Always keep it simple. Knowing the concepts playing around and winging it is a great way to play. A lot of early Rockabilly was done on the fly and it still sounds great. Cheers Colin.
very well explained colin its all about how the individual interprates what they hear ,i have learned a lot by being a member of your guitar masters course ,and can now play more efficiantly by absorbing the basic principles you teach .
I’ve played dozens of gigs in a covers band. It’s exactly right very few solos were really played note for note if any really. I’d pick a certain part that people may recognise and play around with that so it’s all done in the spirit of the song but not note for note. Never had anyone complain I suppose that’s the beauty of a covers band as opposed to a tribute band. Great video, can’t think why I never learned this song
Thanks for that- lots of useful stuff there. There’s a great version by Dr. Feelgood with Wilko Johnson going apeshit ( I don’t suppose he worried about playing all of the correct notes either!)
Written by Bobby Troup in the late 40s, and first released by Nat King Cole. A big band jazz number before Chuck Berry turned it into a RnR classic.
Nice job. You caught that hook. A local band where I live play that song and they always nail it.
Bob Troupe wrote Route 66. The Stones heard Chuck's interpretation and took it from there. Great riff by Keith.
Cheers yes that’s right Keith is a great part of the rock n roll evolution 👍

Thanks, Colin, for the lesson of Route 66 (by the way written by Bobby Troup). Really enjoyed it.
thanks Rob - appreciate the feedback and thanks for the clarification on Bobby Troup - every day is a school day! :-)
For a while i was dumbfounded why the white power band "the klansmen" made a cover of this song and now i understand why, unfortunately
King Col has a fresh new haircut.
That didn't go unnoticed, King Col.

written by who? try Bobby Troup ( Dr. Joe Early on Emergency) married to Julie London (Dixie McCall on Emergency)
@@monoped8437 aye man you’re the third person to bring this to my attention. Many thanks 👍
Awesome!! Now I know where ACDC came up with Bad Boy Boogie.
It was written in 1946 by Bobby Troup (husband of Julie London) not Chuck Berry!

Great point - made me laugh! I just had this image of a dude putting his hand up after to point out a discrepancy in the 14th bar 😂 👍
