    Very cool to learn more about high-rise builds. Honestly teaching me more about the job in 10 minutes than 3 years of uni. Got a pretty okay groundworks background now after 3 years of practice too, but these are something I haven't done before! It really is helping me discover more about the trade and keeps things exiting! Thank you for your hard work it really is appreciated!

    Hello Greg! Thank you for the videos. I would like to ask if you have a video explaining how do you transfer control points from level to level?

    • @SITENG

      I don't have a video like this, but typically I set targets around the job so I can use it, or when the one block is higher etc

    Hi Greg
    What is the best way to mark the slab edges and steps when setting out on the deck.
    Prism or laser?
    Thanks

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  Год назад

      Whatever is better for you really, of course make sure your line is spot on. When using a prism on the long pole it's not that easy and when using the laser you still need some target to mark it right

    Would you ever just use tape measure to tape things in and some of those things I would expect a chippy to be able to do him self?

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  Год назад

      most chippies are not real chippies these days, a good chippy don't need much, a lot of people just bought a hammer, start the job and all want engineer to check everything really. They don't know what the plumb bob is 🤔, so we really have to check everything to make sure all is good.

    Hi Greg. First of all I would like to thank you for the good job you doing. I would like to know if you are planing more videos about auto cad and what kind of licenses would you advice the full one or maybe TL for setting out.

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  3 года назад +1

      Hi jerzyqs! LT is enough, full version is really expensive and for site engineering LT is really good :)

    Hi Greg, Well Done on the videos very well edited.
    So you would under no circumstances advise on setting up on a deck. Another engineer said he did but only when it was him alone on the deck and he said the EDM (Robotic) compensator took care of the level disturbance if it was in the "seconds".(while he moved about on the deck.)

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  3 года назад +1

      I wouldn't set EDM on the decking, definitely. You need to think about these things in advance. How to set up, you can also use a concrete block, some guys putting precast column flat on the deck :) Please don't set on decking, if I would see that I would have a big doubts about the engineer and would definitely stop it on my site. (bet the setting out on that job is terrible ;)

      when you say they put a precast column on a deck. Would the deck not move anyway and then the precast??
      Ya im just exploring different options another one i heard is to ser out everything on the slab below and use a spot laser to plumb the point unto the underside of the deck and nail through.

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  3 года назад

      the main thing is to set your EDM with minimum movement possible and setting on the deck is no good for it. Even when you are using mono leg there still be some movement as the column is not 'fixed' on top, but this will give you acceptable error. using laser - plummet points is different thing and is very good for high rise buildings to keep your resection within smallest error as using targets may be difficult/impossible.

      @@SITENG This is exactly what I wanted to read. I don't work off the ground much at all, but am doing a little bit of asbuilt-ing on a two-story build. Guys tried convincing me to set up on aluminum decking today (in the rain, no less) and scoffed when I told them it wouldn't be happening. I was wondering if somebody like yourself, who works on large buildings all the time, would have some kind of suggestion. "Don't do it" is the best suggestion I could ask for.

  • @scottmacgregor6123

    Hi Greg, great content! How do you resection on high rise if control is on ground floor building etc?

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  2 года назад

      Thanks Scott! You would need to use plmmet points, leaving a box/hole in the slab and set the EDM over it (using a plummet laser over a known point - station).

  • @jay_3ast5smith76
    @jay_3ast5smith76 Год назад +1

    Hi Siteng,
    When on top of the decking how do you set laser level for the ssl, as you don't have any columns or walls to mark up?

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  Год назад

      You can use a monopod, like Survipod - you have to set your EDM there. than you can check some level and refer to it - wherever it will be (provided it's not moving)

    • @SITENG
      @SITENG  3 года назад

      Hi Ram! Setting out is the main thing and the best to get the job. You need to know how to read the drawings of course to be able to do setting out correctly, but I would say once you can use EDM and can take basic info from the drawings that's all you need.
