Just another world, when music was from human beings, not from technology. No sound system, no mixing, no fake stereo, no filters, and of course, no auto tune. Guess what? The music sounds great!
With Ricky Nelson; They sighed. With Elvis Presley; they shouted With Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard; howled, and with Bill Haley; They danced, because Bill Haley is 100% Rock and Roll. WITH IT ALL STARTED!
On this day in 1956 {June 30th} Billy Haley & his Comets appeared in concert at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey... Some overzealous fans got out of hand and local police were called, 25 people were hospitalized which resulted in the city council banning all future rock concerts at the Convention Center... At the time the group's "Hot Dog, Buddy Buddy" was at #65 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the week before it had peaked at #60 and stayed on the chart for 6 weeks... During the calendar year of 1956 Bill & the boys had nine records make the Top 100 chart; started with "See You Later, Alligator" {#6}, "R-O-C-K" {#16}, "The Saints Rock 'N Roll" {#18}, this one, "Rockin' Through the Rye" {#78}, "Rip It Up" {#25}, "Teenage's Mother (Are You Right?)" {#68}, "Rudy's Rock" {#34}, and "Don't Knock the Rock" {#45}...
Strangely, even though Haley appeared at the legendary Steel Pier in AC during the 1950's once he achieved stardom, he was previously one of the biggest draws about 40 miles south at the Hotel Hofbrau on Atlantic Ave in Wildwood, NJ from c.1952 until RATC hit in 1955. Neither venue exists today although a plaque is at the former site of the Hofbrau in Wildwood. As for the Steel Pier, today's iteration built on the site of the original " Showplace Of The Nation" at Virginia Ave. and the Boardwalk in AC hardly resembles it's namesake which once was the home of 4 theaters and a ballroom over the ocean that operated 80 years before being destroyed by fire in the early 1980s
Do not adjust your set! If you were west of the coaxial cable the FOLLOWING WEEK AFTER this broadcast, the only COLOR YOU SAW was black and white. Thanks to NBC Kinephoto for this one .
In February 2006, the International Astronomical Union announced the naming of asteroid 79896 Billhaley to mark the 25th anniversary of Bill Haley's death. Rockers from around the world, please take a ride on the comet's tail to see the milky way!!!

Tiny amps, no real vocal mic, and they still sound good.
