- Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders visit the BFI Southbank to talk about their work on The Comic Strip alongside the show's creator Peter Richardson.
Broadcast in 1990, The Comic Strip Presents ... GLC: The Carnage Continues is one of a pair of award-winning satires that asks how Hollywood might have approached recent events in British political history.
It parodies the events of the 1980s takeover of the Greater London Council by Ken Livingstone, framing it as an ultra-violent action movie in which Robbie Coltrane plays Charles Bronson playing Ken Livingston, while French plays Cher playing Joan Ruddock.

I love Jennifer’s whole attitude - she always has this knowing smile and delivers everything in such a laid back way, she’s just … cool!
Peter is 72, Dawn is 66 , Jennifer 65 now .What a great bunch they were. Sad that Rik passed. Remember A fistful of travellers checks ? Adrian and Nigel.
the second I saw Dawn smile I was smiling with her, and Jen - just adore them both, always have
I simply love how honest and blunt Jennifer is .. icons ❤
My whole childhood was these two woman and Roseanne and My sweet late mother loved these two. She watched everything and anything that had these two lovely ladies involved and I love seeing them. My late mother literally had the same bday has Jennifer Saunders except year being 61 instead of 58 and I wish My mom could still be with us too.
“Mr Jolly lives next door” was always my favourite, Rik was a great comedy actor and taken from us far too soon…
French and Saunders on The Comic Strip Presents ... GLC: The Carnage Continues | BFI Q&A 2326pm 31.5.23 mr jolly lives next door? does he...? if he has moved in next door he's altered somewhat... i think olde peter cook was in that... p.s i have a prowler... i had a recce with my torch... i think he should be arrested.
Dirty Movie was great too
Such a great collection of talent, the comic strip. For me , Bad News, Fistfull of travellers cheques, 5 go mad etc were all a major part of my comedy youth, alongside Laurel & Hardy, some mothers do ave em, and so many more during the mid 70’s through to the late &0’s ….i still quote lines from Bad News repertoire and fistfull ……absolute gold
National treasures they are, love them!
In the 80's I watched Comic Strip , in a very drunken state , and thereafter wasn't entirely certain that I'd actually seen and loved it .
Any chance putting the rest of the Comic Strip stuff up as well? Would love it.
Come back 11am tomorrow ... ;)
It took me a long time before I picked up on how twisted Dawn is - humor-wise I mean. She seems quite sweet but underneath there's a twisted comic genius. Then with Jennifer - she's pretty twisted too. It really is great that they were part of the Comic Strip as so many comedy troupes or whatever a literally all men. Yeah it's funny when Python dress as woman for a skit but frankly I think it's usually funnier when they just had Carol Cleveland do the role instead. And Dawn and Jennifer really saved the CS from that I think but again, they were just so twisted and fit in so well with these twisted guys it was like fated.
Yay, what a great surprise to see the gang back together, The Comic Strip comedy etc is great
Amazing to see them together again
Comic strip was awesome, so funny when they did the famous 5
Fucking Love these two women and their comedy. I was lucky enough to have a video shop down the street that went to england and found these amazing fucking women and i think it was like 1995
I must add it was San Francisco in the 90s.
Agree no two women on the planet are funnier than them😎
Mr Jolly was fucking genius. “We’re gonna take Nicholas Parsons out!”
The Good Times Sound Like This!
bad news
for you and you and you and yoooou
French and Saunders on The Comic Strip Presents ... GLC: The Carnage Continues | BFI Q&A 2328pm 31.8.23 i enjoyed these two - whether starring in the obligatory young ones or comic strip presents.... me and some school chump enjoyed perter richardson - especially in fistful of travellers... he's lookin' a tad worse for wear now. as we all are, i suppose... p.s those two old blokes they used t' play in their French and Saunders show seems to have touched a nerve - which i find totally hilarious... wherein they perv over scantily clad ladies and try to fuck the telly and the sideboard etc as they're whipped into a fat lard arsed can't get a bird for love nor money frenzy... hahahahah you should have shown that skit... is there more t' this interview? - as i, for one, think you have chosen 3 decent characters up for questioning for a change...
Never thought much of them..they reminded me of a sixth form girls school Xmas presentation ..however I do wish them well in their careers
I mis-read your comment. I thought the last bit was "I wish them well with their carers". Thanks for that. It made me laugh.
I’m glad Dawn sorted her Barnet out - that lesbian mohawk did absolutely nothing for her
I remember them on the Tube .... never made me laugh then or since
Yeah. Right. Funny guy…
I think Jennifer wrote The Slags, didn't she? If you watch The Slags and don't laugh you're probably just a moron.
they've never heard of you
Beware the wrath of the nameless moaner.
& yet here you are...40 years later...on a little YT video about them moaning away...who'd thought....?!? 🙄🙄🙄
God they look so old now. Scary!
For your sake I hope you will age well. You don´t want to be scared of the mirror.
They are both in their 60s now
we're talking 40 years ago - are you actually surprised?
@@mildredhighcock7333 Not really , it's just sad to see people you watched as a kid wither. It happens to us all, but with celebs, I dunno its just a shock.
