    The 3770k was my first high-end CPU I had, it served me well paired with my AMD 7770.

    Combine this with the Fan mod from your last video and you got a compact desk heater that also serves as a dust buster with authentic ambient noise floor 😀

    You can put a xeon 1275 v3 in there, I have but it's a 95w cpu and gets really hot and then shuts down due the 65w power supply. if you could find a way to upgrade the cooling system and power supply it could work.

    • @jims_junk
      @jims_junk  4 месяца назад +4

      ya know I thought of that. Only they cost more on ebay then I was willing to spend. In the future I might just for the hell of it if i can find one cheaper.

    +Flip the fan around to blow against the heatsink. You will notice much cooler temperatures and less fan ramp-ups. Please make another video if I prove correct.

    get it placed properly on the desk and you've got yourself a warmer plate for your coffee cup.

  • @zachbeckner
    @zachbeckner 4 месяца назад +2

    That is insane the difference it made. You already lapped the heatsink and that helped A LOT, wonder how fast or hot it would get without the cpu and the heatsink lapped. But either way with both lapped it stays cool. Like others said delidding it would be interesting to see if that helps.

    • @MichaelAChang

      Yup, they use the "S" version in small PCs and All-in-Ones.

    • @XDymeStarX
      @XDymeStarX 4 месяца назад

      The "S" still have a tdp of 65 watt. When you are looking for normal temps and no fan noises, the "T" with a tdp of 45 watt is probably your best choice. Also, what I don't see in the video is the power adapter is very important here. Yours can come with a 65 watt adapter, to run these heavier cpu's you really want that 90 watt adapter.

    • @jims_junk
      @jims_junk  4 месяца назад +5

      Exactly. It does run a 90. I wanted to see if a full blown i7 would work. The s and t m9dels are great but have less performance.

  • @jamesdavies686
    @jamesdavies686 4 месяца назад +1

    You need to delid that 3770, the thermal paste under the IHS is probably bone dry at 11+ years old. It's probably 90% at fault for the excessive heat.

  • @BrunodeSouzaLino
    @BrunodeSouzaLino 4 месяца назад

    You always want to lap in a pattern of 8 to prevent back and forth movement from creating or amplifying high spots already present in the IHS.

  • @aresosweet888
    @aresosweet888 4 месяца назад

    what i did was glue on air intake at front a 30mm usb fan and that alone dropped temps 20 c on cpu at load
    also use a 3770t cpu in it not a k or a s as thats 45 watts power and power pack is only 65 watts (org) even a 90 has probs with the k trust me i tried note fan blows cold air in not out so blows over heatsink on cpu and stirs air in whole case to rear fan
    took about 1/2 hr to drop temps and then hold it at that
    note space fan from case x a few mm with plastic buttons helps heaps and drops sound of fan way down as well

    That convinced me. I have two i7-3770's. I'm going to lap one of them and see if I get the same or better results? Mine will be in a regular desktop PC. Should be fun. Does anyone know what grit the brown sandpaper was? Thanks

    • @funghiman8492
      @funghiman8492 4 месяца назад +1

      For softer metal like copper, 600 grit is a quite safe bet, start gently and check for effect every few minutes.
      If you have a whole set, 600-1000-3000 will be a good step-up combination, giving you close to mirror finish in the end while not taking too much time doing so.

    If the think center has an i5 to start with. the tdp might be estricted to 54watts if it came with an i3.i should imagine using nothing less than a intel stock cooler.you haven't really tested it .it was overheating almost with the desktop on standby how is it going to perform thermaly I bet it will thermal throttle right away it will be useless until a more durable method of cooling the device .its was designed for 54watts and its hardware will be on the limit with only an i3

    • @jims_junk
      @jims_junk  3 месяца назад

      Um I did test it. Ran it at 100% for a while and it didn't overheat. Plus I've been using it for odd jobs over rdp with zero problems

      @ApacheVR-4 4 месяца назад +3

      Exactly what I was thinking. Ivy Bridge and Haswell were notorious for high temps because of the crappy TIM that Intel used between the CPU die and the IHS. It would be REALLY interesting to see what kind of temps he could get with it after that since replacing the factory TIM with some liquid metal should drastically improve the thermal conductivity. And since he has already lapped the IHS and heatsink, that's basically the last thing left on the list to do.
