I am from Spartanburg, SC and grew up with the Marshall Tucker Boys and am a musician myself. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to this rendition of this song. I know Toy would love this heartfelt cover of his song. I loved it.
i remember seeing matt playing in a bar in vancouver in the late 90's , he said he wouldn't play this song anymore..so glad he changed his minnd. I have always preferred his version .. :
Inverness, cape breton...at the horse track betting hall ..$2.oo to see matt playing a teen dance. Cant you see was played to a full dance floor of under 20's It was the greatest...they played every where to all ages! (1975+)
couple years ago pugwash harbour canada day firewoks nite brought the kids down to see them sore back and pounding head ache ,i give them a few bucks sent them out to the carnival rides parked the car under a shade tree at the funeral home facing the harbour ,put the seat back and rolled the windows down to let the sea breeze through and fell a sleep next thing i know i wake up to the band playing on the main stage and half asleep "i know that voice singing about dorchester ", man what a feeling listen to a few more songs without lifting my head just enjoying the moment the sun had gone down the headache was gone it was like it was all right with the world and as i was deciding to get up to wander down to the stage to see mat cant you see started up and the gift he has of pulling you into the moment of the story in the song i just let the music roll over me with the cool evening sea breeze as i was remebering the jobs the travels the loves the song was building for a grand finnish when kaboom the fireworks went off and killed the show that my friends has been the story of my life
I grew up in Saint John N.B. Until I left for Toronto. Always always loved this song by Matt but found this version this evening and WOW best I’ve heard!! Hope my neighbours like it Lolol I took a train from down home when I left for the big city. Wish I saw this performance it would have rocked!! Can’t you see, Can’t you…
Yeah, that's not right. Here is a rare playlist of ONE-OF-A-KIND live recordings of the different incarnations of the band by the great Bill Boutilier, sound tech extraordinaire, that you will never hear anywhere else. Mostly recorded at the Misty Moon Showbar and Grill in 1981 and 1982. Enjoy! ruclips.net/p/PL5zm1rsvRT3oLLeYkbo5pRdhn7MGImDKx&si=ROj-T-uPWr3tORBN
I heard this played in 3 Misty Moons, The Matador, The Crazy Horse, Lucifer's, The Shore Club, The Halifax Forum, The Windsor Exhibition, The Wyse Owl, The Citadel Hill Natal Day concert and a million other venues. I've done both sound and lighting for the band and together with two friends, helped Matt and his drummer polish off a barrel of beer after a show at the Windsor Ex when we should have been striking. LOL
The Legend working his magic. I've seen Matt over 20 times since 1978, be it a small club only half full , midweek in cold Feburary month, in Gander NL, or opening for the Eagles at the Salmon Festival in GrandFallls Windsor NL. He always put 110% into every performance I've ever seen do. Rock on Matt, from downtown Porterville.
Wow, that was great! I wanted to play it really loud but my wife was sleeping in the other room. I grew up in PEI, and I think that I saw Matt somewhere @ 1980 and a few times after that. He was always great, and this song, and Caledonia, were big favorites of my friends. I live in Los Angeles now, and I expect that he will never be on tour down here, but hopefully, sometime in the future, I can see him in Halifax, or somewhere in the neighborhood!
Great little music from East to West great blues. For this there great great places to visit beautiful memories ❤️ Nova Scotia hidden gems quiet places beautiful to visit come just to see and a very nice tour places to go to Canadian money accepted.😄
What a terrific cover version of this great Toy Caldwell song... Damn, im from Germany amd went to Novia Scotia for 2 weeks trip, wish id known about Matt Minglewood back then....
I'll take the word have you I seen you at teezers in Amherst Nova Scotia you're a good guy and you can play in love K brightness especially the Cape Breton miners love you too buddy keep rocking
Awesome........I met a beautiful woman I believe from Cape Breton or Antigonish Nova Scotia ....Mary Magee... I have the Minglewood Band in my vehicles for over forty years now';) I was blessed twice....much love stay safe
The first time I heard this song was in 1978 or 1979 at the Iceland Arena in Montague, PEI. I have been a big fan ever since. My most memorable time hearing this song was in 1981 at the Alberta Jam in Calgary. The outdoor venue was covered in NS flags. Matt did 'Farewell to Nova Scotia' as an encore, and the place went nuts.
In Grande Cache Alberta he played in a bar only 26 people showed up but my room mate Matt used to babysit him he came to my place and we had over 200 people there
I just heard that Matt has lost the use of one of his eyes In a freak accident in the garden. I am so sorry to hear this and wish him a speedy recovery. God bless you
Can’t even say how many different incarnations I’ve heard of Matt’s Iteration of this song , no reinvention , I’ve had the privilege to hear live , over the years , many of which have had the random , but brilliant voices of Pam Marsh , Wayne Nicholson, Sam Moon , and many more, and god only knows how many gifted instrumentalists , and probably hundreds which were preluded by my beloved late partner, Lee Stanley’s distinctive Southern drawl , as tour manager, in the dressing room , of “it’s show time “ , but this one is new to me and brilliantly executed...,I mean , Marshall Tucker Band ,,,could they possibly have imagined...no , no , no ...it’s started out as okay...ish ...tune ,,but , OMG ,,, just continues to be elevated ...by Matt’s interpretation, and , clearly, the generations he’s had the musical genius to lift keep lifting this song with ...so fantastic
A comment on Marshall Tuckers performance on this song brought me here. Minglewwood does the song justice however the flute from the original is sorely missed.

Irish Bob I loved Enver. Saw him at the moon every time they played. I use to roll him big hash joints and he would tell me he always rerolled them and would get three. The night they signed with RCA was a hell of a party!
He's great. But the best ? Too many great capers came out of that island to call him the best I wouldn't go that far but he's right there in the top group
This guy is giving it everything he's got.
Love this performance. Just brilliant!!

Yep it’s a theme song of Cape Breton Island!
Especially if you need a good cry!

Absolutely awesome listening from Alberta. Bridging back great memories ❤
The finest singer songwriter, best guitar player, by far the best and hardest working entertainer Canada has ever produced.

Love my capers and my hard working family
This is one of the most moving and chilling songs I have ever heard.... where I'm at tonight
The piano is so underrated in this beauty of a song. Its all about the piano i think! Lol.
100%. That and the rhythm section of bass and drums. What a great Cape Breton take on Southern Rock this song is.
I've listened to this for the 100th time. This song is all about the piano.
I saw them in North Sydney in 1980 and i finished in jail after the show because of the RCMP too stupid . They played that song very well...
I live in cap breton i love matt this is our song for home
SUPER NOVA SCOTIAN !!!!

This is a great mash up of Southern Rock and Cape Breton music. It's almost chilling.
Fiddle and accordion in this is just perfect.
WOW!!!!!!! From a Caper to a Caper
This song is good therapy for a transplanted Bluenoser.
❤
RAW TALENT
Still great as can be.
A comment on Marshall Tuckers performance on this song brought me here. Minglewwood does the song justice however the flute from the original is sorely missed.
