    If you're not sure which flea treatment is right for your cat, consult your veterinarian to identify a product that's both safe and effective. Have you used any of these products before? Did they work and were you happy with the results? Let us know in the comments!

    I tried the Soresto collar on my cat and when he went to scratch his neck, the collar spun and gave him really bad neck burns and cuts. I've had my other cat get her teeth under it and that caused mouth trauma.
    I wouldn't recommend soresto to anyone for cats. Look up "cat collar injuries" as they can be serious. Such as the cat getting their arm in the collar and causing a massive cut in their armpit.

    I fought a huge infestation of fleas when I rescued a kitten from the streets, my grown cat got fleas, my dog got fleas and my kitten was the one that brought the fleas. So at that point my whole house was infested, and I didn’t know what to do. My grown cat had gotten fleas before when she was also a kitten and she also came from the streets, so I had deal with it before by taking my cat and my dog to the vet and getting a the medication the provided which was $15 each dosis. It worked for me at that time but this time around it was not working, I took all my animals to the vet multiple times to get the treatment but it was doing nothing. With my husband we decided to give Advantage a try and it work like a champ! We started to see dead fleas appeared in our sofa or the bed, they were just dying with the first treatment we have put on them. Now I know maybe advantage could be a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth every penny, specially when I had already spent a bunch in the vet’s medication that didn’t work. Complementary to advantage I used a house flea treatment spray so I could spray it on the furniture and carpet and that helped a lot. I was really frustrated with the fleas so what I did is that I gave my cats a bath, I applied the advantage treatment, then I washed all my bed sheets and cover seats with hot water and after I did that I sprayed the house with that treatment, it worked really good! I got all of those things at Walmart so it was easy access and amazing results. My home is now flea-free and my cats are happier than ever.

    I also noticed one of the kittens had segments coming out of the Butt. So I went ahead and got any kinds of meds I can use once they put on more weight. They’re still under 2 pounds. I bought bayer tape worm dewormer, Drontal( for things like round worms), and Cheristin for fleas.. I also have food grade (has to be food grade) diatomaceous earth which can be used to kill worms from the inside. I don’t plan on using everything at once but I’ll be ready if needed.

    • @AllAboutCatsYT
      @AllAboutCatsYT  4 года назад +4

      Hi there, it sounds like you're well-prepared to get rid of any intestinal parasites. Since worms can be particularly dangerous for young kittens, I would also consider consulting with a veterinarian to identify the type of infestation and decide on the right next steps.
      Also, there's almost no evidence that diatomaceous earth is an effective dewormer. Here's an enlightening review of the studies done on DE as a dewormer: www.sheepandgoat.com/de

    We started trying to get rid of our fleas with Advantag II..... it seemed like it was working for a couple weeks, then our cats were back to scratching. We then tried Frontline Plus for 4 months... same results but the vet told us to stick to it. The first 3 doses the cats seemed to be better for 2 or 3 weeks then back to scratching. The 4th dose, the cats never stopped scrating. During the spot on treatments, we swept the house and furniture every other day. Washed bedding weekly. I was spraying the inside of our home with Black Flag monthly. Vet then said our only options were RX spot on, or the Seresto collars. We have 8 cats so taking each one into the vet and getting an expensive spot on treatment every month that was not going to be realistic. We decided to try the collars and I'm very glad we did. Scratching has stopped. Our very "chonky" cat who was the main victim of the flea bites due to his... inability to clean a large area on his back, which is where there would be high concentrations of flea feces. We are now going on 4 weeks in with the Seresto collars and there are no flea feces on him. The last two weeks when I did a weekly flea combing I only found a couple very slow moving (dying) fleas.
    I'm hopeful now that the Seresto collar is going to be our white knight in our odd timed flea infestation. I am continuing to do monthly spraying of all floors and baseboards in the home as well as the furniture. Of course also continuing the vaccuuming every other day and paying extra attention to vaccuming off furniture the cats lay on as well as washing bedding weekly.
    One thing I will say, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A SERESTO COLLAR BUT ISN'T BRAND NAME. These collars do NOT have a generic and if you look on Amazon there's some knock off looking collars coming in round tins but if you look at the active ingredients in these NONE of the knock offs have a real insecticide, they're loaded with various essential oils. Real Seresto collars will have a Batch/Lot number on the cardboard box which will match the metal tin. The box will also have a serial number that matches a number inprinted on the collar itself. DEFINITELY check to make sure all the numbers match because there were a lot of fake collars circulating online shops. Also worth noting, if you get a two pack of the collars, both collars will have the same numbers. I had to order 4 of the 2 packs but you can bet each one was checked.

    You will start to notice small red dots that look like blood around the washer, sink, or anywhere that can get wet. Flea poop turns red when wet. That is when you need to start finding flea meds for the animals. This means the house is about to get overrun by fleas, if not already. I have found that buying a spray for bed bugs and fleas works well around the house. I still need a cheap solution for fleas for 7 cats. I am starting to get a problem again.

    I have four cats with flea infestations and will be implementing many of these tips! But I will actually be using bug bombs to treat most of my apartment, I've done this before when we had an ant infestation so I know it works! I put the cats in a separate room or area of the apartment then I duct tape the door to the room with the bug bomb and I do this to each area of the house until every section is treated, moving the cats and myself accordingly. It's a length process for sure but I want to be absolutely certain I stamp out these fleas. My babies will no longer suffer! Best of luck to everyone treating flea infestations.

    My cat has fleas and they are in my house too. They were biting my feet and ankles and I had itchy bumps. I tried flea drops. Didn't work. I have been using the Adams Flea shampoo but I have to bathe my cat every 7 days. In between baths, when I brush his fur with a flea comb, he still has lots of fleas and flea dirt. The shampoo works great for killing the fleas when I bathe him but it certainly doesn't prevent the fleas from coming back for 28 days! It doesn't even prevent them for a week! I also put a flea collar on him which does absolutely nothing! My husband made a homemade flea trap using a shallow container of soapy water with a desk lamp shining over it. I have caught about 30 fleas using that so far. I also used the Raid flea spray and sprayed my entire carpet in my bedroom, around my bed frame and I also coated my bathroom floor and around the baseboards because I was seeing them in there too. I haven't treated any other rooms yet but I'm going to. The only product that got rid of the fleas on my cat was the oral pills. They work great but they are only effective for a couple of days. This isn't cost effective because there are only 6 pills in a box and they cost $30 a box. If I have to give my cat a pill everyday, that would cost about $150 a month! I can't afford that. I'm at my wits end with this problem!

    • @adessachui7777
      @adessachui7777 2 года назад +4

      You have to treat all rooms at the same time. You can't do one today and another tomorrow. Get the pets out of the house while you vacuum and steam clean and wash everything. OR I would clean the bathroom (mop floors and everything) then give them a bath and lock them in there while you take care of the rest of the house and then go back and mop the bathroom floor again. This is how you have to tackle this because otherwise they just move from one room to the other. I'd also throw the towels you dry the pets with in the washer and not leave them around the pets.

      Journey Towards Salvation Bravecto is prescription only, so you would have to get a prescription from a vet. You can fill the prescription at your vets office or a pet store like Petco/Chewy. One dose costs about $60 but it lasts 3 months, which is long enough time get rid of them for good if your cat is always indoors. You need something that works for at least a month because fleas lay eggs that drop around the house. I also tried vacuuming w/ a flea collar inside the canister but honestly I think the Bravecto solved the problem for me. Good luck! Fleas suck...

    He has never had such resistant fleas before, and unbatheable. I have thought of shaving his longish fur but wonder how long it would take to regrow. Anyone know?

      Hello Ange, a long-haired cat's fur will generally take between 4-6 months to regrow, so I'd put it at about 4 months out. He should have a fair amount of regrowth by the time the weather turns cooler.

      @@AllAboutCatsYT Thank you. Very helpful and appreciated.
      I tried the food grade DE Earth, flea spray, spot on Frontline. Not made any difference this year.
      I am in SE England, and have never before know so many fleas to grow so fast. I can't keep putting chemicals on him, nor using a harsh metal flea comb 3-4 times a day as it could make his skin sore. Nor can I keep using my small finger nail to go into his face fur and flick them out. It's like prodding him in the face and even though he tries to bear with it, he is becoming wary of me.
      I know bathing cats can rob them of oils and make their skins vulnerable to infection. So a gentle shaving seems to be the only answer but maybe for next year now, as we have had rain and cooling since I asked (which will help kill them off when I let him out again). 4-6 months here and it will be the depths of winter with possibly freezing temperatures.

    Do these topical flea drops really work? I got revolution plus. I used them a while back and I never noticed a difference. Bravecto chewable for dogs works like a charm! But they don’t have them for cats. Only topical drops. When I use these drops I always get the hair wet. It’s hard as heck to get on the skin. And then my cat licks it off. He is able to reach the area where I put it. So I guess I gotta go higher behind the neck instead of the shoulder blades?

      Hi there. Some topical medications seem to work differently in various areas and it's speculated that fleas have developed resistance to certain products. You may want to talk directly with a veterinarian about the issues you're encountering.

      @@AllAboutCatsYT everyone here seems to want to give revolution plus. I got mine from the city spay and neuter program. I don’t necessarily have a veterinarian. I have a lot of feral cats in my backyard and we are getting hit hard with fleas now.

    Hi there, my girl is under a year. I gave her a bath and took one small black flee right off her back. About a week ago I stopped by vet and complain about it. They sold me Advantage multi 5.1-9Lbs which had 3 doses. I put one as per direction and yet a week later this is what happened. I can see that even after todays bath, she is still trying to catch some. In your opinion, SENTRY Fiproguard or one of this oral pill, would it be better?

    • @AllAboutCatsYT
      @AllAboutCatsYT  2 года назад

      Hi Timofey, Advantage should work as well or better than the Fiproguard, so I'd wonder if you still have fleas in the environment that need to be wiped out to completely eradicate the infestation. In my mind, treating the environment would be the best next step (while continuing to apply the Advantage Multi as directed).

    Fipronil is the active ingredient in Frontline which also offer spray option (100 and 250 ml) for easier use, on cats and surroundings. They are not cheap. Fipronil is widely use on agricultural crops and even by pest controllers.
    Termidor SC extensively utilized by professional pest controllers for cockroaches, ants, termites, etc has about 9% of fipronil, the same level in Frontline.

    Is vets best spray safe bc I'm seeing A LOT of ppl saying it's good but I'm also seeing a few ppl saying it's harmful bc of peppermint oil to cats so I'm really confused

      Hey there. Thanks for the comment. It is confusing. From our written review of this Vet's Best spray: "Remember that essential oils are generally considered unsafe for cats. The company says that while concentrated or undiluted essential oils are dangerous for cats, this dilute blend is completely safe both to apply directly to your cat and to use in the home. Out of almost 400 customer reviews, only two mentioned potential negative reactions to the product, and neither involved symptoms typical of essential oil toxicity."
