All around complicated situation; however, the University is trying to discredit Mackenzie in order to eliminate her as a witness in another lawsuit…Even dirtbags lurk in higher education.
I'm glad people are recognizing this, it's so insane how easy it is for someone reputation to be crushed. I'd never think anything was wrong with this news story if I didn't know better
Mackenzie’s charges against her mother being dropped DO NOT MEAN HER MOM WAS INNOCENT. I find it distressing that the journalists assume that this means Mackenzie wasn’t abused.
Seems like a person with zero morals and a schemer...would have zero problem lying to authorities... obviously the mother gave her the heave-ho...tried of her BS... future travelling grifter van resident...
Exactly. Nobody stays in foster care unless they were very certain there was abuse. The mom was a doctor, which lends her more credibility than say, your local drug addict. It makes me mad that they are dismissing that incident as if because she lied about this, she obviously lied about everything else she said for her whole life. What person, who likely had every opportunity and a wealthy family, would do something like this unless there is some serious trauma there. Narcissistic mother? The child who was pushed to be an overachiever no matter the cost and needing to always be the best for fear of disappointing parents? I know exactly how that feels, and if it’s bad enough, I can absolutely see someone doing this.
usually when you get caught lying and over-dramatizing stories its common for people to question All your stories. In the eyes of the law she IS innocent, Maybe the police DID their job and checked her story. but i do i agree that the reported had a weird attitude lol she almost acted if this was a murder case.
The abuse part sounds real, they admitted it in this video. How could the mother "accidentally" or "inadvertently" throw her daughter down the stairs? They also charged the mom with three counts of child abuse, and the daughter was in foster care for 1 year, so it appears some form of abuse was going on. As for the other embellishments on her application, why didn't they just do a detailed investigation before awarding her the scholarship in the first place?
The mother was trying to drag the girl out of her house...she was done with a sociopath high schooler trying to run the show...THE CHARGES WERE DROPPED...I suppose you believe the lying scumbag even after she was busted stealing from a MORE DESERVING child...and the University...and now she is suing...has white entitlement psycho Karen holding her dog by the neck screaming to the cops that a black man is trying to kill her written all over it...
@@joemomma170 ??? tf are you even saying man. I'm pretty sure her mom is the real entitlement psycho Karen. look at this comment from above "I went into a rabbit hole on this and learned that this started after Mackenzie was going to be a witness in the wrongful death lawsuit of a Black grad student who died due to poor access to phones and phone service on campus. Mackenzie had a similar medical emergency and was going to testify on the behalf of the deceased student. The college news editor was told to investigate her so they sent a reporter to Missouri. There they talked to her mom who denied the abuse as well as several doctors and locals who backed up the hospital stay and time in foster care. The editor leaked the information to her own husband who is the editor of the Inquirer and he broke the story with information that Mackenzie claims is false and libelous. Including the claim that she grew up poor. She said she is low income due to having no family support system. And that her first gen status was based on the Penn State definition outlined on their website defining it as including students who have limited or no contact with their families, which she does not. There is currently a libel lawsuit against Penn State for this as well as the ongoing wrongful death suit, so there's definitely more to this story than meets the eye. " and this video ruclips.net/video/z83xafelusc/видео.html Honestly, the most disturbing part of this whole ordeal is how easy it is to deliberately misconstrue a story.
@@tongraymondtong6693 her story about her mother beating her on the stairs just doesn't add up. she just happens to wake up the next day, drive to school absolutely fine with no one at school noticing any injuries and then, when she knows she's in front of witnesses, she chooses to "pass out"? and when she gets to the hospital the doctors can't find anything wrong. this is a person who is carefully curating an image to get ahead in life. she's a psychopath and no one should take anything she says at face value.
What do they mean they can't fact check each one? You can't check 32 things? This isn't the entirety of the university population, it's a small scholarship of a measly 32 people. What a joke.
Well said🤨..and 2 your point it show that we are in and environment now ...where ppl have all kinds of excuses..Now they want to blame hEr bcuz others were lazy.
It is a boatload of people who apply for the scholarship so once they narrow it down it would be time consuming to do background checks. I think if a person pursuing higher education, integrity is also a base line presumption. It is a sad day if they are going to be required to do background checks on Rhode scholars
Small scholarship?????? Do you know how hard it is to get this? My acquaintances at a state university in iowa got this scholarship and has higher status now than an average harvard graduate. You or your grandsons will probably never get this scholarship. The admission rate is so low to the point where it is as competitive as being a navy seal. The only thing that maybe as competitive as this would be being a nasa astronaut
As somebody who grew up poor and actually had to sleep in van at parking lot for 6 months with my family I’m baffled. I’ve never been given special treatment for being poor but I am thankful for the government for paying my college for me now I’m about to graduate debt free
Good on you! Congrats! Finally someone who wants to contribute to society instead of living off it. I’m sorry you grew up the way you did but man have you tuned that around and that is not easy. Hell I don’t even know you and I’m proud of you lol.
The strange snarkiness in tone during the description of the private school fees and Mackenzie's general surroundings during her childhood is actually a little sickening to me. Since when do school fees, a tree-lined street, and horseback riding negate child abuse? This isn't journalism at all. It is so irresponsible to broadcast pieces that silence victims from a particular social class. Furthermore, abused children who are estranged from their wealthy families are still *low-income*. At that point, their biological family's wealth has got nothing to do with a student's means to afford college tuition or daily living expenses. No story should ever be published or broadcast on the Fierceton vs Penn matter without mention of the fact that Mackenzie has been a key witness in a wrongful death lawsuit in which the university was the respondent. And no story should be published on this matter without mention of the fact that Mackenzie's circumstances did fall within Penn's own definitions of first-generation and low income. Sincerely yours... a white, middle-class, child abuse survivor.
Well that's pretty traumatic to be sent away for a year in foster care. Don't down play it lady or discredit it. A year in fostercare can get you killed in the wrong hands & family. I was in foster care I should know. Her mother loosing her position and earnings, could be considered steepling down a slippery road finacially. That stress alone can change the whole mood of a family and how and where they live. Just hearing this lady say half truths is repulsive and very judgemental. A child is a child until age of 18, that was her childhood and she wrote about it and rose above. She should win her lawsuit, just from hearing a clip of this!
She lied and said she was from a low income household when she wasn’t. She said she grew up in and out of foster care which is very different from spending just a year in foster care. The POINT is she lied. Stop making excuses for her!
@@tamlynn786 Did you personally read her essay? Easy to come to that conclusion after a bashing of some lady discounting this girl and discrediting her hurts & traumas. Also of a reporter trying to make a good headline ect. Maybe she can have you write an essay of your life and sum it up, only to twist the living shit out of it too! I've lived a lot of life and I assure you that is why this young lady is seeking legal action. She has every right, re-listen to this crap interview. Heresay is just that and not evidence. This young woman being bashed was not there to defend herself on any accusations being said, save it for court. The way this interview conducted was a very limited look into the truth. As someone who grew up poor, was abused, neglected, homeless, and to this day cannot say who my “parent” is and no one would claim to be one-I don’t think the girl was as in the wrong as what y’all are making it out to be. It doesn’t make a damn that her moms charges were dropped-the mere fact that she was in foster care for A YEAR- charges filed, etc-mean there was substantial evidence against the mother. Sure she had money, and could get a good lawyer and likely had standing in the community, but if you think a teen would just up and lie to leave a rich life behind to live in FOSTER CARE- then you clearly are jaded.
Applications that encourage young people to have to vie for the greatest victimhood really need to stop. I realize that they're geared toward opening up opportunities for the less "priveleged" student, but not only does the practice encourage crap like this, it DOESN'T really plumb the student's abilities. None of us can take credit -- good or bad -- for our childhoods, but we ARE responsible for our futures. "Whose got the greatest sob story" is not a good way to embark upon that future.
Victimhood? I don’t think it encourages that in any kind of way. Adversity can be any difficult situation someone has gone through, and by the time they graduate high school, every student has gone through some type of adversity, no matter how great or insignificant. She could have taken literally anything that she found as a difficult situation, whether it be bullies, parent’s divorce, not getting elected for something you campaigned for, adhd, the passing of a family member, etc. There are all types of adversity that people go through, including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and financial difficulties. For these big scholarships, it’s about how eloquently and effectively you can present these adversities and show how you’ve overcome it and experienced growth. The reason behind these essays is for them to also assess character in addition to, rather than solely on abilities, considering everyone going to that school is exceptional in abilities the first place. She lied to make herself sound more resilient, and her true character showed in the end.
They don't have to be victims. They elevate the disadvantaged...and the applicants have to be geniuses. Rachel Maddow attended a run-of-the-mill public high school -- not even a highly-ranked school in the state. Also, none of selection process has to do with you. It's not your decision.
Rhodes scholar application doesn't encourage this. She chose to use sob stories sooner than personal successes. I know a Rhodes scholar, actually it's the chief health officer in my province. She's a dear friend. She earned her scholarship through academia and volunteering, athleticism and creativity. She didn't use a sympathy card.
This poor girl. Seems like someone had it out for her. It’s not very clear where the line was crossed into lying. Why is her school getting her medical history and why are facts about her medical history being shared on the news? I’d sue them for sure that is so not cool
@@zudemaster you have no idea if she got financial aid for that. Wouldn’t surprise if she did since she was a good student. Plenty of people go to private school for free on merit
Answer: Rachel maddow: lies on a daily basis. Apparently that's what being a Rhodes Scholar is all about, ..... being the most skilled liar in the country.
Are we going to talk about how Penn was the one to label her as "First generation; Low income" and not the student herself as a way of bolstering diversity numbers? Because Penn says you're first gen if you are the first to go to an Ivy and she financial independent working several jobs at the time of her application to Penn. I don't blame her for fitting the definition they gave. As for the abuse, yeah rich people can beat and neglect their kids all while sending them to horse camp and private school. Money doesn't make your moral and frankly it's a little insulting to lower income people that it more believable that they would be abusive because of economic status. This girl was pushed down the stairs by her mother, spent 22 days in hospital, and then was sent to foster care all while making the grades and social commitments to get into an Ivy league school. Penn doesn't like that she is speaking out against them and is critical of the school. Can't have one of their charity cases causing problems for them.
When I was 19, I applied for Federal Student Aid (fafsa or pell grant) so I could go to college. On the application, it asked if I was an orphan or ward of the state before the age of 18. I answered no, because I had grown up with/been raised by my mom and stepdad. The federal government (U.S.) sent it back telling me that the information I provided didn't match federal and state records. I knew there had been some family problems when I was a baby, but according to my mom, it had all been settled when I was a toddler. Turns out the judge in that case made me a "Ward of the State" until I turned 18 in order to discourage those same relatives from taking me in the future. So in theory, I could also be called a "liar" for putting that on my documents for college, because I was raised by my parents.
that's totally different. YOU were unaware of your status. . THIS girl lied intentionally. And why would you lie about something that's going to get you LESS aid??? Be serious 🙄
That’s interesting! It’s true we don’t always know what has gone on in our early childhood, we usually don’t fact check our parents (in general, not saying your mom was lying!).
T Rawlins She didn’t lie. This video debunks everything and uncovers the massive corruption and conspiracy in UPenn driving this smear: ruclips.net/video/z83xafelusc/видео.html
I know that all of my peers, that is to say people in their 30s lie on their resumes, or have lied to get ahead. Also. There was definitely some form of abuse. Just because you’re a radiologist doesn’t mean you have your head on your shoulders straight. You can still be totally effed up in your head. They teach this in Japan all throughout the anime and manga.
It is messed up how the media has been so quick to jump on the bandwagon of condemning this girl who is being scapegoated by her University. Mackenzie was horribly abused by her mother. UPenn has very broad criteria for what counts as a low income first generation student. Under that Mackenzie did qualify because she was in foster care when she applied to the University, wasn't being financially supported by her family and her parents hadn't gone to an elite University. She had never claimed to have grown up poor. Her University just put her as a low income first generation student so that they could seem woke for having students like that. It is also interesting to note that right before this scandal happened Mackenzie was supposed to serve as a witness against UPenn for a wrongful death that happened at the school. This video does a good job covering this whole messy situation. ruclips.net/video/z83xafelusc/видео.html

Her mother lost her radiologist job in 2014. And Mackenzie was in foster home for over a year because her mother abused her. Where is the lie, seems like a vendetta against the girl.
The abuse charges were dropped though and they think Mackenzie lied about what happened with the mom. That is the difficulty of child abuse cases. Who to believe? I believe she should keep her degree as she earned it, but it sounds like she stretched the truth on her application essay.
@@rockerchick6168 Yeah she earned the degree through her own smarts nothing else. There is a real difficulty with abuse cases and what's the truth and what isn't. At this point, just because she's being investigated doesn't mean she's actually guilty of anything. It's simply conjecture. That comment hit home with me. I never put a sad story in my college application but when I started seeing a school psychologist because of what I now know is PTSD and panic attacks) during junior year, I made her cry through telling my story. I never wanted to admit that I had it bad and normalized it. When you’re so young you often don’t have the means to rationalize your situation well enough for an admissions or scholarship essay.
I have no problem with it. People can use their skin color, regardless of their circumstances, to gain college spots. Why is her trauma less than somebody else? If she grew up in a good home and was abused, it's still abuse. It may even be MORE traumatic to someone who isn't accustomed to the horrors of mistreatment. Trauma is subjective. And just because somebody didn't grow up in the hood it doesn't mean they had a grand life. I knkw so many people from affluent or even middle class families who had abusive drug addicts or alcoholics as parents. I know many who were victims of physical and sexual violence. Having bills paid or food on the table doesn't matter much if a child is being mentally or physically traumatized and their soul crushed during their formative years. That the lights stayed on and there was food in the fridge doesn't matter AT ALL to a child. All a child is looking for is stability and love.
Your comment about someone “not being accustomed to the horrors of mistreatment” and possibly being more traumatized than someone who has repeated abused is SO IGNORANT. No one is downplaying being in foster care not being traumatic. It’s the information she added that was not truthful. Perhaps if she had said simply the truth, she still would have been awarded the scholarship anyway.

As somebody who is from St. Louis, you can be poor and still live in a large house with trees. You cannot go to a private school, but I am wondering if she felt poor after being amongst beyond-extravagant wealth at Penn. I know I have felt that way after relocating to San Francisco. If you didn't grow up with a trust fund and you don't make $200K+ per year here, you feel insanely poor. Honestly, being in Foster care should not be taken lightly. Far more privileged kids get accepted into top scholarships.
I think you forgot to mention NewsNation that Mechanize doesn't live with her mother now. She is living with a past professor who is giving her a home to live in. If this was all made up why is she living with a professor and not her mother? It's pretty sick that this is how a former "alumni" is treated by Penn University after everything she has been through. She also never stated that she was "poor" that was just "1" requirement of the field that she checked. She checked that box because she was in foster care, that was part of the description and why she checked that box. Please do better research before stating facts. "Facts" can absolutely ruin people.
There's only 32 Rhodes Scholarships each year and, as stated by Isabel Vincent, columnist, "the university cannot possibly fact check everything in the personal essay that students are telling them." This statement dilutes the credibility of the university, Rhodes, and higher degree education.
So she was really in a foster home? And her grades are her own work? Seems she embellished her story at most, which I’m sure is very common for admissions essays.
NO try again. She said she was a first generation college grad which was a LIE not an exaggeration. She said she grew up poor, also a flat out lie! A 4.0 is nothing special, plenty of high school students graduate with honors. She felt entitled to something that wasn’t for her to decide. Clearly she lacks moral character and doesn’t deserve such a prestigious award.
A horrible lie is accusing someone of a crime they didn't commit. Or making up a hate crime that increases fear mongering, distrust and hatred in an already hostile and divided country. Exaggerating how many foster families you lived in is not a horrible lie, it's fabrication and is probably a direct result of the trauma experienced within the foster care system. And I'm doubting she had financial support for college from her mother who was found guilty of abusing her, and who also lost her job. Seems to me she lied/exaggerated to survive. And it's done by literally almost all college applicants these days. Heck, most of them don't even write their own essays.

I don't agree with what she did....but there is something to be said when college applicants feel like they have to lie about life experiences to get a scholarship...
Her story WAS sad, just didn't include poverty beyond a short stretch of time. Additionally, she didnt lie about her story but qualified. It's just now that the story is being twisted by the school
Shame on you for posting this absolute lie, she went through extreme abuse by the hands of her mother and was on her own in trying to financially support herself. The whole thing is retaliation from Penn for helping the family of a student who died there gain clarity (which led them to sue Penn State).
For Ms. Isabel Vincent to make a comment that Mackenzie exaggerated the situation for her own personal gain is outrageous. (The comment is in this RUclips presentation). There is a documented account of the turning point attack aftermath, of what happened to Mackenzie, by a hospital. Ms. Vincent has not experienced a violent attack from someone who is supposed to care for you - and she shouldn't. I believe Ms. Vincent should spend sometime volunteering at a battered women's shelter to get a better understanding of the impact on that persons life. You can be born into an upper class family and still be abused. It happens everyday. I too was physically beaten by my mother, then she would belittle me to her friends, and extended family. To this day I do not communicate with my biological family. I'm lucky enough to have married an understanding individual and have 2 children of my own, a beautiful home, and a career. My family stands together because we truly love one another. God's speed to Mackenzie - keep fighting. I'm sorry to say your pain will only dissipate with your mother's passing.
So what!!! Good for her... yes she lied to better herself and further her education... not one person reading this or listening to this is perfect. Mackenzie’s charges against her mother being dropped DO NOT MEAN HER MOM WAS INNOCENT. I find it distressing that the journalists assume that this means Mackenzie wasn’t abused.
There is a direct quote, from the journalist, that suggests she built on that truth. She doesn't say she wasn't abused.

"I went into a rabbit hole on this and learned that this started after Mackenzie was going to be a witness in the wrongful death lawsuit of a Black grad student who died due to poor access to phones and phone service on campus.

The government doesn’t pay for your college. Our hard earned tax dollars do.

@@trawlins396 lying about that is sick, but I'm just saying it's not for them to speculate. Idk. Growing up I was a rich kid with a charismatic abuser so I will never accuse anyone of lying just in case they aren't
We're all aware that being the best & brightest is no longer enough. If you don't fit the current narrative & you can't check all the right boxes you won't get into the college of your choice & you won't be awarded the best scholarships. Someone who fits the narrative will, with or without the grades & achievements. And frankly those with the worst stories don't write them in their applications, they can barely talk about their histories with their therapists, if they can even afford one. The whole process is a joke. Luckily you don't need to be a Rhodes Scholar to be a successful & productive member of society.
This woman lied to obtain a spot. The program should sue her for their expenditures related to her inaccuracies.
@@MsFunnybags She Knows the girl lied. But she didn't lie about her grades, she had the grades to get in. She's stating it's ridiculous that kids can't get this scholarship unless they fit the narrative of being poor & abused
@@MsFunnybags Unfortunately, she did not lie
I'm not too impressed by the examples. Bill Clinton, Rachel Maddow?
You're not alone!
Right I agree
That is what I was thinking too!
This girl would fit right in.
It used to be "Friends in High Places" now it is "Friends in the DNC" oh and DONORS...
I am a Rhodes Scholar. I paid $22,000 and was accepted.
Sounds about right. Can't hear that Bill Clinton and Rachel Maddow are both Rhodes scholars and then still believe it's about intelligence.
So you’re telling me she confused bouncing from foster homes with riding horse back?!?! And she is able to SUE THE SCHOOL?!?! Um ok sign me
Up please cause I want that too 🙄 man what happen to ppl really working for those spots LEGIT WORKING for those spots?!?!?! MY daughter is a 4.0 and has AMAZING grades… no Im not rich but when she was asked she said the one thing she could control was her grades and that she would be someone in this awful world! That she would make a difference. That’s the human I raised. Come on man…. What are you teaching these kids? That it’s ok to lie to get get what you want in life?!?!?!
Honestly she did the work and she should keep the degree. Otherwise it was a waste of time for everyone.
The woman offering her opinion in this video is a horrible communicator! She should not have been the guest.

She wasn't.

This is all bull$#!t… time to retract this story! The anonymous tipster was likely her mother who has been trying to sabotage her life since the incident. This young lady was sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend and then practically killed by her mother. The girl was in the hospital for weeks recovering, that’s no simple bump on the head. Stop the victim blaming! Fact driven news???
Well , Elizabeth Warren did it too and look where she is today. So why not?
Thousands of students graduate with straight A's and a 4.0, that's nothing new or special. There are only 32 slots that belong to people who have something more to offer than time spent at the spa and horseback riding. There's nothing special about her and she knew it so that's why she felt she had to lie to make herself appear to be more interesting. It sounds to me like she's an entitled brat.
I can only imagine how dating went...
These students usually have grades higher than a 4.0.
@@MsFunnybags Schools that give out more than 4.0 for A.P classes are handing out brownie points. You can see if a class is A.P on a transcript.
Her Mother abused her so badly, she lost custody her. She was also charged with assault, 3 counts of it. I am certain was very traumatizing for the girl.
@@Rebecca-hc5ju Her mother did not “abuse her so badly”. Give me a break! Did you watch the video? The lady says it was an isolated “accident” and that the charges were dropped 5 months later.
To the application committee ...do your research
lied her way to the top? sounds like more Rhodes scholars-she should fit right in
She would loose the Rhodes scholar label, but she did earn that degree, there was abuse, and there was foster care...so don't throw everything away. ...the impact on her is different than for a third party reading about it. You are acting like the saying " ... throwing the baby with the bathwater'. 💔👎😢😡
Liars shouldn't be rewarded.
Her case just goes to show that academic merit alone does not count as much as being a victim does.
Absolutely hilarious, this lady appears just shocked and amazed😂
Another AOC
Didn’t the university have to get a high school transcript? I would have graduated 1st in my class if they just take the word of applicant. That would have had the high school she attended on it.
They said grad school, so they got her bachelors transcript.
@@iamPinga thank you, I missed that part
As somebody who is from St. Louis, you can be poor and still live in a large house with trees. You cannot go to a private school, but I am wondering if she felt poor after being amongst beyond-extravagant wealth at Penn.
I know I have felt that way after relocating to San Francisco. If you didn't grow up with a trust fund and you don't make $200K+ per year here, you feel insanely poor.
Honestly, being in Foster care should not be taken lightly. Far more privileged kids get accepted into top scholarships.
So she was abused by her mom and did go to foster care…. This is a waste of time and people should mind their own business
This whole story seems like a very disturbing future Dateline. I hope & pray for their healing. The whole family needs therapy.
She has to pay for her school. You can’t go to a 30k a year private school and then beg for a scholarship
Exactly! Guarantee her family has a few million hidden away somewhere. They always do 🙄
Sadly, 30k/year tuition isn’t much these days comparatively speaking. Downright cheap for an Ivy League…😬
@@grimtt the 30k/year was for her private high school tuition.... Did you pay that much for your high school?
@@Tribuneoftheplebs oh, ok I was thinking they meant her college tuition, and no I didn’t go to a private high school unless community college counts…
@@grimtt The most I've ever paid for university was 7.5k/year for my undergraduate degree here in Canada. Which I still think was too much 😔
I think you forgot to mention NewsNation that Mechanize doesn't live with her mother now.
There's only 32 Rhodes Scholarships each year and, as stated by Isabel Vincent, columnist, "the university cannot possibly fact check everything in the personal essay that students are telling them." (2:30) IF this is true, good heavens, how inept is this university admissions department and Rhodes committee?! This statement dilutes the credibility of the university, Rhodes, and higher degree education.
So she was really in a foster home? And her grades are her own work? Seems she embellished her story at most, which I’m sure is very common for admissions essays.
Exactly! This is so unfair! If not for the anonymous tip she would be publicly ambarassed..
@@tamlynn786 She WAS a first gen college grad by Penn’s own definition. They define first gen as not an “elite” school such as Ivy League.
This news channel needs to get all the facts before announcing the news.
It's bad enough when abusers deny their victims' accusations. It's even worse when they people around them also deny the victims' accusations.
So do you have to come from a troubled or poor background to qualify for this scholarship? Or make the grades? Or both? Im confused…..
Many women have accused people of crimes they didn’t commit she’s one of them and that’s terrible she should be arrested for it
Exactly...and apparentLu one thing she isn't is....stupid

All those lies are impressive. She could work in politics
Both of these “journalists” should be ashamed of themselves. Gas lighting a victim and basically calling her a liar. This should be taken down.
Its all good, she's just exercising her privilege. If this was a male applicant, there'd be criminal charges.
She is smart indeed
As pathtic as this is. I hope Mackenzie Morrison, her real name, wins her lawsuit. She deserves it
People like me struggle to pay to college. I had to join the military just to get ahead. My god. She has no idea how people like struggle to get into college and to make something of themselves. I wasn’t In the foster system but abuse and living In poverty is all I know. Rich people like her will never understand the struggle or the pain of a person who grew up poor.
Why should her parents hard work be used against her? This is so ridiculous
Liar liar

She didn't lie though.
Depends on whose perspective you are looking at it from. Politicians lie all day ,every day.
Agree
When I was much much younger and out breaking the law with my road dawgs, we had a saying that goes like this..." If you get away with a crime never talk about it to anyone, infact we would convince ourselves that we never commited the crime and was home sleeping...My point is, if you get away with murder dont brag about it......Had she kept her mouth shut non of this would have happened....And to those who are mentioning her childhood abuse story. Horse back riding, sky diving, and rafting...are you kidding me? My dad use to beat me and my brothers and sisters with an extention cord ( the God fearing man he was ). The only reason we never called it abuse is because he took care of his family and never once put his hands on our mom and its those beatings that made me get my act together....And yes I still love and talk to pops!
So no lies were told, she just exaggerated… just like this news anchor. Smh
Unbelievable! 😡
If she was able to pull this off and fool all of these people then to me she is a Rhodes Scholar to me.
This is just horrible. The reality is that there are many prestigious scholarships like Loran that are usually dominated by privileged folks with some spots for the underserved. The fact that this rich girl abused the equity opportunities just disgusts me. I’m from a marginalized, low-income community.
I don't agree with what she did....but there is something to be said when college applicants feel like they have to lie about life experiences to get a scholarship...
So you think it's fair they lie? Smart people don't have to lie to get scholarships. If you're not smart and rich, you need to pay for your education.
But she was in foster homes. Just because you are rich does not mean you can not be abused.
Rachel spent 4yrs telling ridiculous lies about trump and is honored for it,what do you expect
This is so frustrating! Because what she did was wrong but I understand her point. Without the “sad story upbringing” she wouldn’t have gotten in…..
So? Happens to every other person every day. What makes her special?
Her story WAS sad, just didn't include poverty beyond a short stretch of time. Additionally, she didnt lie about her story but qualified. It's just now that the story is being twisted by the school
The young lady exaggerated her circumstances; the truth matters!
Shame on you for posting this absolute lie, she went through extreme abuse by the hands of her mother and was on her own in trying to financially support herself. The whole thing is retaliation from Penn for helping the family of a student who died there gain clarity (which led them to sue Penn State).
The truth finally emerges. She was not poor.
I don't know, living in foster care for an entire year is a big deal. A radiologist doesn't make a lot of money.
A radiologist…doesnt make a lot of money? How about $300K+ per year on average, is that “not a lot of money?”
Riding horses as a kid does not make a family rich.
Isabel Vincent, the truth is literally in front of you. Do your homework next time you accept any commentator gig.
Everyone lies and embellishes on their resume to further themselves. She still did the work to earn those degrees... y'all need to get over yourselves.... at least she didn't sleep her way to the top.... and even if she did sleep her way to the top good for her.... when did we become judge, jury and executioner...
Oh yeah the Whitfield school I know it well .they should of checked her out better ..
Yes, I know it well too. We looked at Whitfield for our son before chosing the school he's in now.
