This film was made in 1968, NO CGI, just models, inventive sets and tons of imagination. I was 10 years old in 1969 and saw this in the theater that year. I can't tell you what an incredible experience it was. Later that year I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon with my grandfather who relayed his impression of seeing an airplane for the first time when he was my age. To me the most iconic scene is when the ape- man tosses the bone into the air only to transform into a spaceship. That jump from ape to spacefaring species has always stuck with me.
This is definitely one of my all time favorite films in general and it really opened me up to the magic and deep storytelling that movies could provide. I'm glad to see that you two did it justice and went ahead and reviewed it because it is definitely a cornerstone of filmmaking and an inspiration for so many other movies. Great job guys, keep up the amazing work and I can't wait to see the next one. 👍😁
I think that HAL saw the flaws and the errors in the humans on the ship and hatched a plan to fake the antenna failure in an attempt to off the crew mates one by one starting with Frank, then the sleeping crewmates, and then Dave
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ I see it as HAL seeing an imperfect life and how maybe their emotions and desires could distract from the mission. It would rid the mission of any chance that the humans being too scared or not having the guts to do what it takes to reach peak intelligence.
One of my absolute if not the best sci fi film of all time. I own it on dvd and have seen it at least 20 times. I’ve heard you guys say this one didn’t get much traction but I’m elated other folks have a chance to find out about this if they care about sci fi film history. Im glad there’s other ppl with the same perspective as mine for 2001. ✌️🤙
So i have never actually seen this movie but when you were talking about the intro song, i didn't know what it was so i looked it up on youtube and when i tell you my jaw DROPPED! I did not know this is where it came from!
It's the size of brain relitive to body that makes the difference. Humans have the largest size brain relitive to body size than any other animal on the planet, so processing is not completely spent on physical processes like walking, and other bio functions
It’s a pretty simple idea but I’m not an intellectual so my thought goes like this - Humans are definitely the misfits on Earth in as much as being the only creatures with the power to destroy the place which does get me wondering if there was some tinkering done by science or ‘gods ‘ ! Thankyou for your work 👍😁
This is totally unrelated to this episode but have you guys seen the recent movie Happiest Season I usually hate cheesy christmas movies but I had to watch it and I recommend there are some ridiculous moments but personally it’s my favourite at the moment
it would be good to collaborate with Lee McCoy(Drumdums) and Cody Leach on classic movies namely Sergio Leone and the Western's of the 1950's 1960's and 1970's
Best movie ever made, just a fact! Like the fact that the Pyramids... They built it like a house. Just with really big bricks... really not that difficult. It was build on site from ground up. No big rocks were moved at all. All you need is a lot of concrete that can easily be made from natural ingrediens and big wooden moulds... No Aliens The Pyramids are just big brick buildings, nothing more...
Honestly when I watched this film first I actually hated it 😂 I always understood the importance of it and the objectives etc but yeah never wanted to watch it again. You’ve definitely given me a different perspective so I’m gonna try watch it again with all this in mind 👏🏼

Interesting theory! What are the flaws that HAL saw in humans?

@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ Also your podcast rules
@@bradleyearnshaw7023 I like that! Fortunately, film is subjective, especially 2001, so there are no right or wrong answers
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ That’s absolutely right and it’s what makes Kubrick so legendary
The University I work at in London, was left the Stanley Kubrick archive by his estate. It is a really unbelievable exhibition to visit.
That's incredible!

@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ never would have guessed it would be over 120 years old!
@@tylerjury2338 Yea! He used music from 19th and 20th century composers for the film!
