Thanks so much for your videos! I had a cracked fiberglass tub and tried to schedule service but no one was available to get me in for months. So I watched your videos and it gave me the confidence to just tackle it myself. I just finished and it looks fantastic! I would definitely have hired a pro if one was available in my area sooner, but it didn't work out for me! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! You definitely helped me and I was in a bind!!! Wishing you much success in your business.
I'm about to fix a crack but in the contour of where the sides meet. My question is how do I keep the resin from running down the tub AND do I just use a plastic mixing bowl to mix putty/hardener ? My 1st question is the one I'm unsure of and need advice please.
@@DPTubs thank you. What surface would I use to mix the final putty/hardener; hard to tell on video if your using cardboard or something else. Thanks again
Hey I didn’t check before drilling the holes and I drilled them a few mm’s away from the crack. Will this be okay? Or did I well and truly screw it up? 😅
I have a one piece tub/shower that has 2 hairline cracks in the floor (not visible unless you apply pressure next to them. The floor does not appear to have any padding/foam. I have access to look under the unit and it looks like fiberglass. It looks like there are a couple of reinforced areas that look like joists covered in fiberglass. I believe that both cracks are very close to the joists. I can put foam into the space below the tub from the bottom or should I still drill holes in the shower floor. Thanks for the list of materials used, this will be very helpful. The color of the unit is almond and I believe that you mentioned a different supplier for a colored finish other than white.
What kind of primer did you use and would you recommend Tough as Tile to finish it? I usually use tough as time but I don't normally use primer first. Haven't had any issues without out it though.
I got several new tubs & shower bases(free)with tiny cracks from an apartment construction site last friday, im taking a piece of the nailing flange to paint store for professional advice on restoring the proper finish, i have 1-sold for $200
Great video. My tub floor is textured and it’s not so much a crack as a puncture from a nail coming up from under. Is the process the same and what do I do about the texture?
Once repaired the patched area is smooth from sanding. However you can get an anti slip coating that will give it some texture but it may not match 100%z
Ummm question, ...what about the squishy problem that's underneath the holes you patched up? Great job btw. You have just saved us from using date night funds on a "handy man" to repair our problem. Thank you for thaaaaat. Can't wait to try it.
Got a question for you, and as soon as you can reply please do so. Can use use some drywall fiberglass to reinforce that seam since drywall fiberglass is much stronger. I have used the mat and its not that strong to me and I'm thinking of using it on my next tub repair. I shot some foam in one im working on now and I tell ya with the tub design they got foam on the perimeter of the tuband the installers didn't even pour a base under the tub. I tried foaming it and everything but will let you know the outcome!
Hey buddy thanks for sharing your wisdom w us 🙌🏾🙌🏾! I have a question , can this same process be on on Acrylic , fiberglass Shower Base? First time I didn’t use fiberglass mat cuz was a thin 2 inch crack buttttt looks like crack started running again ..😩😩 lol! Have to re-do it tho recommend doing this?
Is the reason of using All purpose putty is to smooth the surface of the resin ? or there is any other function it does?. The tub crack i am repairing is not big and i did not use Bondo Hair, just used resin and mat. After sanding the resin it came out smooth and nice so i am wondering if i can prime it and paint it without using Body filler if it is not necessary. Thanks for your help
I love your videos and you have given me confidence to fix my shower. However, I wonder if my shower needs more work than you've done on your channel. Are you perchance available to to video consultation? I'd pay you to tell me what I need to do to fix my shower. Let me know. THANKS!
Do you have to paint the bondo or would primer be enough or is it all just purely cosmetic at that point? I am repairing my personal tub and don't care what it looks like as long as it functions and holds up. I'm just trying to shave off $100 on paint and primer if able.
This is a late4 answer to y our question. Primer is just that. it primes the surface and gives the topcoat a good adhesion surface. You still need to topcoat it.
Can someone tell me please if that "HIGH BOND FILLER" is the same as "BONDO GLASS" He used in other video, and what is it for ? (I am not from America and in my country this products will have a different name)
No two different fillers. Bondo glass has short strand fiberglass “hairs” and does not apply smooth. High performance filler apples smooth and is “lighter” to sand. I generally apply bondo glass first and skim smooth with the high performance
Anyone have a total parts list? I actually already spray foamed mine underneath but need to know exact parts need to complete, sand paper and all pleaseee
Hi love your videos! Getting ready for a diy project for my bathtub. If there is no give on the crack, would you still put the foam to fill the holes “just in case”? Also I noticed in some of your videos you use “high bond” vs “all purpose bondo” vs “bondo glass”, how do we know when to use which? Thanks!
It depends on the strength needed. Fluctuation: Foam, mat resin, bondo glass, high performance No fluctuation but thick crack Mat resin, bondo glass, high performance Hairline crack / no fluctuation Bondo glass / Bondo (All-purpose or High performance) High performance for me is to smoothen and fill in divots in the bondo glass or all purpose putty. All purpose bondo is more for needing a thicker coat over the bondo glass I hope this helps
Yeah you're right. You can go buy a new tub and snap your fingers to remove it, remove the plumbing, repair paint and drywall, install new (hoping the plumbing lines up), install plumbing fixtures back on.
I'd suggest editing the title with hairline as I would have found this easier. I wasn't sure if the same process would apply with a big crack as one that's hairline. Great stuff btw

Whats a substitute for the bindo all purpose putty? No longer available...in california
Just wonder what kind of spray paint you use? Thanks
Another FANTASTIC job Danny!

Apply it with a brush and brush out any runs

My tub is Acrylic, not fiberglass, will this method work??
Will this work better for a hairline crack? Want to repair it before it gets big.

Maybe a couple cans of stabilizing foam.
Craftsman tools are the best lol and love your DIY videos
How can I tell whether the tub is Acrylic or Fiberglass?
you should help us by giving the list of items to buy to fix the tub, please.
I have done so in my more recent videos, in the comments, and in my communities tab. I will get better at it
That looks so much better! And you make it look so easy! 😁
Amazing restoration

Thanks for these videos. I've apparently ate too much at Christmas and cracked my tub 😄 Going to try this tomorrow. Happy holidays bro!

You can primer and paint. I just like to skim it to make sure edges are feathered smoothly.
@@DPTubs Thank you so much
can i use this same method on a acrylic tub
Yes
My tub is not white. What brand of primer was that? Does Krylon tub and tile come in bone or light beige/cream color??
No it does not! If you want bone or cream color I would recommend Midwest Chemicals or Resurface Solutions
Primer is Zinser 1-2-3
Great job!
Can I ask what paint did you use?
Thanks for considering my question.
Krylon Tub and Tile
@@DPTubs This method works on a cracked plastic bathtub???

So glad for this vid. Thought I was bout to have to spend some major bucks.
I think I overfilled mine, since after I added the foam, the shower floor is raised in the area of the crack.
Yes thank you I have fiberglass lion statues in my yard that are cracking so gping to try this method on them
I would like to send you a picture to verify what my shower tub is and get a parts list for this repair. How can I communicate with you?

Home Depot or Lowe’s

@@DPTubs thanks a lot !
Thanks soooo much for the tutorial!!! Really helped me out
How much would that cost to have it done?
How long would it take to be able to shower in it after it's done? Like a day or 3?
48 hours once it is sprayed
Anyone have a total parts list? I actually already spray foamed mine underneath but need to know exact parts need to complete, sand paper and all pleaseee
Just get the bondo fiberglass repair kit
Can this same process to include the fiberglass mat be done to a plastic bath tub (floor area) ?
did you ever get a reply? I have same question

It depends on the strength needed.
Fluctuation:
Foam, mat resin, bondo glass, high performance
No fluctuation but thick crack
Mat resin, bondo glass, high performance
Hairline crack / no fluctuation
Bondo glass / Bondo (All-purpose or High performance)
High performance for me is to smoothen and fill in divots in the bondo glass or all purpose putty.
All purpose bondo is more for needing a thicker coat over the bondo glass
