      You don't climb on the stage and then just start playing after 20 years. You rehearse before such an event. They sound like they not only never rehearsed, but also as if they did not play at all for years, at least two of them. That bass and the drums are horrible.

    It was unfortunate, but at this time they still disliked lead singer David Bryne because at the end he had insisted on taking all the credit and the other three resented him for that. They barely got along with him in this last performance at the Hall of Fame in 2002. Fortunately, he got over this condition and when the movie they did was recreated for release in 2023, they actually get along now. It was nice to see them together both on CBS and then Steven Colbert and they were actually getting along much better than they were at this rewards ceremony. I think they sound pretty good considering the long time apart they spent before this one-off performance which they obviously practiced some for.

      Unlike, perhaps, some other bands where the lead person isn't as much without the band, Fogerty (John) WAS CCR. He wrote the songs, arranged the songs, largely produced the songs, sang the songs, and played the lead guitar in what was essentially a riff based band. And the rest of the band BITCHED AND MOANED, so he said "fine, we'll run this like a one-quarter each partnership", and when each guy was as fully responsible, top to bottom. one fourth of the album was up to snuff while three fourths was dreadful. AND THEY STILL BITCHED AND MOANED that HE should do all the work but the rewards should still be shared equally. SOMETIMES the lead person IS the band, and Fogerty is one instance. I'll concede Clifford had some crisp drumming in CCR's heyday, but it certainly wasn't a focal point that couldn't be done without, and the other two were placeholders that anyone could have filled. So if I was Fogerty, and I was put through what the others put him through, I'd have washed my hands for good too.

    David Byrne is amazing. Talking Heads were amazing. While a reunion would be great, its not necessarily needed. David's Everything That Happens Happens Today album with Brian Eno was amazing. And his new album Love this Giant with St. Vincent is great.

      +Joseph Scott: I concur...been following this group for a long time and Jerry has never struck me as being egotistical with the exception of ONE interview I saw him do with Tina & Chris (it's probably on RUclips). David has enormous talent and the personality of a goat. His ego is so big that when he's on the freeway he needs a WIDE LOAD sign and a police escort. But I guess when you are that good you're allowed some ego. Don't know about Tina. I personally believe David tried to keep her in the background. In all of the live performance videos of Talking Heads I've seen, I've never seen one where Tina looked excited or happy. But look at her Tom Tom Club performances and she's smiling and bubbly and shaking that great ass of hers.

      Threat_Dynamics Keep in mind that Talking Heads was David Byrne's art. He more or less wrote the music, all the lyrics and sang every song. He brought in all the other musicians when he saw the limitations of his bandmates. He never held Tina back, she never would have been without him. Tom Tom was a cute project, but slight in comparison to Byrne's efforts. Like any great artist, Byrne was finished with THs by 1990, and he moved on to other projects. This is the reason for all the bitterness towards him.

    • @Chasstful
      @Chasstful 9 лет назад +28

      TallTyrionLannister David and Tina's feud happened because he left the band unceremoniously and moved onto other projects. He felt he was finished with THs artistically, they had done every thing they could, and the music was growing stale. She had other ideas. Keep in mind that Byrne pretty much was THs, without him they were shrunken heads.

    Seems like Chris just loves to play... He's always wearing in a big smile in any video I've seen of them. Good for him. After all it's "PLAYING music" not "WORKING music". I'm glad he and Tina had such success with Tom Tom Club. I think at the time, their album had sold more than the ENTIRE TH catalog up to that point -- I'm sure that pissed off David to no end. Just a few weeks ago, I heard some baller in his fancy ride blasting "Genius of Love" as he cruised down the street.

    Jesus, David just doesn't want to be there. The first line is him seemingly going 'shit I'm actually doing this'. Can see they've argued, can't look to his left or right. Just tunnel vision and he's got his back to everyone. Can see the tension between him and Jerry until they focus. Shame, but a shambles, though much tighter towards the end once David let Jerry check his fretboard. "We are vain & we are blind, I hate people when they're not polite", said with such vigour, and it's shows David, it really does.
