"The Gamecube was less powerful than the PS2". I can't trust anyone that ignorant, the GC could output 12-20 million polygon per second games with all effects running (of which it did more of and more advanced versions of), the PS2 could output 3 million. Get your facts straight before putting them into a video. The PS2's success wasn't about power it was initially because it was the cheapest DVD player on the market while being a console slightly stronger than the Dreamcast. Oh, and another inaccurate "fact" you made was about the PS1, the Saturn came out first, only by a couple of weeks but it was first.
Here some "facts" for you. When the PS2 launched, the cheapest DVD player was priced at $300, the same as the console itself. By 2002, standalone DVD players dropped to $100, and by 2005, they were available for $40. At this point, the PS2's appeal as an affordable DVD player was no longer relevant, yet it remained highly successful due to its dominance as a gaming console. The Nintendo GameCube was powerful, but the Xbox was significantly stronger and also outsold it. However, both lagged far behind the PS2, which dominated its generation by an enormous margin. Even the PS3, considered Sony's weakest console, still sold roughly four times more units than the GameCube. Today, only Sony and Microsoft remain active in the traditional console market. Nintendo exited this space in 2017, following the failure of the Wii U, and has since focused exclusively on handheld devices like the Switch. The Switch is not a traditional home console but a hybrid device, similar to the Sega Game Gear, which could also connect to a TV via a tuner. The PS5 has so far sold three times more units than the current Xbox. It is estimated that the PS5 will reach 170 million units sold by 2030, as Sony consoles typically have a production lifespan of 9 to 12 years. This demonstrates Sony's continued dominance in the traditional console market, unlike Nintendo and Microsoft. Nintendo, however, remains the clear leader in the handheld sector. Nintendo entered the console market in 1977 with the Color TV-Game series and has sold around 282 million home consoles to date. Sony, which entered in 1994 with the PlayStation, has sold over 524 million home consoles-despite entering the market 18 years later. Despite Nintendo's strength in handhelds, Sony's PSP outsold the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and Nintendo 3DS. Sony's weak points were the PS3 in its early years and the PS Vita, while Nintendo endured multiple flops, including the N64, GameCube, Wii U, Virtual Boy, and Game Boy Color. Microsoft, on the other hand, has had only one major success with the Xbox 360 in its entire console history.
This its data for a world wide user standpoint, still to this day in third world countries, india, etc the ps2 its and will be the most bought console bcs of piracy, both the ps1 and ps2 where top selling bcs of that, no one cares about the dvd.
@@deckzone3000 That’s my text, all written by myself. I know, as a 10-year-old child, this may seem hard to believe, but everything I’ve written is the truth. Sony has been the only brand to perform decently in the last 10 years when it comes to real home consoles, outperforming Xbox by a ratio of 4:1. Nintendo, on the other hand, no longer offers any pure home consoles.
I recall my parents bringing home Pong around 1978, played Intellivision in 82/83, and still game on PC and PS5 today. Watching the evolution of this industry has been a fascinating journey.

I wonder if the multitude of Atari 2600 mini units (Flashbacks, etc.) that have been released over the last 20 years could be factored in? Just to see how many Atari 2600 compatible units are out there nearly 50 years after it's release.
And unlike what he implied, the 3DS came out before the Wii U, and was a failure before Nintendo slashed the price and offered free goodies for those that bought it early on

Phones will *replace* handhelds? Sir, it is clear you have not done your research. While it is true that phones are very powerful and will only continue to gain power, the lack of physical controls (i.e. dpad, sticks, buttons) will ensure that phones will *never* replace handhelds. While you can certainly buy physical controller add-ons for phones (and many people go that route), the retro handheld market is recently experiencing an explosion in popularity. You can buy a great retro handheld that plays thousands of great retro games for a fraction of the cost of a modern smart phone.
Forever is a lot longer than you think, and claims of "never" are oft the most poorly aged statements in history. Phones will very likely have 3d holographic haptic interface controllers that you can project wherever you want them. Possibly even in Gen Alpha's lifetime. The precursors for this tech are already in development.
I’d love to know where many of these numbers came from as my sources site different in some parts however I could just be very wrong. Commodore 64 was at least 12.5 million to possibly 30 not just 2.5 million. The vic20 sold about 2.5 million but your chart includes the Commodore 64 in that number which I believe is quite incorrect. For the sega genesis most numbers say over 30 million units and some as high as 40 million. The N64 sold nearly 33 million not 31. The sega saturn sold over 9 million units possibly as many as 17 million. Sega dreamcast sold just over 9 million but other numbers say possibly well over 10 million nearly 11. PSP sold more like 82.5 million not 80. I did find it odd that your gameboy/color numbers stopped for a while at the same final sales figures of the gameboy advance before continuing to what they ended up as. Then I noticed many of your sales figures show that ps3, Xbox 360 and others still were selling years after they had been discontinued. Again I’d love to read where you got your info as I’d love to learn different. I do love you’re one of the few places that say the ps2 sold more than 155 million units. I’ve found many numbers that say as high as 160 but yours says 162.5 million sold. I’d love to know where you read that as it makes me very happy to think the ps2 did even better. Finally this is just my opinion however, I think the ps4 may have cracked 120 million sold. My reason for this is that Sony posted the sales of 117 million a long time ago and everything I’ve read is that Sony is still producing some ps4 consoles. If that’s true maybe they could even crack 130 million by the time they are discontinued but I don’t know lol.
