Brave mother. I find her more impressive than her son. Going back and forth between China and North Korea for ten years ! Being in prison (twice), tortured, but never gave up. She has an incredible aura around her.

It amazes me still how so many people are so unaware about how dire the situation is in N. Korea and how their problems are nothing compared to the people that suffer over there.

LOADS of people are aware of the situation in north Korea but does that mean that their problems don't matter because they are not starving or escaping from their country? Or that we should not make small things a problem because there are people out there struggling more? There will ALWAYS be a person suffering more than you, maybe even more than the north koreans and you will still be unaware. That's the reality.

I just hope we don't become low wage workers who only have freedoms based on our money. I already see many divisions within the society even by now, and lots of corruption. I sincerely hope it doesn't go by that path. Whether or not the state is "democratic" or not if the system isn't working then things must change

I've been watching a lot of North Korean documentaries, but this one is on the top of the list of being powerful. It's amazing what a human being can endure, however, the strength that humans have to continue and fight on is by far more incredible. Lee Sung (Danny) is an inspiration. It hurts to think that people this very second are suffering in camps (like Yodok), from starvation, etc. I still hold hope that this terrible regime will end and end suffering. Suffering needs to end, there is no need for it. LiNK, Thank you for helping 204 people so far cross, you guys are amazing. I will always support you, Lee Sung, and the other refugees.
I know people world wide are suffering, and we should attend to them all. Peace is possible.

Danny, you are brave young man. I have same name as yours and I was born in South Korea and came to United States many years ago. Seeing your history, I was very moved by your courage, and think how lucky to gain your freedom. Of course, as you were, I was once had great mother who guided me through hardship. I can only give you advice is to focus on what you have to do in this life and protect your freedom. I hope someday you have own family that enjoy the freedom and able to give back freedom to who have not able to feel not even one day in their life. I hope we see each other someday and talk about cost of freedom. I will pray for you and your mom. Love your mom. She has given you a world. Take good care of yourself.

If your grandson has a better life this is true happiness for Grandma’s soul. I hope you can live here without too much difficulty. Thank you so much Danny to tell your inspirational heartfelt story of living in North korea^^ I cried when you mentioned what you would say to your Grandma and when you finally met your Mom (and I was even sick too which made me look horrible haha). My Grandma raised and took care of me while my mom was working and I was the only grandchildren to get taken care of and it took me around 8 years due to where my Grandma was living and I'm close with my parents especially with my mom. It hit me emotionally and now I am determined to also make a change to help the North Korean people, by raising awareness and fundraising to help donate to Link. I hope your doing well Danny same with your mom and all the best to you and your Photography because you have a talent with it :D Kahmsamnida

Hello. My name is Danny, too. And I am from The United States of America. I am grateful for those who made sacrifice of their labors, their blood and tears, so that someone else's child can have their Freedom. Freedom to travel, to own property and dispose of it as I choose. Freedom to make mistakes, recover, learn, and carry on for even more generations to have that Freedom which is rightfully theirs, should someone be willing to pay the price.
I have one overarching question: how can I help to destroy the tyranny into which so many people sell their neighbors, even their own children?

Yves L Another Malaysian here. Been on a Marathon of videos on North Korea from the defectors' and pro-NK's views. Personally, I prefer the defectors' views as it gives a more accurate picture of NK.

"Until all of us are free - none of us are." Wow. What a powerful note to end on. This story was so heartbreaking but so beautiful - the love between a Mother and son. The recognition of sacrifice. It was amazing. What extraordinary people.
