She's been gone just over two years now, and is missed and loved just as deeply now as ever. Shine on, you luminous soul. And thank you for the incalculable beauty you gave us.
Yes, thank you, thank you, Jessye! for giving your life to music and giving music to us.
We'll never forget you.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤@@Marcel_Audubon
And tomorrow the sun will shine again...
Rest in peace, Jessye Norman.
Richard Strauss must have heard her in his dreams, and wrote all of his fantastic songs just for her. Nobody else could, and can ever perform, sing and feel those most beautiful songs better than she could. Every time I hear it, I can’t stop both smiling and crying at the same time. It feels like the most fortune to ever been able to witness such Beauty by hearing this.
If something should happen that I never hear music ever again, I have heard this and and the memory of it will sustain me.
Jessye Norman, I thank God for you!
Well said.
Phillip Wilcher: Oh Phillip, we were so blessed to be on Earth with such greatness, weren’t we? She radiates a heavenly quality which is breathtaking. I weep.
@@e.conboy4286 Yes, we were and we still are. She leaves a legacy of such Light and Love.
Yes, this is extraordinary, but you must also hear Montserrat Caballe’s recording too, the two greatest renditions of Morgen.
@@MySensualWorld Thank you for the recommendation. I will search it out. I heard Dame Janet Baker sing it here in Sydney many years ago. It was very, very beautiful. Geoffrey Parsons accompanied her at the piano. The wore one another's artistry like a soft kid glove.
This..ladies and gentleman..is what a true DIVA is. No one can equal the voice of Ms. Norman..no one. She is truly a living treasure. =)
To sing "Morgen" one must be very delicate, but attentive. Jessye's timing here from beginning to end was precise! Brava, Jessye!
I am of the belief that singing Strauss was the reason for which Jesseye Norman was born! Ms. Norman is impressive singing MOST of the classical lit., however, Norman singing Strauss? Beyond, BEYOND! Always sheer perfection. And "yes" the violinist is also very much in his element.
She was simply a miracle. Vale, Jessye, and thank you for the music.
Impeccable German diction from a non-German singer, just as my friend Paul, from Berlin, once told me about Ms. Norman.
You are with all the great artists now. I love you.
RIP Jessye Norman. Such a great loss!
When Jessye Norman sings, the world listens. Brava, Jessye!
I would say at 3: 50 or there abouts, she's realized she has just given the most incomparably perfect performance of this most perfect song.
Yes sir...it was so obvious even the camera shook a little....🤗
As if sometimes nature mates with history and creates a unique piece of art. You were a star and a hope beacon in a very dark sky
I love the way that the violinist in the purple dress knows throughout that performance that she's part of something truly magical :)
Her beauty is beyond words.
She seemed perfectly blended with the orchestra, just another instrument.
Saw her at her Valentines day Concert featuring the best Jazz love songs in New York just a few years ago. This woman instantly ensnares an audience with her majestic aura the moment she walks on stage. She is the closest I've ever been to a queen.
So beautiful sleep well lady. Thank you so much
Reduces me to tears every time.
Fortunate enough to have seen her live on a few occasions, experiences I'll never forget. The moment she walks on to the stage you're under her spell.
Made me cry. This is a powerful rendition. So delicate and full of meaning.
what a voice, what a voice. RIP. a memory many years ago my parents went to the opera in new your city. Somehow my dad knew her manager. my parents were allowed to meet the diva after the opera. my dad who had lived in milan throughout his youth, was entrhalled by her voice and her person. i recall mom saying he kissed her hand and spoke to her in italian and of course she answered. much revered by all.
Jessye Norman was unique and só marvellously brilliant !
Goodbye my dear Jessye! R.I.P
On my first night at the opera she was standing 20 feet in front of me as Ariadne, the most powerful musical experience of my life
I have lived with the memory of this since first hearing it. It is what music making is all about. It is silence as a sound, that perfect stillness lived out through the measured motions of music. This performance is of another place, another time. It is the opening out of Eternity. An incomparably perfect moment exemplifying the breath of life beyond. Incredible!
I have just learned this piece. It is incredibly difficult to sing well. Jessye Norman was incomparable. So effortless, so still, so emotive. Silence as a sound says it all.
@@LeonieRogersAuthor Leonie, thank you for replying. Silence as sound, yes. As well does silence shape a sound. I would love to hear you sing Morgen if you are considering uploading here. I am sure it will be very beautiful. God bless!
Phillip Wilcher: Heavenly.
RIP Ms Norman. My Idol. Xxx
Bravo Miss Norman !!! She is absolutely fantastic.
Brava!
Das ist nicht von dieser Welt.. Unglaublich schön...
Maybe you should take your own advice. To God be the glory, but this music reminds us that he exists. Don't be jealous that God blessed Jessye Norman & the violinist with tremendous talent. There's nothing wrong with discussing how great these musicians are.
My eterneal queen how i miss you but i know you're singing to God..
i love her singing and acting so much!
...and if anyone is interested, truly wonderful playing from Maciej Rakowski... :-)
Laurence Jackson I was watching this just now, trying to work out the violinist, and found your comment! Hope you’re well! x
Yes it was beautiful violin playing from Maciej. I remember this performance well from my seat in the viola section.
Oh my....
This is four minutes and forty three seconds of time suspended.
She falters not once!
How - HOW - did she do it? How did the orchestra do it?
It exists and yet it does not. Every musician here has caught beauty on the wing as it just drifts by like the tail end of some fantastic dream.
I'm undone!
This surely must be one of the most satisfying moments in music ever.
How perfectly you put it, dear sir. No-one ever like her,.......
@@tishhill9561 Blessings! I will always, always love her!
The kind of music that elevated you to Nirvana. I believe her interpretations are on the same class and elevation with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's performance with George Szell. Thank You Jessye. Thank you VV 4 sharing.
i love the violin solo, great, beutifull, thanku
Such a wonderful, comforting song.
😢Rest in Love and Harmony your pure Gold Jessye 🧚🏽♀️
Jesseye you are music💜💜💜💜Rest in Love peacefully
I loved her. I always will.
The best rendition ever!!
Danke.
Regal, divine, the epitome of human expression!
My Ms.Norman.!..All that talent.
@CaptainWebb1512 God must have been in a good mood when Richard Strauss was born as well!! Her four last songs tear me apart every time. SO remarkable.
cause GOD gave her this voice!!!!
I'm in tears!
Majestic. Thank you so much.
Thank you Jessye Norman
really the excellent. The best recording of Morgen in orchestral version.
A magical voice !
what grace! what poise!
JUST THE TOP...EMOTION PURE!!!
Geweldig, geniet van Jessye Norman!
Simply unreal.
Wonderful!
@menahemb -- At the conclusion of the performance, Jessye Norman acknowledged the lead violinist and shared the applause with him. We got to see him briefly.
It was beautifully played. You could feel it. Watch her movement during the violin solo. She is obviously moved, no pun intended, by it.
THANK YOU !
Thank you, angel now.
incredible
Most beautiful voice!!!!
Bellissimo, grazie.
phew, glorious
God has nothing to do with it...just humanity at its very best, Jessye Norman, Strauss and the writer of the beautiful soothing words of the poem....and the violinist of course...beautiful people
God has everything to do with it.
And He, behind all things, the Great FIrst Mover, Creator, Designer, every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights, in whom is no darkness at all, but who inhabits Eternity and dwells in a the light that no man can approach. But HE has become EMMANUEL. God With Us. We could never, as created beings, forever bound in time and space exist where He is, touch Him, stand on the ground before him, so He came down to us in the very form of the creature He created, to dwell among us, His children.
Quoting fake ass scripture doesn't help prove your case.
Funny enough Madame Norman would disagree and mention God as a crucial staple from her childhood.
God is at least an expression of being human. Our freedom resides on the contingent.
@PhillipLWilcher -- Yes, she transports us to a place where all is beautiful and calm as we imagine life to be if only for a brief time. But we know the moment is real and we may return again.
Superb diction and phrasing even if slightly 'over-sung'. Norman is one of the truly great interpreters of Strauss lieder.
A pretty good translation:
And tomorrow the sun will shine again
And on the way which I shall follow
She will again unite us lucky ones
As all around us the earth breathes in the sun
Slowly, silently, we will climb down
To the wide beach and the blue waves
In silence, we will look in each other's eyes
And the mute stillness of happiness will sink upon us
a better translation:
The sun'll come out, tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar, that tomorrow
There'll be sun!
Just thinking about, tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs, and the sorrow
'Til there's none!
*Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow*
*You're always a day away*
Sound is not good. But i listen to this often. So i just fill my eyes with her gigantic Beauty ❤
The poem reads as follows:
Morgen![2]
Inmitten diesen sonnen atmenden Erde..... in remembrance of my my loved one...
LINDA!
DIVINA CANTATRICE,
she is just goddess.....
ADORO A JESSYE, LA AMO!
Definitive Live Performance !
Unfortunately, whoever uploaded the video set the volume way to low,
without realizing it,which makes it very difficult to enjoy listening to this exquisite performance of "Morgen".
Even with the sound turned up to 100,the max,I can only just hear it.
@PhillipLWilcher YES!! MAGIC!! love
Maravillosa perfecta
There are few classical singers that are instantly recognizable
Pavarotti is one, Jessye is that other one
Both are no longer with us. Both were amazing
They are my favorites
suteki! So beautiful voice!
Quisiera ver el concierto completo de 1990 gracias
very comfortable...
@earl0002: I looooved your comment to 89murph. Give God the GLORY!!!!!! They have no talent without Him!!!!!
😍😍😍😍😍
She was to Opera as Patti LaBelle is to R&B.
Diva...
Mio amore Jessye Norman
Goodbye Great Diva...
@menahemb
on the other hand this video is , as the title suggests, about Jessey Norman singing "Morgen" and not about the violin solo part in it
