Only barely appears to be underweight if at all, I obviously can't tell for absolute certainty from a simple video, but these boas are almost ALWAYS overfed, as they're so much more arboreal than many other constrictors; they need to maintain that rectangular/triangular body shape; as soon as they start becoming round like larger python species they're overweight. It's also a common boa; Boa constrictor imperator, as apposed to a true red tail; Boa constrictor constrictor
The boa isn’t to bad but I’d definitely fatten it up a bit and once up to weight. One large meal a month should help keep its weight perfectly. They have a slower metabolism then the snakes your used to kenan but you could do smaller meals weekly as well if that’s what you prefer.
The boa is gorgeous, so glad the new girls(?) are getting along with the largens. I really hope that your appointment with Dr. Mike is for MARGE as well. We have to look after the first lady of the Kamp (sorry Kate).❤🐢❤️🐍
Beautiful new boa, congrats! It does look a little underweight, but not by much. A good meal every two weeks will have it putting on size at a healthy rate, and then a big rat once a month is plenty - they really don't need nearly as much food as you may have learned years ago. They live much longer when kept at a strong, rectangular shape. Also sexing boas is easy - males have keeled scales near the cloaca. If you feel bumps on the scales near the spurs, you have a male. Best of luck!
Nostradamus and his buddy! It’s always great to have a new member in your office and with a great feeding response ! It was really special to see Hank & buddy arrive on Kenan Patreon. It’s only logical that people should subscribe to that. Have a great weekend master Jedi 💯
I’m excited you have a new snake. I noticed a bump on the underside moving towards the head. I’m sure you will see it. I at first thought it was a tick
I am so excited to seeing the new addition! I have a boa! I wish I could have torts/monitors but I don’t think it would be fair to house them indoors in Michigan. That’s a reason why I love your channel so much lol.
Nice addition! Hope all goes well, gotta say be a blast hanging out with ya and even doing work help on the grounds. Restore the water pump wind mill!!!! That be so cool make a little water feature when the wind blows and water flows. Show the fantastic wood light posts you got near the front entrance. I would love to get their dimensions and make some of those myself, have a wood shop. Where are the lantern hoods from How old back history?
That boa definitely doesn't look like a red tail that looks like the BCI you should watch Davs video on Boas he did amazing job with it and your new boa definitely looks like the bci
@@annscrimgeour8894 I hope he already took care of Marge, his uploaded Videos are often not precicely Chronological. An he keeps sometimes Video footage of the same thematic on hold, to put it in the same video.
I don't think Colin died, but he's old so he does move around a lot, and doesn't want to be handled like he used to,so he put back in the crappy cage. were he doesn't get enough sunlight to properly digest to digest his food... hopefull he'll remember he's back there and keep the plants under control, but he planted even more back there that will block the sun, so I don't know..... Colin was doing so well, but he just had to rip up the cage he was in and put Colin back in the chicken cage. Poor Colin. At least he's not leatting him get eating like that other snake he had.
I was honestly kinda flubbergasted to see the new snake eat in an enclosure that he was just inspecting for the first time - wow. Most animals wouldn't do that. I have to guess, he's been pretty accomodated to humans and being in different cages - but even then... That's great news!
Awesome new additon Kenan! Just a bit of a keeper to keeper tip, I'd really recommend feeding that snake a larger prey on an irregular basis rather than multiple prey items over such a short space of time. I'm not sure if you know but when you feed snakes a lot of food quickly it can have really damaging consequences on their internal organs. It can also sometimes send their body into shock due to the influx of food, this is rare but can and does happen unfortunately. They just aren't designed to digest so much food constantly. Maybe try her on guinea pigs or big breeder rats every few weeks? Best to get her weight up steadily rather than within a short space of time. I hope you take that constructively bud!
Hi Kenan, Hi from the UK I agree with @SuperDjwasabi, Boa imperator ( Common ), rather than Boa constrictor ( True red tail ) also that it's not under weight to a large degree.....& for what it's worth I also agree with your Vet that it appears to be be an infected Scent/ Musk Gland . I spotted the same in a friends Royal/ Ball Python which recovered well after draining & course of antibiotics. Very nice snake BTW....
That’s almost definitely an impacted scent gland 😢 poor guy would’ve been like that for a VERYYY long time for it to have developed into something that huge! Dr Mike will have that sorted in no time!!! 😊if it is an impacted scent gland, it’s very normal for it to reoccur in the future (that is dependant on the cause of the original impaction)
Just trying to help you Dave Kaufman recently did a video of boas in the wild he shows the differences between a boa imperator and the red tail true red tail boa as I saw it yours looks to be same as mine bci hope this helps 🙏
Have you watched Dav Kaufman's The Boa Constrictor Movie? It is really interesting. With your new boa you might enjoy it. Nice to see the new animals. Dr. Mike is cool.
I have 4 boas. 4 dwarf boas. Boas are my favorite. Mine are very tame raised up from babies/young. Nicaraguan boa, sonoran leopard, hypo boa, hypo leopard.
Hi kenan So happy for Dr. Mike's new baby. Nice boa. ❤Marge find out what is happening with her. The new Aldabra is cute. Glad the snake ate. Have a nice evening. Cindy
I absolutely love Boa constrictors, I've owned many reptiles my first being a Corn Snakes I've owned many Boas both common and morphs and both Corn Snakes and Boas and comparable despite the size difference between the two imo Corn Snakes and Boas are extremely active a Boa is basically a Corn Snake but bigger when it comes to enclosure i don't recommend a maximum size because bigger the better when it comes to activity I'd be very surprised with Kenans Boa isn't very active. Corn snakes are basically the same i say "basically" because Corn Snakes are smaller and have eggs and Boas are bigger and have live young but they are both active snakes and eat without fail even my babies despite coming from other side of the country (England) they still eaten all the boas I've owned are puppy dog tame so if you want a corn snake but something bigger than a boa.
I love snakes more than any other reptile (but I haven't had my own monitor yet) I don't have the right enclosures so I wont get one till I do. I want a true red tail but I know for a fact I want a Super dwarf reticulated python regardless of what I have to do to create its enclosure. It's crazy I can go into a reptile shop near me and shock workers with my knowledge of reptiles being a 4'7 girl. I already thought you should do more for your animals than the bare minimum and your channel inspired me to just go above and beyond, these animals are only limited to the space you give them. I know my ball python when I rearrange a few decor Items for "new" enrichment he explores every inch of his enclosure. so I can't wait to see what a large snake does in a bigger enclosure
I had a redtai boa for 10 years and she was great, until one day she decided that she didn't like me anymore and grabbed me by the face. I gave her to a snake breeder and he said that sometimes they snap. He had to put her down a year later after exhausting all avenues with her. Something about in breeding. Be careful please and don't let your guard down. FYI😢😢
2 large rats per week is way too much for a boa. 1 large rat per week will increase the weight. Then you could go 2-3 weeks on a large rat. Boas don't digest as fast as other species
Great video 👍 but what happened to Marge? 🐢 I've been worried sick about that poor Turtle since that episode. Please 🙏 tell me what happened with her @ the Doctors/Vets. Thank you.
males generally have thicker, longer tails that taper more abruptly towards the tip compared to females, which have thinner, more evenly tapered tails; however, the most accurate way to determine a boa's sex is through "probing" - gently inserting a blunt probe into the snake's cloaca to feel for the presence of hemipenes (male reproductive organs). Key points about sexing boas by tail: Male tail characteristics: Thicker base, sudden taper towards the tip. Female tail characteristics: Thinner, more evenly tapered throughout. Important consideration: Visual cues from the tail alone might not be definitive, especially in younger boas, and probing is always the most reliable method.

The state of Flordia kept fucking around with the permits you need to have to be able to own a Burmese Python aka Buttercup aka the big white snake. So he eventually gave it to a buddy in different state who takes care of it.
She is under weight but don’t feed her twice a week. They have slow metabolisms and you could cause internal damage and shorten her life span. Give her an xl every 10 days till she’s gained 2-3 pounds then start feeding her like every 21 days
Kenan I love you and I know you know what you're doing but two rats a week for a boa constrictor is insanity. Give it one large rat per week for a month and then spread it out to every two weeks for a month then every 3 weeks, then you can feed one large meal every 3 to 4 weeks there's no need to power feed a boa constrictor

But notice how much sag there was on its belly when it kept running over his hands.
