Something I really appreciate about your channel is the coverage of the European gaming market. As a fellow European, it is nice to hear about gaming history from our own region, rather than the constant American coverage on RUclips.

Interesting to see that the Mega-Tech included some Master System games, like Astro Warrior, Fantasy Zone, After Burner, etc., but I guess that would make sense since the SMS was still very popular in Europe. Also, very curious to see not just "Raynos", a.k.a. Assault Suit Leynos/Target Earth, on the "Coming Soon" list in that catalog, but also Psy-O-Blade, which never actually saw an official English release at all (but has since gotten an English fan translation).
That's cool. I wonder if there was an English version of Psy-O-Blade for the Mega-Tech despite it not being released for home consoles? If not, it would be amazing if they could create a unique replica cart for the Mega-Tech with the English fan translation.

Hey Neil, that was a bargain for sure, especially with the carts in there! I may be able to help you with the 10" monitor. Normally they'd have a Euro version of the MTC9000 in both monitors (green square connectors for power, rgb and degauss) like your other cab. This one seems to have a USA version 20" Hanty MTC9000 (clear Mate'N'Lok's for the power, rgb and degauss) and something that looks like a Kortek 10". The crt is original as the SEGA sticker is on there, it could be that the MTC9000 10" chassis went wrong and they swapped in a Kortek 10" chassis (most Kortek and Hanty chassis are the same electrically so the crts can be swapped between them (apart from the high impedance Korteks)). Or it could be that Sega/Deith had to source Kortek 10" monitors for a while. And also, it's not usual to find a Hanty with a replaced lopt, they do get a hammering from long hours (most arcade monitors have had the lopt replaced, more than once!) but I think I remember reading/hearing some time ago that back in the 90's I think Hanty had a problem for a while with some bad batches of lopts from the manufacturer, so not really their fault!

It looks like the unknown guy in the 'artwork' is from the Last Battle game. In the screenshot the character has the same or very similar colour scheme.

By a process of elimination, I think the mystery character is supposed to be Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, which is localised as Last Battle. He has the power to hit people in just the right place that causes their head to explode - graphically included in the Japanese version of the game, but sadly missing from Last Battle. Also, Neil looking great in full crime scene cleaner garb.
The burly man in that pamphlet is supposed to be kenshiro From fist of the North Star, Which was retitled last battle, and essentially reskinned from the anime game that was
Nice find. Definitely got a good deal there. Games alone are worth more than that as you said. That oily dust carpet probably acted like a protective coating 😆Can't wait to see how it looks after. Pity about the top crt, but there must be tv's out there in some other shape or form you can use.
This unit must have been used in a Chip shop or some fast food outlet years ago at some stage as you say. Nothing is greasier than a chippy. I can imagine customers pumping coins into it whilst waiting on their food. I did the same as a teenager whenever I encountered an arcade machine in a chip shop. Sometimes I would even visit a local chippy just to play a Rastan machine and not order food and also a squash club as they had a table top version of Scramble in the bar.
Since you don't know if you will do a full video on the other cabinet you have because it just needs a few stickers, you could just do those as youtube shorts. Either way I'm looking forward to more videos on this one getting restored.
So awesome you have not just one but 2 of this legendary Mega Drive hardware, they are certainly in the right hands as are those wonderful games! I’ve played one at mother museum, was so cool to enter cheats into Sonic 2 on an arcade machine! It’s good also that we can easily own this system and experience its games at home in the form of the Sega Mega Drive or see what a Mega Tech was like thanks to emulators! I wonder if a MiSTer variant could be created ☺️👍
Looking forward to seeing how this restoration goes. the game came out a few years before the manga got an english translation so it's understandable but yeah. i mean Black Belt, not Last Battle.
used to own one about 10 years ago, pretty fun!
Yet another awesome video. Looking forward to seeing the next stages for this. Keep up the awesome work. 👌🏻
I see you've got the very rare Aliexpress cart "Kid Chamelon"... :D
This is going to be such an awsome series, cant wait!
Fantastic episode! Your content is always quality! I have always wanted one.
That greasy dust is typical of a smoke/haze machine I bet this machine has been in some sort of disco or laser game center
as for the lock, I think that the lockpicking lawyer sells tool for that ;)
Since you don't know if you will do a full video on the other cabinet you have because it just needs a few stickers, you could just do those as youtube shorts. Either way I'm looking forward to more videos on this one getting restored.
That’s a fun idea!
Brilliant as usual and can't wait to see more. Great team
I'm guessing the trade show flyer art is what the person who did mastersystem box art moved onto next once that work dried up....
Love it! Can’t wait to see the rest of the series!
Really looking forward to seeing this repair!
That cabinet has seen things no cabinet should have to see
So awesome you have not just one but 2 of this legendary Mega Drive hardware, they are certainly in the right hands as are those wonderful games!
Can’t wait to see the progress.
I'll keep my Eyes open for a 10 inch CRT, Trinitron mega base is all i can see on Ebay uk.
Looking forward to seeing how this restoration goes. Would that be one of the MegaTech brochures I gave to Alex? 😉 I'd forgotten about those cartoonish characters 😃 Hadn't heard Hantarex in years, bought back memories of their adverts in the arcade trade press back in the 90s and their stands at the annual arcade shows like the ATEI.
Yes David! That’s the pamphlet you kindly donated when we did the retro road trip! Nice to see it united with the actual cabinet
