Local volunteers provide lifesaving care for migrants at the US border

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) worked alongside Tucson-based nonprofits to better understand the medical humanitarian needs of asylum seekers crossing the US-Mexico border near the Sonoran Desert in April and May 2024.
Arizona-based organizations including Humane Borders, Tucson Samaritans, Green Valley Samaritans, and No More Deaths, as well as independent humanitarians, are providing water, shelter, and other lifesaving aid to migrants waiting to request asylum at the border. Without these volunteers, people who've just crossed the border would be left with no sustenance or services in rough terrain where the weather can be extreme-freezing nighttime temperatures in winter, and blazing hot temperatures and rain in the summer months.
