    Watching your narrowboat videos were a much needed escape for me back when I was grieving the loss of my dad and my best friend who both passed within a couple of months of each other back in 2017. Soon after their deaths my mom's health declined and I became a full time live-in caregiver for her, only getting out of the house for doctor visits and grocery shopping. I was stuck in one place but through your videos I got to travel, thank you!

    Nice to have you back and ready for action Kevin!
    The past two Covid years have turned everyone's life upside down.
    Depression leading to lack of interest, lack of motivation, loss of friends from distance or death and so many other situations has affected us all. It's time to get out of the rut and have fun while exploring new places, meeting new people, boldly going where we haven't gone before. And you get to make videos of your voyages for us to travel along with you. Thanks mate!

    Hi Kevin, this is my first post, but I’ve been following you since I stumbled upon the series on Amazon years ago. I wanted to say that I recognize the difficulties that this world presents in living ones values, and am happy for you that you have decided again to de-materialize and focus mainly on sailing Aslan. What drew me most to your work was the sincerity with which you approached the discovery of learning how to navigate by narrow boat, and the commitment you have to a rich yet simple daily life. Put another way, you have somehow managed to produce content that runs completely counter to the most gratuitously commercial and hollow platforms that hosts it. Rather than the escapist trap that social media has become, watching and listening to you chug chug through the canals has served mostly as a reminder that to live fully and deeply requires very little materially. Instead, being curious and true to oneself (which is a form of calm bravery in these highly distracting days) seems to be rewarding and a good foundation for generosity. I have no way of knowing if your success has made you vain or tickles your ego, but my guess is that isn’t the case, and rather you have opened your life through these short videos because you like to share what you enjoy with other fellow travelers. And for that I sincerely thank you and offer you a ‘bravo’ for selling the Harley and turning away from the shrill acquisitive sirens that beckon from every direction.

    • @CountryHouseGent
      @CountryHouseGent  3 года назад +4

      Hello Brian and thank you for watching. You're quite correct. Buying Aslan and disposing (almost) of all material items was easily the best choice I ever made. Keeping few personal belongings was also essential, as Aslan isn't the most spacious boat and of course, I needed to get as much 'cash' behind me as possible for the unknown up ahead. The success of the series and content here on RUclips, has been as much a suprise to me as anyone else - as you say, maybe it's the polar opposite nature of the content, compared to what's typically available and goes against how modern society operates and what it mostly values - plus I record and publish what I see and what I find pleasing, amusing or entertaining. As for 'Fame' (an uncomfortable 'badge' for me), it's what it is but not something I strive for. On the whole, being recognised in the most random places and situations is enjoyable. People appreciate what I do and like to tell me why - many have been personally elevated or helped by it, which is a huge reward for me. Cheers again and best wishes,

    I first discovered narrow boating because of travels by narrowboat because of a sleepless night sometime before the pandemic. Thought that it looked like the type of show that might out me to sleep nut I was entranced by it all and it definitely did not put me to sleep. Since then I've watched countless other channels about narrow boating but always feel like your content is the best. So I look forward to more narrow boat videos from you! Am in similar situation, Kevin! I have a 32’ Motorhome in which I have been traveling maybe 3 months a year. I have a cabin in the mountains where I live when not on the road being a Rockhound or visiting my Sons . In 65,000 miles I have had to replace the clutch in my toad vehicle, twice. Toyota now tells me it’s due to towing. The RV is winterized, and parked down the hill from my house, but I am yet to solve the towing issue. I have had several motorbikes, but am a tad old to be horsing one on and off a carrier. Same with getting a dolly for the car. I love traveling and last summer spent time on the Great Lakes hunting Yooperlites, fluorescent minerals that glow like charcoal, alone in the dark of night. I am at the fork in the road, and believe the solution will come to me. Glad you chose the Narrow Boat lifestyle for yourself, and will continue to enjoy your adventures! Best wishes!

      Thx, Kevin! Isn’t it funny how we procrastinate and then when we finally must do something, it was so easy, we can’t believe it seemed so difficult! Lol! Oh, as a bartender, in my younger days, I have seen lots of drinkers! Those who have decided to give it up, can’t understand how some of us can have one drink, and stop. They know they are unable to function that way! Trying to convince others to follow their path is virtu signaling but probably with the best intentions! ;)

Thanks for all that you put into these videos! It can't be easy setting up all those shots and navigating a canal system solo. You definitely know how to record, edit and tell a story. I did enjoy the bike and camping videos as they showed off a broader range of interests you have. But I am looking forward to more seasons of documenting canal life from your unique and beguiling perspective.

    So happy to hear from you again, Kevin, and pleased that you are going to carry on cruising (hey, that sounds like a good film title, eh, what?). I thoroughly enjoy your videos and your content. Thanks, and happy cruising! I see Jo and Michael on Perseverance just recently completed their 2,000 mile journey; it took them a mere four years :-)

    Greetings from Florida. Although Travels by Motorbike would have been interesting, seeing the countryside, villages, people and all that, I'm thrilled it's Narrowboat. I'm on my third time watching the entire series, (which I purchased) on Amazon and am now looking forward to the next season with Aslan and all the fun it brings.

    Nice to see you. You were my first narrowboater (god, that does sound right). Discovered you on Amazon summer of 2019 while recovering from a hip replacement. Nowadays I follow, not only you, but a whole host of narrowboaters. Never hear of narrowboating prior. Keep up the vloging (now that's another word I never heard of, spell check kept wanting to change to ogling).

    So looking forward to your adventures on the canals. I ran across your videos at a time when I was totally laid up, and they brought a very bright light to my days. You have a creative way to meld the beauty of the canals and the English countryside with your clever wit and some life lessons. Oh, and some great cooking as well. Good on you, sir!

      Many thanks Nicholas. In fact I've begun binge watching TBN myself, which is a suprisingly weird and uncomfortable thing to do from my point of view. It's incredible how much I've forgotten from it, but it was apparent quite quickly where my heart truly lays. All the best,

    Found you on Amazon quite awhile ago well before the pandemic I think you made a good decision to go back to the narrowboat . These entire past two years have shown me that some people try to do the most to help others while some think its all about them personally. Time for all of us to move forward and a little more kindness can only help. Bon Voyage
