I'm really enjoying this "Post-McElroy" era of Polygon videos where we get video essays about gaming trends, development insights, and basic lessons on what sorts of things a developer will include in a game to make a satisfying experience that will stand out to players even when they don't realize why. I knew that Spider-Man's swinging and Kratos' axe felt satisfying, but it was fun to learn that the developers were subtly tweaking the laws of physics within the game in a way that made those experiences more satisfying but didn't register to the player on a conscious level. The fact that I as a person who loves gaming but has no concept of development or programming can sit in on a short, simple, and informative video makes me feel smarter for having learned something, and happy that I'm still subscribed to this channel. I miss Monster Factory, and admittedly only originally subscribed so I could follow Justin and Griffin on yet another platform; but I'm happy to know that this channel has creative things to offer other than goofy one-off's and let's plays.
God. Please give us a new Pokémon Snap. I understand that copyright issues like complicate things but please man. I’d love to play something like Pokémon Snap again.

oh my goodness - some of the clips brought back memories of routes learnt by rote for those photos. For my first console game it was definitely one I think of fondly

"The video game equivalent of a coloring book." Well put. There have been stressful times in my life where that's exactly the kind of game I need, when I can't handle the demands of something that would otherwise be more engaging and challenging because it just felt like more work.
Ah for the days when a game completion mechanic involved throwing an apple at a Charmeleon's head and knocking it into lava, causing it to die horribl- uuuh I mean EVOLVE. Yes, that's right, evolve.
I always feel like I missed some important cultural milestone for my generation in that I didn't get to play this game. At least with this video I've now seen gameplay. :')
It really was such a sweet little game, and came at the right time in that early burst of Pokémon enthusiasm before there were a million of them, and before some of us (sorta kinda) got too old to keep up with it. I'm just sad I didn't get to play it more, as before I could get deep into it my ex-flatmate at the time stole the cartridge when he moved back to his parents place. But so his tiny toddler sister could play, so I wasn't really mad. Aaaand that little baby sister of his is now grown up and married, so damn you for making me suddenly feel old.
This is a cool deep dive but the title doesn't really make any sense. Pokemon is not Instagram in any capacity and never was. You don't need to wrap everything with a millenial-pandering social media tie-in just to get clicks. Or maybe you do, maybe we are that stupid, but at the very least this one was an obvious reach.
Nah, i thought the same at first but I see the parallel. Digital cameras weren't as mainstream when PS came out, so at the time taking photos usually meant having a very limited magazine of shots. Do overs were costly. Instagram isn't about the filters, it isn't even really about the selfies. It's about the self-expression. I hell of expressed myself with PS as a kid.
But...why not just ask *Pokemon trainers* (like Ash & Gary) to take pictures of the Pokemon they're out capturing? Is this a discrimination thing where only privileged boys get Pokeballs while other people get a camera? >:(
Paradox Acres Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. Different just means different. Studying animals in their natural habitat is important when trying to conserve the species.
