In 2012 I was playing James' first album and my dad who was 80 years at the time came into the room and and asked (in spanish, 'cause we are mexican and live in Mexico): "Who is this playing? I like it. It's free jazz, but newer. It's really good." And proceeded to stay to llisten to the rest of the album. RIP dad
RIP to your padre!
I’ve been dying to see James walk through a project since 2011. Wild to see at this juncture.
There’s not nearly enough footage of this man in his natural habitat. i.e. his studio 😅😂
..seriously though lol
This is the best music podcast out there and it's not even CLOSE! Thank you so much for this!
Glad you're enjoying!
This. Is the content. I'm looking for. Thank you!
Thank YOU!
@@TapeNotesPodcast so great. REALLY REALLY cool to be able to see James talk about his stuff AND see his screen. That alone is such a cool insight.
My God, James Blake offcuts straight out of the DAW. How I'm going to sample them. Oh, oh my.
could you please elaborate? I want to understand what you said
He said he's going to walk the dog around the house a couple times before going for a jog to the supermarket to see Apu and get a slurpie "come again" Apu whispers as I grasp the hot dog so tightly it flies out the window but luckily my bird friend caught it and flew back to the treehouse where he was greeted by the squirrel gang which all started singing hymns as the bird pecked away at the hot dog to make perfect segments, then by the grace of god tony soprano appeared with a bunch of weed and that's where the story began@@huimo4886
Another awesome interview! We're proud to be supporting this excellent podcast, and are huge fans of James' music
We love your plugins! 🙌
Brilliant tune that caught my attention a while ago! Great to see how it was made.
Glad you enjoyed it!
James Blake-always an inspiration
finally!!!!!! thank you for having James on.
You're welcome! He's great
a real genius man. LOVE THIS GUY 🥺🤲🏾🐐✨🫂
I can't believe I'm seeing this. thank you so much for this kind of content
You're welcome. Glad you enjoy it!
Really enjoyed the workflow breakdown of a talented musician and your use of and explanation of modular. I can lose myself for hours in my modular set up and end up with a full on live performance of something I initially had no intention of creating! The machine almost tells us what it's going to do, we just tweak it to prevent in sounding like bird noise lol. As soon as it hits that 'yes' moment I hit record and try and get a demo out on RUclips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a treat!
YESSSS thank you
Lowkey the hans zimmer of music production, and his collabs testify and prove it. So well wanted, very intelligent
Insight right there
Great this
Even James Blake just fucks around and finds out.
James is amazing
Isn't he just
PLEASE DO MORE WITH HIM
This is helpful
Slaps 💥
That was inspiring
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
4:13 😂😂 look at his face
I dont think Blake knows how interesting this is. He left us last interview with the sentiment of "I spent all this time and money on modular and got nothing out" and now we get a completely different perspective. Both Blake interviews are extremely interesting, informative and entertaining. I could listen to him talking about this process and thoughts on music for many episodes.
good chat lads
You deserve better headphones than that, James!
Thank you for over a decade of incredible music.
I don't know how people deal with those headphones. Worst I've ever listened to
wow an advert i'm actually interested in... if it's reliable enough for live performance!
so interesting! I noticed the modular jam isn't clocked to Logic...its free -running. He must find the jam's tempo afterwards and builds the song around that tempo. I am assuming..
That’s the way I do it.
Fine to not clock simple dry stuff that's gonna get chopped up anyway, but needed for anything longer running especially with effects built in. I perform whole sets on modular with maybe some pads and melodies triggered through Ableton Push so always have everything fully clocked with reset on everything too.

"Modular Synth it's a bit like Modern Art in a way [...] There's more a sense of curating something coming in, rather than actually compose it like you would at the piano or whatever "
I would pay so much money to just sit a session with him
C what? Which C? Berhain have sub 30hz not sub 20 capability just FYI. Around 28hz is as low as it goes. But I think most tracks are mastered for around 30hz there.
C1 - 32hz

Really sucks you guys decided to lock the rest of this podcast video behind a paywall on patreon. We’re already watching your stupid ADs, how many times do you want us to pay for something that should be free in the first place 😤
Definitely a socialist democrat 😂
@@anonymous_friend this is not a new concept, I can’t even think of one other podcast you have to pay to listen. James is sharing with us great knowledge and this dork is gate keeping it with a paywall.
@@wither2654 Capitalism baby! Love it or leave it!
the rest of the audio is on Spotify! fair enough to keep something to make some $$$. or pay for a month and get all the vids then unsub idk
