Hey, wanna ask what u did to improve ur skills. Is it really just repeatedly hunting the monster and learning the moveset? or perhaps concentrating on the dodging/guarding without attacking?
All three. The more you put into the weapon (well, any of the weapons really), the more that you'll get out of it. With lance, it benefits heavily from knowing spacing, the pauses in enemy attacks, and its general moveset as it usually has an option for everything. Even focusing on one of those traits tends to end up sharpening the others.
The lance hero himself! At this point, I wouldn't mind it. Especially an elemental increase in damage, because it is under par. On another note, the song perfectly matches how I feel about fighting the twitch master, haha.
Your runs are seriously incredible. Quick question though, what makes you decide to run Safi set bonus vs standard 3 piece Teo? In your recent runs, you've been using Safi/Resentment, but in your Stygian Zinogre and Gold Rathian runs you didn't.
I got the proper jewels needed for the Safi/Resentment combo. I'm still missing a few for some other variations of optimal sets; but it feels good to have this set for now.
just a question about element matching with safi'jiiva weapons: I noticed that on the kirin run you posted the other day, you used a blast lance instead of a fire lance even though kirin's fire weakness should in theory be bigger. When I did the math given that you procced blast 4 times, I saw that you were right to run it over the fire lance (the element on the fire lance only gives around 6 extra damage per poke on kirin horn, which would take 200 pokes to match 4 blast procs), so I assumed that it was a result of the safi lances having low base element/status which naturally favors status weapons. However, on this run and on teostra, you're running an element lance. Teostra I can understand since he has terrible blast values, but what about ebony odo? How do you decide whether status or element lances are better- do you have an info site you use, or do you just do the testing yourself?
Ebony's face can't break off status lances; which lowers the amount of damage you can do. When broken, the hitzone gains 22 extra cutting damage, which is pretty significant. I did a lot of testing myself before I found said site. Sadly, most of my elemental testing ends up being "oh, I proc'd blast 4-5 times", and then I ditch said element. That and I math out the total amount of elemental damage in the course of a run.
@@KCGemini ok yeah 22 extra weakness to cutting damage is massive. Just to clarify, do you mean that blast procs don't do partbreak damage, but elemental damage does? If so, that's news to me but it's definitely useful information. That spreadsheet is definitely extremely useful, bookmarking that one for sure. Looks like the star levels in the in-game monster guide are reliable for status damage, despite not being reliable at all for elemental damage, which is at least useful to know. 40 initial/+20 per extra blast for 3 star weaknesses, 70 initial/+30 per extra blast for 2 star weaknesses, and 120 initial/+60 or +90 per extra blast for 1 star weaknesses. Awesome to know that for sure, now I can actually calculate blast damage instead of just guessing. EDIT: ok blast numbers are a bit more complicated than I thought, each star level of monster (e.g. kirin is a 5 star MR monster, ebony odo is a 4 star MR monster) has a different multiplier to the numbers I listed above, which means in practice every monster has slightly different blast numbers to the tune of 1.25-1.5x the initial value I wrote/ 2.0-2.5x the increase per additional blast I wrote. Definitely annoying for math, but still doable.
Most of them are chained counters, which can be done immediately after countering if your target wants to continue to attack you. A few of them are normal blocks because sometimes I was a bit slow at the draw or Ebony would continue going in whatever direction it wanted. On another note, I couldn't block any backflips/double claw attacks without heavy staggers due to using Guard 1. Guard 3 can help you block those in case you don't want to dodge them.
