When i was 17 in 2005, me and my friends always went there after school to hangout playing arcade games, snooker and sometimes we watched movies there. The good old times
Right! I have such good memories too, from when I first arrived in Kuching when I was 21 - watching movies there with my missus. I hope they renovate the place and make it nice again.
@GlobalGibbon yeah but i had one incident back in 2012, me and my gf at that time went to watch a movie and after the movie ends, i went back into my car and i realised my car had been broken into, someone took a box of my cigarettes and my second phone. I never want to park there anymore but that building could make a great place for restaurants.
Masa saya tinggal di Kch dahulu, memang almost setiap kali off day lepak sitok. Aktiviti utama, nanggar wayanglah. Sementara nungguk waktu tayangan, lepak dulok kat dibah . Isi perut dulok. Memang nostalgia benar tempat tok bagi kamek.
It was 1997, before my mom and I moved to Kuching in 2002. We came as tourist, stay at lodging house at Green Hill Rd, and spend most of our meal at Medan Pelita, where I remember was quite crowded, there's shops as well. It wasn't like what it is now.
Always wonder whats inside in those empty mall. Love this 'exploring' type of video & hope to see more from you Gibbon! haaa.. As my wife is from kuching, it always have a special place in my heart. Eating kolo mee in the morning, ABCs & 'lok lok' after lunch & walks around waterfront areas will always be my favourite things to do. Cant wait to be back Kuching next week!!!
Who agrees with me that this place should be renovate as a music venue for live concert? Or maybe a event centre to replace at the star cineplax? Yes i know is a creepy place. But who knows😅
I fully agree! I think a supermarket, some food places, some offices would be good. That would bring money into the building. Then some event space, concert hall perhaps, theatre. Great potential!
It seems this mall was a bright dan lively place. It is sad the mall closed and unused. In Surabaya, some malls are become almost like ghost place, so their management tries to convert the mall into co working places or rent them for churches.
Thanks for doing a video on this place Nick. I am from Kuching but living abroad, never stepped inside this mall in my life. What a pity that it is abandoned considering its very central location next to Green Hill and along Jalan Wayang. This mall, Riverside and Hock Lee Centre are all in the same boat. May good times and fortune return with some developer reviving this place again. Your restaurant is just a stone's throw away from this building I believe :D
Hey. Yea, our restaurant is just a one-minute walk. Over the past decade people have moved from visiting the city centre for entertainment to the suburbs, with many new hubs and malls opening up. Hopefully we get to see some rejuvenation downtown soon.
Revamp,...renovate,....reopen... whatever!..but we do need the parking space. It's so hard to get parking space in that area...would do good for everyone going there.
The last time I went to the cinema in that building was in 2011. Most of the building was already deserted at that time. The corner of the cinema was flooded, which was unbelievable. What type of movie was shown in this kind of cinema? It was a Hong Kong documentary about a team that claimed to have found Noah's Ark on Mount Ararat in Turkey.
Interesting! I used to go on Wednesdays, regularly, between 2011-2016. It was only RM5 per person! Sometimes we sat alone in the cinema, with some rats accompanying us🤣
Oh man.. I was looking forward to seeing the cinema. We used to watch movies there all the time. Btw, I think the Samariang Water Park would be a great place to explore next. Just an idea though..
Once of bigger food court at mall that time, all down floor stall selling food..also got jamming studio, the gate lock is going to the cineplex office actually...😂 and the other that lock is the projector room...i was work at that place once back at 2001

I think it was before 1997 because way back then, I used to skip class for an hour and hanging out with some buddies. I was form 5 back then in 1997. Hopefully the government will turn that place into something else.
@@GlobalGibbon let me recommend you a place nearby my former school. There was an old mansion hidden within thick bushes of Reservoir Park that is opposite St Thomas school building. Way back in 1994, my former teacher told me that house was once used by the Japanese army to torcher people.
Yes indeed. A lot of failed projects, or glory days that are gone. I find it especially sad when it’s buildings in prime areas. They have such potential.
Sarawak government do something please! Instead of useless buildings such as new archive centre, science centre and the old DUN 300 million plus upgrading..use it for city centre rejuvenation so that tourism activities will pick up tremendously and uplift the city's image of doom and gloom.
This place failed I think because of parking place problem..sometimes pple lazy to go places with difficult to park..it different in year 1990 to 2000 teenager still use bas..maybe can use it as event places for courses..and etc..inside ok already just outside appreaance need to change

What do you think about the changes to the Sarawak MM2H visa starting January 1, 2025? Deposit increase looks like it will exclude me. I apologize for changing the topic, this question is on my mind.
Great question! I don’t think any changes to the previous S-MM2H programme are necessary and good. I am planning to do a video about the new regulations soon.

Whenever I pass by this building, I always thought the same thing. Thanks Nick for the exposure.
I was there every weekend in 1998. It was nostalgic, so many things going on those good old days.
You should do this as a series, just like tokyo lens channel. Love to see the explorations of abandoned buildings in sarawak.
there's a lot of luminal spaces in Kuching and it's surrounding area. Places that is stuck in time, the 90s
I’m looking forward to explore more!

It's crazy how much things can change!
I miss this place. Arcade, place to hang out, cinema with great view and parking spaces. What more can you ask for
Thanks Nick. This video brings back memories. 😊
Glad it did! 😊
place where we lepak, dating, and watched cinema during old school days, dang...
Dulu bangunan tersebut didirikan 1960 ,1985 time Tu sekolah Di st Thomas school tenguk cereta top gun, panggung wayang rex tukar Nama Medan pelita
This was the place to watch movies back in the day. I remember when it sort got more popular than riverside. Now its dead, funny how things change.
Time is a funny thing right! Hopefully they fix it up soon.

Malaysia has many abandoned buildings. Recently I saw a vlog at rawang, jalan kemboja. Shocking. Same with langkawi or PD.

Alot of memories here

I agree that rejuvenating is a good way forward!
Not yet build this new building it was old buildings Theater Rex the first Jurassic park movie in 1992 years . I still remember full house
Thanks brings us Malaysian to unthinkable Sarawak. Sort of your bonus slot. I thouhght you do Ghost hunting too
At least it's now worth a RUclips video. Maybe some new companies will renovate the mall.
Ala carte before..... Medan pelita.... Yeah..... If not mistake.. 🤭...
Explore more abandoned places nick.
Please explore Miramar Plaza 😁
I’ll put it on my list!
watch The Avengers at the Cineplex in 2012, miss the old times

Used to be rex cinema which i remembered watching Jurassic park there😂
there used to be an arcade below
Instead of opening more new mall, just use the existing abandon mall. Kinda sad seeing place like this in the center of kuching 😢
I fully agree. We should promote repurposing of buildings, instead of building new ones.

It would make a good zombie mall-Laser Quest? I'm disappointed you didn't go there at night.
I might have to go back at night next time!
@ spooky Sarawak adventure!
Mall culture in Malaysia will undoubtedly be forgotten when it becomes outdated.😅
Maybe for arts photos display?
Great idea!
Its always the toilets or basement that is creepy, abandoned or not 😂

Nick... The section you called DVD shop is actually a book shop
Thank you😊
Aha! My bad! I had no idea😅 it reminded me of those DVD shops at Kenyalang and opposite Hilton.
Where is your restaurant?
85 Ewe Hai Street, just google JAK MA’AN CAFE. 😉
Nice space fr escape room ? 😂😂.
Good idea!
So sad to see the mall.
Let’s hope they repurpose it soon!
Sabah sarawak now not very well..local leader fighting each other for poweer..economy fall
Kenapa abandoned
Not enough revenue probably, no funds to renovate and upgrade. Mainly due to many new shopping malls in other locations outside the city centre.
Ada antu ka sia? Antu batu kali nk………..
I didn’t encounter any, but the building did feel restless.. 🫣
@ that place brings back lots of memories. Any Thomians & Marians of 2000 surely agree
And yes, we do heard few stories of spirits wondering there, but,…………..people are scarier than ghosts
Memories.
