Did you pick any of those yo´? have the very same dilema. Can´t notice if its useful to record separate tracks for a MIC and guitar, or just sends the full stereo mix via USB.
If I want to record 3 condenser mics out of this, which inputs do I plug it into and how do I get those mics super clear into garage band? I tried it and it was super quiet coming through my mac and couldn’t figure out why. Also I couldn’t figure out how to hear the sound from the board plugging in headphones. When I plugged them in nothing would come out
Hello, Francesco! The Pro Fx series mixers only send the stereo mix out digitally via USB. In a way, you could still multitrack with it, but only two channels at a time. I recommend looking into Mackie’s Onyx series mixers as these do allow for multitracking over USB. Thanks for the interest! Hello, could you help me to know how to record sounds from youtube for example to the recording program of the same computer, I could not get it, thanks
Thanks for the video. I’ve had the Pro FX12 for years and just got the Pro FX22v3. What I didn’t realize was that there’s no equalizer sliders on the v3. I’m used to that and wondering if there’s no need or if I should tie in an equalizer. Old school here and like to really tune my live sound. Thanks!
Hi GFizz, thanks for the question! Master EQs have been phasing out of a lot of mixers lately, and I am not entirely sure why, but there are some great add-on options for you. While a standard graphic eq is nice and gives a quick fix, having a proper PA management solution can really take things to the next level. Check out the DBX DriveRacks: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DriveRackPA2--dbx-driverack-pa2-complete-loudspeaker-management-system They have feedback suppression, crossovers and very high fidelity EQs built in. They can even be used with an RTA mic and set your system to a target curve automatically no matter where you are! Once you use one, they are hard to part with! Let me know if you need anything else! Hi, Michael! At current, Mackie has not formally listed compatibility with the new M1 chips. But like other developers, I am certain they are working on it. I had a Mackie Pro FX 12 and honestly it has been disappointing. It worked fine for about a year but then I had some issues with the different channels. They didn't have the same signal. In other words a couple of the channels were very quiet even when turned up all the way. I took it in to be serviced. They cleaned out the pots and told me nothing was wrong with it but it still has the same issues. I bought a much cheaper Behringer that has been very consistent for over a year now
Great tutorial! I have the 10 & 16. Question...can't getting individual channel levels to utility. My old Mackie 20 from 1999 had a trim. Should I just put all inputs sliders on utility? Also, if I put bass tones at 12 o'clock, there seems to be no crossover between 15 Thumps and 18 subs?
Another question on the 1-2 fader: does this mixer *finally* have a *stereo sub fader* ?? Like, yeah. Mackie has forever required us to use 2 sub faders so as to get a stereo mix - way, way old school. Also, for the 16 channel version - does this have two stereo sub faders, i.e. 1-2 and 3-4 ?
Hi skyfinancellc9538, great question! Yes, the ProFX V3 mixers have a dedicated Master fader for the stereo mix. The 16 channel version does have 2 stereo sub mixes in addition. If you want to dig in more, feel free to give me a shout! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com
Hi My 2 Cents, good question. The SM7B is a very gain hungry mic. The preamps on the Mackie are good, but they will be turned way up to take care of the SM7B. Since it is a mixer, this can be somewhat compensated for in a live setting since you have several gain stages to work with, but for recording or podcasting/streaming, I would probably invest in a mic booster like the Cloud Lifter or the Klark Teknik. If you have any more questions, give me a ring! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com
I bought the 16 track model in order to have a smaller mixer footprint in my home studio, replacing my very old Tascam 16:8:2 2600, which I may go back to now... It was a major struggle to get the MackieProFX16v3 to interface with my Windows 10 PC DAW. There is virtually no help in the manual - e.g. like explaining for instance that (i) you have to download a driver and that (ii) you have to switch off your audio interface in Windows and choose the 'Mackie USB' as your default device, and (iii) that any existing ASIO driver won't work with it - you have to go and download ASIO4ALL! How old school is that! The USB implementation seems to me to be somewhat crude; most of the controls don't work as expected when in USB2 mode (not USB3 in a 'new' model??). The audio is not anything like as clear as that through my RME Aio soundcard, so I cannot recommend this mixer for home recording use. It doesn't even have outputs for connecting to soundcard - I use subgroup 1 and 2 outs. (If you use main outs you can't hear existing tracks when recording a new track, or the existing tracks will be simply recorded again.) The desk is probably ok for use in a live band mixer setting, but not for home recording IMHO.
Marmaduke Winterbotham I just set mine up, downloaded the Mackie Driver...I’m getting input into Cubase, but no output...still trying to figure it out!
The guy is doing something wrong. I got the profxv3 10 channel and i couldnt get it working (win10 couldnt auto install the driver) and he pointed me where to get fhe driver at, installed it and i have no issues. I monitor my microphone while using it as a sound card to get sounds from my pc. Same set up he wanted. Im not sure where he went wrong.
Hi, Johannes. Great question! The effects send output is post fader. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
Thank you. However I still can't understand what these mixers offer as far as USB *output*. Can you please detail this? I've searched online for answers but just could not find them. (That doesn't feel so good.) For example: 1.) For recording out, is the idea that can pull a USB stereo mix of the whole mixer? 2.) Are individual channels *not accessible* in the output mix? 3.) I can specify the bit width and clock rate of the output mix, up to 24 bit / 192Khz, correct? 4.) Any other details you can specify for recording-out? Thank you
Hey there! 1. Yes, the USB out is for recording the stereo mix from the mixer. Essentially, whatever you’re sending out Main L&R is going to be recorded into the computer. 2. No, individual channels are not accessible via USB. 3. Yes, you have control over the bit depth and sample rate. 4. That’s pretty much the main gist of it. It’s just going to record whatever the main stereo mix is! Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions. Nick Pasquino, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3230, nick_pasquino@sweetwater.com
Will this allow you to have individual tracks in the DAW or does it just sum everything into two tracks via USB? I’m guessing it’s the latter because I don’t see it mentioned anywhere.
Hello, Michael! No, you cannot have different effects on different channels. Just the same effect at different levels on all channels. If you want different effects on different instruments check out some digital mixers: www.sweetwater.com/c265--Digital_Mixers Thanks for the interest! Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Nice video, but this presupposes that you are familiar with mixing boards as he throws around the terminology very quickly. Is there a version for complete beginners new to mixers and their uses?
Do I need to run this mixer through an amp if I’m using this with a PA system or is the amp already built in? Also, can you send different FX to different channels or can you only use one FX across the whole board at a time?
Hi, Mikael. Great question! This mixer does not have a built-in power amp. So if you are using passive speakers, you will need one. If you are using active speakers, you will not need an amp. You can not send different FX to different channels, unfortunately. If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
Thank you for answering my question being that it was similar. I am thinking of getting Alto ts 315’s and this mixer seems great. Would that work well? I bought a korg kronos 2 so i want to upgrade my sound system for recording and live performances.
I just bought the profx10v3 The usb stream mode only works through control room or headphones but not through main outs, problem is when sent through control room won’t send to a channel strip so I can’t eq, all I have is volume control anybody else experiencing this?
make sure you change the speaker to line usb 3-4. I noticed that it cannot do it together both phones and main outs. USB 1-2 are for phones and usb only and for main outs, use usb 3-4 by pressing the button on the right top corner. You won't be able to hear phones though.
Hello, Ivan! Yes, each channel has an insert. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
Hey guys... just purchased one of these, and I'm having a conundrum: For some reason, I can only hear USB input through control room outputs... not through the mains at all. I've tried everything... what am I doing wrong?!?! Yes, the LR is assigned ;)
@@SARAH-pk5cc YES! The USB is bidirectional on all Mackie V3 boards (which is VERY COOL!). 1/2 is USB out, and 3/4 is USB in. So, WITHIN your computer software, you need to make certain you have the correct output selected in audio routing preferences (ie channel 3,4), as well as having USB 3-4 button depressed on channel 12 of the board.
I have a stupid question.....I have the exact same mixer and my drummer uses a wedged monitor and I prefer to use in ear monitors but we both cant seem to figure out how to give us both of them at the same time. if the 12 channel had 2 Aux outputs we wouldn't be having the issue we are having LOL. I wasn't sure if by me connecting my in ear system (Xvive U4) to the control room outputs would be ok to do
Hey there. Yes, connecting your monitors to the control room output would certainly allow the 2 of you to have separate mixes. But, the control room outputs are going to be the exact same mix that’s going to your front of house speakers. Without multiple auxiliary outputs, there isn’t a way to have 2 separate mixes from what’s running to your mains. Unless you’re running a mixer with more aux outputs, you’ll be dealing with that issue. If you want to share that same monitor mix, you could look into some sort of ¼” splitter that would allow the 2 of you to both have access to that single auxiliary output. I hope this helps! Hi I have a ProFX16v2 and am doing some GarageBand recording. I would love to be able to divert the USB output to my headphones. Is there a way to achieve this please? I Can do it on my low budget Wharfdale mixer which has two buttons to enable USB to go our to headphones AND/OR main. Any help really appreciated. I put down a guitar track but when I record my vocals I record the guitar track again in the background. If the guitar track could be diverted to my headphones that would be brilliant.
The PFOFX12V2 had 4 stereo channels while the V3 has only 3. It is a real downside for me since I use keyboards, drum machines, groove machines and a backing track player.

Did you pick any of those yo´? have the very same dilema. Can´t notice if its useful to record separate tracks for a MIC and guitar, or just sends the full stereo mix via USB.
@@thesiamface I bought the Audio Interface
If I want to record 3 condenser mics out of this, which inputs do I plug it into and how do I get those mics super clear into garage band? I tried it and it was super quiet coming through my mac and couldn’t figure out why. Also I couldn’t figure out how to hear the sound from the board plugging in headphones. When I plugged them in nothing would come out
Enjoyed the review 😁. I have one doubt, can I use this mixer to increase depth in my voice??
I like!
Excellent review. Is it possible to do a multi-track recording into a DAW with it?
Hello, Francesco! The Pro Fx series mixers only send the stereo mix out digitally via USB. In a way, you could still multitrack with it, but only two channels at a time. I recommend looking into Mackie’s Onyx series mixers as these do allow for multitracking over USB.

Hello, could you help me to know how to record sounds from youtube for example to the recording program of the same computer, I could not get it, thanks
Sounds perfect just make sure obs monitor is off unless your trying to broadcast like on Sams.
Does this board add a little more kick to the mv7 mic
Check out the DBX DriveRacks:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DriveRackPA2--dbx-driverack-pa2-complete-loudspeaker-management-system
They have feedback suppression, crossovers and very high fidelity EQs built in. They can even be used with an RTA mic and set your system to a target curve automatically no matter where you are! Once you use one, they are hard to part with!
Let me know if you need anything else!

Is ProFX16v3 compatible with M1 Mac Mini running macOS 11 ?
Hi, Michael! At current, Mackie has not formally listed compatibility with the new M1 chips. But like other developers, I am certain they are working on it. It should not be long before M1 chips are formally supported by all developers.

I bought a much cheaper Behringer that has been very consistent for over a year now
which behringer product was it? recently got burned by a purchase due to my inexperience knowing what to look for.
I want to keep bass and bass drum out of the Thumps

Awesome guy haha
Do you still need the cloud lifter for that mic on this mixer? How much headroom is there without a lifter and that mic?
Hi My 2 Cents, good question. The SM7B is a very gain hungry mic. The preamps on the Mackie are good, but they will be turned way up to take care of the SM7B. Since it is a mixer, this can be somewhat compensated for in a live setting since you have several gain stages to work with, but for recording or podcasting/streaming, I would probably invest in a mic booster like the Cloud Lifter or the Klark Teknik.
If you have any more questions, give me a ring!

There is negative review on Amazon about the USB with Windows 10, can you clear that up for us?
The guy is doing something wrong. I got the profxv3 10 channel and i couldnt get it working (win10 couldnt auto install the driver) and he pointed me where to get fhe driver at, installed it and i have no issues. I monitor my microphone while using it as a sound card to get sounds from my pc. Same set up he wanted. Im not sure where he went wrong.
@@Faithfps where did he point you to download the win 10 driver please?

Is the effects send pre or post fader, meaning, is it possible to have the effects output only without the original signal in the mix?
Hi, Johannes. Great question! The effects send output is post fader.
Thanks!

Thank you. However I still can't understand what these mixers offer as far as USB *output*. Can you please detail this? I've searched online for answers but just could not find them. (That doesn't feel so good.) For example:
1.) For recording out, is the idea that can pull a USB stereo mix of the whole mixer?

Will this allow you to have individual tracks in the DAW or does it just sum everything into two tracks via USB? I’m guessing it’s the latter because I don’t see it mentioned anywhere.
how do you have this mixer connected? the main outs ?
Old video question, but I have the same question because of the him playing the bass through it.
When you turn effects on is that for all devices? In other words can you have bass with distortion and voice with reverb
Hello, Michael! No, you cannot have different effects on different channels. Just the same effect at different levels on all channels. If you want different effects on different instruments check out some digital mixers:

Nice video, but this presupposes that you are familiar with mixing boards as he throws around the terminology very quickly. Is there a version for complete beginners new to mixers and their uses?
Any provision for mix-minus?
Do I need to run this mixer through an amp if I’m using this with a PA system or is the amp already built in? Also, can you send different FX to different channels or can you only use one FX across the whole board at a time?
Hi, Mikael. Great question! This mixer does not have a built-in power amp. So if you are using passive speakers, you will need one. If you are using active speakers, you will not need an amp. You can not send different FX to different channels, unfortunately. If you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call. Thanks!

You won't be able to hear phones though.
does it have inserts to route eq and compressor ?? if not , can you recomend one with usb and inserts ??? greetings
Hello, Ivan! Yes, each channel has an insert.

Hey guys... just purchased one of these, and I'm having a conundrum: For some reason, I can only hear USB input through control room outputs... not through the mains at all. I've tried everything... what am I doing wrong?!?! Yes, the LR is assigned ;)
Do you have USB3-4 pushed in on 11-12 panel?
I have the same issue can’t find anything about it anywhere
Did you solve the prob?
@@SARAH-pk5cc YES! The USB is bidirectional on all Mackie V3 boards (which is VERY COOL!). 1/2 is USB out, and 3/4 is USB in. So, WITHIN your computer software, you need to make certain you have the correct output selected in audio routing preferences (ie channel 3,4), as well as having USB 3-4 button depressed on channel 12 of the board.
Man, Jon Lovitz really has sunk to an all-time low.
Does anybody know if this new series of mixers are compatible with iPad?
good question
When will these mixers have HDMI or fiber optic input & bluetooth?

Dang !! I could leave my bass amps at home !!
Does this have feedback detection like the V2 does

Can you use this mixer with passive speakers?
Hello, Ryan! Yep, you can use any mixer with passive spearers, you just have to have a separate power amp for the speakers. You may be used to using powered mixers, but I think having your mixer separate from the power section is a better route to go.
