I can tell you from first hand experience that this can also carbonate many foods which should never be carbonated. It makes for some very odd flavors one year my brother was pretty pissed when we ruined his ice cream cake.

To just keep a product chilled, use only small quantities of dry ice and place more packaging material between the dry ice and the product.

Hi Sumal, yes dry ice can be used to keep dry ice frozen during transport. Note that dry ice should be transported in a separate compartment to the driver cab as CO2 can build up in enclosed spaces over time.

CO2 is a non-toxic gas, it is only a potential asphyxiant in larger quantities in confined spaces (readings of 5000ppm or greater) when it can displace the oxygen over a period of time. The dry ice (solid CO2) will not have any toxic effect on beverages in a cooler. Ensure to never place dry ice in airtight containers and only use a small amount of dry ice if you wish to cool the drinks - if the beverages are in direct contact with dry ice or you're using a larger quantity of dry ice then it could freeze them - important to note if using glass bottles as they could shatter if the liquid inside expands.
