I totally agree that the Beavercraft detail knife (the C15) is a fantastic bargain for a very high quality knife. I have quite a few of them and it is my most used knife by far. It's nice to have a few ready to go, and if someone wants to join me (around a campfire for example) I feel a lot better handing them a good quality knife that I won't cry about if it's lost or damaged. I also feel better about modifying this knife - even thinning the blade for example - without worrying too much. I like the larger version of this knife too - I think they call it a roughing knife. They have a set with the C15, the roughing knife, a chip carving knife, tool roll, strop and compound for something like $35. Seriously you just can't go wrong.
I'd like to suggest you put their name in the title of this video. They are worthy of recognition as a quality brand that is also a good deal (rather than "budget set"). They also put out a ton of content for carvers - literally hundreds of free patterns and follow along videos. Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I am promoting them, I have no affiliation. I'm just a fan.

Flat blade going into a open round hold in the handle. The blade on mine started coming out of the handle after about a half hour of use. Will have to fill in the hole with something, which is what they probably should have done.

As you know, I want Beaver Craft to thicken their handles. Any clarver can trim
    Their own handles ti fit.
Everyone can't be comfortable with same handles and it's easier to trim away thickness than to add thickness.
Conclusion that knife for carving should be thicker than average and let us trim to fit.
Good steel is what I desire when I'm shopping knives.
Thanks, Alex, and overall, they look great

The detail knife is incredible. I pick it up as often as I pick up my drake.

I use straight knives mostly, I upsweep now and then. I have a couple of beaver craft knives. Good knives. Handles are small which could be good for smart hands.
Occt are my go to knives overall

I really appreciated this video. I have always enjoys the BeaverCraft tools I have. It just seems that there is a lot of hate out there. I just feel that if a lower cost gets someone into carving, what’s the problem with that. Plus they really are decent tools.

Nice review Alec ..Beavercraft is what I call a sub par knife ..as far as for beginners they are excellent ..Iam not a fan of upsweep knives ..Iam a straight blade carving person ..But thanks for the lesson

Gene - I'm a huge fan of your carving videos and have learned so much from you. I remember when I saw the knife set that Beavercraft sent you to check out that I thought it was an odd choice. I don't disagree with your assessment of the knives they sent you, but they do have straight blade carving knives that I think are excellent and worth another look should you ever get a chance. I mentioned in my comment to Alex that I also love what this company provides the carving community with free videos and hundreds of free carving patterns.

@@robert.santore Thank you Robert for watching my videos ..Appreciate that so much ..The Beavercraft line of carving tools are good tools ..I have one of the straight blade knives and used one in a recent carving video Redefining Another Odie ..Durning that video the tip of the knife broke and I had to reshape it with no problem ....Beaver Craft is a company dedicated to carving teaching ..They are helpful and good for beginners ..But still compared to Helvie ..A Ron Wells I have or even OCCT ...They are sub parr to these brands and good for beginners to start ..but I dont feel they are a superior knife to these brands ..especially in the steel and the handle shape..Happy Carving
