Brutus is such a busy boy. I would always go with rain catchment and attack it to the shelter so it moves with it. It will reduce your time in the long run
@@derekbarratt defeats one of the points of doing so. Having rain catchment on two of the corners balances the weight, also reduces the size of just one. There are many ways one could create a system that can is part of the shelter.
Had all that on the pasture pig mobile he built on the original property. Built on a solid chassis. Not sure why it wouldn't work just as a hang out for th other pigs. Can't it be trailered to the new place?🤔🤷

You should put a rain collection system on Yukon's Palace and have it go into a water barrel for him. The excess should flow out when the barrel is full

100% agree water catchment system with platform for water reservoir. Maybe even bolt some wheels to make moving the whole structure easier, or even add some metal skids to protect the wooden skids.
I would do the water-catching system. You should be thankful for all that rain. It is so much better than having a drought. Your pasture grass benefits from making it grow solid for years.
Yes catch rainwater ! I think I would build a separate sled for the rain barrel to sit on and attach it to. Moving a full 55 gallon drum attached to the shed is just asking for trouble. You could even put it on a strong pallet and move it with your tractor forks. Just make sure your downspout is a bendable one like a piece of black corrugated drain pipe that is easily put into and taken out of the drum.

Al, you've got quite good at building frames for buildings. Don't you think you could progress to building so that your timber takes the weight rather than. the fastenings ? Like perhaps notching out your posts so the ring beam transfers weight directly on to the post. Then you can put your braces under the beam (you can let them in a half inch to nothing) You can gang cut most of this for speed, and for strength try using bolts and bolt plates.
Sometimes I would swear Brutus is part cat given his talent for getting underfoot. I think he was hanging out in the pigmobile to be closer to Al. I’m more than a little surprised that you haven’t had a rainwater collection system already on this property. The barn is almost built for one, too. It’s definitely a good idea for the new pig enclosure. Gina, that butter looks awesome. You’re making me hungry for a nice warm piece of cornbread to cut in half longways and slather the butter onto!

The only thing I might have done differently would be to have left those bolts he cut off a little longer and then used a hammer to mushroom out the end to make sure the nuts don't work themselves loose when the unit is dragged about. Or peened the threads with a center punch to keep the nuts tight. But you're right... typical Al overbuild! Nice and strong!
We did the water catchment on our chicken coop and it was wonderful like you did your New Yolk City. I would do it. Add those gutters! You know you will later anyway

Great little shelter! I suspended a poly 30 gal tank from the rafters in my hog pen, and plumbed it with rain catchment and a PVC line ran down a support for a hog nipple. Works like a charm. Drag it around without catching on anything, and original footprint. Gina, loving the homemade butter in the food processor idea.😊 Love ya'll ❤️

Good Morning! I built a front porch/loading dock out of pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine. It can be heavy from the store because it's still wet. When it dries out, it gets a lot lighter.

@@StoneKathryn you can make a form of buttermilk by adding 1 Tbsp of vinegar to a cup of whole milk. Let it sit till it is the consistency that you like to use. Yes can always get buttermilk down here cause they know don't mess with Southern folks. 😉

anything to make it easier to do chores with the animals will help. So adding the bracket to the pen for water would save you some time and energy

Al will split down middle then slide 4" PVC pipe to be his gutter system, downspout from there, just like New Yolk City !

Great little shelter! I suspended a poly 30 gal tank from the rafters in my hog pen, and plumbed it with rain catchment and a PVC line ran down a support for a hog nipple. Works like a charm. Drag it around without catching on anything, and original footprint. Gina, loving the homemade butter in the food processor idea.😊 Love ya'll ❤️

Good Morning! I built a front porch/loading dock out of pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine. It can be heavy from the store because it's still wet. When it dries out, it gets a lot lighter.

yellow pine is structrual lumber like douglas fir on the west coast!! make your own lumber for the projects with your new saw mill!!say this was made from lumber from our property nice to hear??? gina that butter looks to good i remember as a young person visiting my family that lived in the country and they would have home churned butter that was so good on a hot biscuit wow fond memories!!

@@StoneKathryn you can make a form of buttermilk by adding 1 Tbsp of vinegar to a cup of whole milk. Let it sit till it is the consistency that you like to use. Yes can always get buttermilk down here cause they know don't mess with Southern folks. 😉
