I am a veteran enlisted man, I have worked for outstanding female leaders while serving, in fact most all my leaders, male or female were of top caliber, I served in the Air Force, however a Commander of any unit has a very difficult job. To make four star Admiral is an achievement equaled by only a few. She seems to be able to listen much before making judgements, or issuing orders that can be deadly for those under her command! The Navy has done well in promoting her to Admiral!
I gotta say she is by far one of the most truly inspiring women alive today. She's the First Female Graduate of the US Naval Academy selected for Flag Rank, the First woman to command US Naval Forces Europe and US Naval Forces Africa, the first Female 4 star Admiral in the US Navy, and upon her promotion as the first Female Vice Chief of Naval Operations she became the highest ranking African American in US Navy History and the Highest Ranking Woman in the history of The US Armed Forces. She truly is an inspiration for any woman and any person of color who wants to go into the military and I think she should get a lot more recognition for not only being a great sailor but for breaking down those barriers for all the future people and that is pretty amazing.
An operational command post (Ship Captain) is far from political because of its critical point-of-impact nature. She’s proven her abilities through the adversities she’s overcome and the milestones she’s achieved. Good job!
*****, I agree that there were some who had that agenda in mind but the command position was the make or break moment and if she was a total soup sandwich a Michael Moore as president wouldn't even be able to justify her new post among the crowd of capable candidates.

I had no idea she was involved in trying to retrieve Captain Phillips from the pirate and boat hijacking after just a few days of starting the position. I was joined the Navy the year this happened.This is so impressive that a woman in a leadership role handled such heavy burdens.
Being a leader in the military these days is like being part of the board. It's more of a business than a military.

Why was she not mentioned in the Captain Phillips movie? This is just like when the black cop was not mentioned in the World Trade Center movie. Hollywood sucks!
If you watch closely she was voiced in the movie and introduced herself as Admiral Howard.
