Just drive it outside (most have wheels), in the summer, let the ice melt..and then wash it with the garden hose...That's why I do :)

Besides the obvious freezer condition issues (rust spots), NEVER use metal implements to scrape the ice. You can easily damage the freezer. Use a plastic ice scraper, like the one you use on your car windshield. Make sure you disinfect ( I use diluted bleach and then rinse thoroughly afterward) to eliminate any mold from food residue..

is there any way to remove the rust. i have a few minor places and would like to keep it from spreading in my artic king? thanks.

I'd also like to add that the metal tool the child was using was a wood chisel. A heavy and EXTREMELY sharp tool that would make mincemeat of either plastic or the thin metal lining of the freezer. Definitely use a plastic scraper if you want to protect the longevity of your freezer.

Glad I came across your video, because I was really trying to figure out how to do this. My mom did it the old fashion way. But one question, if you don't have a wet vacuum, what do you suggest I can do to get the excess water out?

    • @mysillysquirts2907

Some deep freezers have a plug that you can open and let it drain out. Or just sop it up with a towel.

Very poorly shown! You have to unplug it. And, you need to use a wooden or plastic scraper ( this usually comes with the freezer unit).

just did mine, but much quicker and easier than this. I just unplugged the freezer, took all the food out. After a few minutes the ice doesn't stick to the sides, so it can be scraped off with a plastic putty knife. Then use the shop vac to suck out all the ice. No need to melt it first, as it's really easy to vacuum up the ice. Wipe the freezer dry with a clean cloth and put everything back in. Less than 15 minutes, start to finish. I do it every few month, so the ice doesn't get too built up.
