Love the Lance! I picked it up a few months ago and I really like it. The defense is awesome but I also like keeping the heat on the monsters, never giving them a second to breathe. And I agree about the Guild Palace Lance, it looks like the weapon of a celebrated, heroic knight. It's also wild how easy it feels to break parts with it. Tails just fall right off! With other weapons, I feel like I have to try harder, with Lance it feels like an accident. Oops, there goes your tail! I also feel like it's a big departure from other weapons with its own movement style and rhythm. That's one of the amazing things about this game: the depth of gameplay and the fact that each weapon feels wholly unique. I'm stoked for Wilds but World is so good I don't mind the wait at all. Thanks for another excellent video, Dan!
Lance is the least used weapon, I think it's because until you get the hang of it seems clunky. Also it doesn't seem very flashy when watching guides or videos of it, which i think filters people over to the gunlance. But once you get into it, I think it's maybe the most satisfying and straight up badass weapon in the game. I feel like such a Chad, fearlessly running straight at monsters that earlier on I was terrified of 😂 So cool haha

Some extra notes i consider important for new lancers: *During charge attack:* *->* You can stop the charge and go directly into the block, by pressing the block button. *->* press forward+dodge button to jump without a ledge (great for getting mounts) *Animation cancels* (there are some things you *can't* do directly after you performed an attack): *->* Learn to use the clutch claw counter via counter thrust + left trigger (aka. slinger button), since unlike the other option (left trigger +high thrust button) this one can be used directly after you performed an attack *->* The normal block cant be used right after an attack, but all your counters can. You do *not* need to wait for your character to actually start blocking in order to use a counter. *->* Pretty much everything elses (outside of these 2 and the wide sweep attack) in lances kit can be used as an animation cancel after any attack and as a reset, to reset your triple poke combo. Do note however that "resets" that perform a lance attack usally count as the first hit of your triple poke combo. *Mobility options:* *->* Lance pretty much has no mobility option when it comes to dodging, you have to use the counters. *->* Lance's mobility when it comes to disengaging is also not great. Best option you have is a long back hop (backwards+dodge, *wich can only be done after you performed an attack* ) followd by a normal back hop, followed by another long back hop *->* Combined with slow sheathing speed and lance can have some major troubles when it comes to safety. My best advice here is: Try to use clutch claw counter and then press the dodge button to let go of the monster if you want to sheath the weapon, but the monster wont stop attacking you. *->* Lance has amazing aggressive mobility options though. Charge and clutch claw counter for engage and guard advance/guard dash (by pressing block + direction + forward thrust) +leaping thrust (by pressing high thrust) or hops (by pressing the direction + dodge button) for repositioning. *Counters (only as a rule of thumb, there are many exceptions)* *->* In general: you want to spent as much time hitting and as little time blocking as possible. Time your counters and offensive guard is a must have *->* Counter thrust is the only counter you can do after countering something=good for monster combo attacks like zinogres quadruple paw slam ->Power guard is the only counter that doesnt activate automatically after being hit and its stamina depletion actually stops when being hit = good for multi hit attacks (any monster attack that does multiple ticks of dammage) *->* Gurad advance gets extra gurad levels=good for power full single hit attacks *->* Clutch claw counter doesnt work against elemental attacks. It has a really long animation but also zooms you all the way to the monster= good for any monster attack where the monster ends up far away from you (like charge attacks) *->* Normal block is (almost) never your best option *health augemt is a must have* = no more sheathing, non stop attacking This is far from everything. Tried to make the inputs understandable regardless of controller choice. Also as a side note amongst the older community there is a realitivly large overlap between SnS and Lance players, so if you like one of these two weapons the other one might be worth checking out.
@@LightItUpDan yeah. If i remember corectly its tempered namielle that unlocks it, so its really late in the game. Its a very solid move that made me like lance and put it out of the category as slow/heavy weapon.
iirc, lance has a reduce multiplier for elemental damage for some reason, so it will deal less elemental damage then it should I love lance. the way you can basically ignore the monsters attack by guarding and keep up the aggression. seriously, it feels really good when you get into the flow of guarding every monster's attack and keep poking to submission. clutch claw counter feels SO good to pull off, one of the most satisfying move in the game. lance is really REALLY good for partbreak, since it has low damage per hit and it's really accurate. high thrust makes it pretty easy to reach high monster parts. I usually make it an extra goal to break all the monster's part when hunting, and most of the time I CAN break all the parts
If it had a flashier combo I would have mained it because I was a Fiona main in vindictus. It's one of best weapons when you don't want to bother learning monster moves you just guard for it rather than learning where you will be safe like the nergi fights.
