It’s a World Cup, not a World Championship. It’s hard to explain but the World Championships are the next thing to the Olympics in gymnastics. World cups are more obtainable for lower level gymnasts, used to gain experience or certain qualification, and they’re more frequent than a World Championship. Top athletes don’t really need to go to World Cups to qualify to things such as as the World Championships bc their countries they’re apart of are most likely already qualified to go. World Cups do give prize money, however, so a lot of seasoned gymnasts do these cups regularly to make a living off of their sport. Most World Cups are also by invite only, while others are open to any competitors. So sometimes gymnasts from US, Brazil, or other top countries go but they’re not in the top gymnasts of their country, it’s for the gymnast to gain experience and see how well they score with international judges before potentially being sent on other international assignments lol.
