    I met LTG West in Heidelberg, Germany and I was honored by how much she valued my opinion despite my being younger and many ranks junior to her. She was board certified in both Family Medicine and Dermatology, yet the Army recognized that they needed her skills as a senior leader even more than her clinical skills. I would love to work with her more.

    • @tdgdbs1
      @tdgdbs1 5 лет назад +1

      She visited our burn unit at SAMMC, very approachable and make you feel at ease. Her clinical skill is kind of rusty but leadership is top notch.

    • @elliottt.yamamoto4473
      @elliottt.yamamoto4473 4 года назад +1

      @@tdgdbs1 That is always an issue moving up to the top, the hands on gets rusty. That goes with anything in life. What I see is that she encourages others. That is huge for a young person. I remember a story about Jesse Owens telling a young man he could do it; and he did, won an Olympic Gold. As I recall Owens did it at least two more times. And they were not black athletes. We should all do the same, always encourage. The military does it the other way: try to weed out the weak. Did not work with this featured surgeon general, which is what the army wanted in the first place: reverse encouragement.

    This gives me so much joy. I was adopted from foster care when I was 18 years old. I'm leaving my dream job of working with teens in foster care job to go back to school for a law degree. Every day I wake up and work hard so that the next generation of young women in foster care get to tell success stories like this one. With Trump in Office, in the middle of one of the most broken foster systems in America (Texas), young people NEED more stories like this to remind them of their infinite strength. I hope some day our Country realizes that Foster Care IS a national issue. I hope that next election, we can all take a moment on BOTH sides of the aisle to recognize that a broken foster system ANYWHERE is an affront to American values EVERYWHERE. With all due respect to this woman's story, I hope that some day every orphan and EVERY foster child leaves the system fully prepared to realize their own God-Given talents. Until that happens, success stories like these, while they are SO worthy of being uplifted, run the risk of drowning out the hundreds of thousands of stories of heartbreak, loss, and the failure of our systems to protect these kids. We need to hear those stories too.

If you can, I would definitely try to represent children in the foster system and children and bad situations that need good strong attorneys to help them. Be a voice for the victims, for the weak, for the poor and for the needy. Do great work and happiness and fulfillment will always follow. I’m sending you lots love, and never doubt yourself you’ll get to where you want to be if you always keep working hard!

      nemo227 i made the comment based on my countey and usa,which i am residing in right now. there is,whether you like it or not,sexism in usa. good example,in netherlands, the man and woman are ""EQUALLY" responsible for birth control. i don't see that in usa. another thing i see is violence against woman is more prevalent in usa than netherlands. turn a blind eye all you want;no wonder usa has these priblems that still persist. does Netherlands have problems? of course we do. i love this woman and i think she is an EXCELLENT role model. i don't know if i am that strong. i believe her story....what is your problem with her? she is beautiful and smart and believable

    As a former Army medic, being in uniform, everyone was treated equal. There was no race, gender or background that came into play. But in the civilian world, the first year of my employment, I immediately noticed the discrimination, the underhanded segregation and off comments. I felt betrayed and disappointed. Is this the type of country that I swore to protect and defend? Is this what it came to be? I loved the camaraderie and brotherhood and sisterhood of the Army. I so wanted to go back. Those of us who have served know that it is the people we've had the privilege of meeting that kept us going. I pray that, one day, the civilian world wont be so divided and come together as one just like the Army has for me.

    What an impressive woman. She's done all, West Point and Medical School. But I am most impressed with how unimpressed she is with herself. Her warmth while interacting with Cadets was so powerful.

    What an INCREDIBLE Story of hope, inspiration, and a "can do" attitude. Sometimes all it takes is one person to truly believe in you.

    As a retired USAF Senior NCO, I really hated hearing that .."you know he/she only got promoted because" .... I may be naive but I'd like to think people get promoted because they earned it. Congratulations, General ... hopefully another star in your future.

    I long for the day when the content of one's character is all that matters. For all her accolades, LTG West's devotion to this country, the men/women who served under her, and the proud tradition of her family's service reflects her character.

    The race-baiters that claim America is racist should watch this. She proves that hard work and commitment pays off. Inspiring lady, all Americans should be proud of her.
