Beebs did seem pretty flippant about terrans, you'd think if his mum was a terran he wouldn't be so quick to remind Shrike of their reputation
Maybe or maybe he is the result of an affair. But his mother may not be a Walrinian. Making him a half breed. But to be passed off as a full blood since his house seems to be a highly noble one.

RIGHT?! That's what I love about creative writers and artists who can think outside of the box
@riverbandit2138 I do too. Of course it isn't as easy as flipping s stereotype. It all in the execution and Ajax nailed.
and it works because those races are typically based around pride as a trigger for their violence.
here that pride comes from elitist entitlement.
