Peter Windsor talks you round a lap of the Red Bull Ring, with plenty of acknowledgements to the venue's history in Formula 1. For more: motorsport.tv/...
@@levai_84 wow, it's been a year.. I think we need longer Red Bull Ring. It's not satisfying enough to see one lap just under 1 minute 10 seconds. Don't you agree?
@@azharfikri8446 I mean, no. Absolutely not. You can't compare a track like Red Bull Ring to an oval circuit. That's like comparing apples and oranges.
Is this circuit designated as having 9 turns this year? They always go back and forth on the left hand drive-thru coming up the hill into the second corner (Where Nico hit Lewis) as being a turn vs not being a turn. On Formula1.com, the track layout shows 10 turns. Clarification?
I dont think DRS zone on the new straight is necesary as It will just be too easy to overtake like in france. I thnk you need a bit of the unknown going into the braking zone, not having the overtake done half way down the straight. Just my view
Emmanuel Mckay Well something has to be added. Virtually every year here has been pretty poor for overtaking around this track with only the 2 drs zones. That even includes 2016 where Hamilton only got past because of a Rosberg mistake. The third drs zone is necessary given that history and the further increase of overtaking difficulty for the whole 2018 season
Echoes mourN I think they never put one there because drivers would overtake anyway into turn 2. But now with the new cars they felt the need to put one there, I think it's gonna be awesome.
Monaco is a drivers track, but for us fans its boring as fuck. And so is this track, because of the modern cars that demand a really long straight for us to get many overtakes.
Kasetti 55 Wrong, a racer’s track is a layout that promotes racing and relying on driver skill. Monaco is neither. Monaco promotes zero racing/overtaking and is dependent mostly on chassis and aero, There is some driver skill involved when pushing the limit, but it isn’t comparable to Austria.
Was this episode sponsored by Ferrari? You forgot to mention the farce of a finish in 2001, and it worse the following year, where Rubens made way for MSC at the line. That was low, even for Ferrari and Schumacher.
These circuit guides are great.
Loved the bit of history and general chat about the circuit before the nitty gritty, great video!
That picture of you is legendary mate
Kudos to mentioning Mark Donahue.
I love this channel.
Long straights on the climb, low down force setup, drs zone...
Seems like a good circuit for engines with higher HP?
Dear Red Bull, please make Red Bull Ring longer..
Use the unused straight at the backhill of the backstraight which was a part of Osterreichring..
Why?

@@azharfikri8446 I actually prefer it. A shorter track means more cars closer together. Means we get better, more intense racing.
@@OMDolton84 in that logic, you just agree to race at oval tracks. Yeah, it's shorter, more simple, more closer racing. What could possibly go wrong?

who spun?
and what exactly happened after Walker touched Mansell's bruise?
I'd so like to know

I've always like this circuit -one of Tilke's better redesigns
not a particularly complicated track but it actually allows for some overtakes
Would be nice to see a rainy, race for a change.... Since the Brazilian GP, we have not really got one
Graphics should have been updated to include the 3rd DRS activation zone.. its only mentioned but not backed up on the map.
I thought T2 was reclassified last year?
Yes, the hairpin is T3
racer949494 Did you watch the video?
Yes, the video is wrong, what's your point? ^^ On the official F1 website the hairpin is T3.

Hopefully it makes it a blinder but just hope the overtakes are in the braking zone and not half way down the straight
Most of us have only driven it in sim games, but I gotta say...it's a technical lil' bastard.
and who could forget the two mercedes there in 2016...
"i locked up"
The fact is: if Rubens Barrichello wanted to proof someting as he always says in his interviews, he woudn´t let Schumacher through in that day.
Where is the third DRS?
Vinay Achar after turn 1, after turn 2 and the start/finish straight.
Vinay Achar l assume it would either be between t1 and t2 or t7 and t8
Like said in the vid between turns 1 and 2
After turn 1. Always figured there was enough space on that straight/long curve to have another DRS section
Echoes mourN I think they never put one there because drivers would overtake anyway into turn 2. But now with the new cars they felt the need to put one there, I think it's gonna be awesome.
I wonder if they have their deer problem under control yet? Don't need another car becoming a skidding missile like on the old Osterreichring.
Altitude a problem in Austria? Meh! I live in Mexico City
With that third DRS zone we might see 60 second lap times in qualy, maybe even upper 59 secs.
Ferrari and mercedes will dominate, the rest will struggle for speed
Another dnf for McLaren
This track is overall boring, so let's hope with three DRS sections and expected weather we get some eventful racing.
Stephen Tuthill No, your a wanker if you think this track is “boring.” It is a true racer’s track with multiple overtaking opportunities

I thought the race in 2016 was pretty good ;)

He does specifically mention it and even goes into how significant it was....
Please excuse the uneducated dummy here, MSC is Michael Schumacher, right?
Did you even watch the video?
