  • Hey everybody! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with Chord Tricks. This lesson features an assortment of unusual/inspiring ways of playing chords on the guitar, and many of these outside-the-box ideas may inspire you to write some new riffs of your own or dig deeper into the overall subject of coming up with radically different ways to perform chords on the guitar.
The ideas shared here include timeless "chord tricks" such as adding vibrato to chords, smearing chords with the tremolo bar, adding volume swells to chords, shimmering chord-based pick tapping, the "spider chord" concept, chordal tapping ideas, implied chords using harmonics, fretting with the frethand thumb, the elusive cascading harmonic approach, an intense chord-based exercise, and much more!
The ideas shared here came from an assortment of legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Pass, Steve Vai, Chet Atkins, Joe Satriani, Lenny Breau, Andy Timmons, Tony Iommi, Tuck Andress, Dave Mustaine, and several others!
Needless to say, if you've been searching for some new ways to perform chords on the guitar, are interested in learning a handful of useful ideas that came directly from a number of guitar legends, or maybe you're just curious about this topic in general - this episode is totally for you! play the harmonic on high e 12th. now harmonic on g string 7th fret next b string 12th then 4th string 7th fret then g string 12th fret then a string 7th fret then d string 12th fret and last low e string 7th fret harmonic. see the pattern? sounds nifty played forward and backwards once at a moderate tempo. the real trick is to not deaden many if any strings while you hit the next string for a harp effect i guess
