@@classguy7021 hi Class Guy, I’m so delighted with your lovely words! I love doing it and all the lovely comments mean so much. I’m all about the beauty in the every day. More to come soon!
What fun! I'm normally an in studio doing detailed work kind of artist. Recently I've begun going out and sketching. Learning to loosen up and have some fun! And oh my, do I love it! And I've developed a fountain pen addiction too. After all the money I spent, my most fun pen for sketching is the very affordable Sailor Fude nib pen, like what you're using. I also do photography but now often instead of taking a photo, I take out my sketchbook.
I loved this video. It showed me the heart and soul of an artist. When you have that heart and soul, you can’t stop yourself from always analyzing scenes of daily life and how to draw them. The difference between you and me is that you really do draw them. LOL I need to get my act together and just do it! Thanks for your video. From Kentucky, US.
What a lovely sketchbook!! And you are SO fortunate to share the creativity with family. I would LOVE to be sketching in a field or park or city cafe with my mom or daughter or sister. It would be the cherry on the top of life!! Thank you for sharing. :)

I just started a sketchbook after years of not doing art, and I love it so much. I got so much inspiration from watching your art!! You have such a lovely style and are so good at watercolors
How wonderful! “Learning thru play”. More people would surely express themselves artistically if they could only set aside their adultness + have a play to learn to draw + paint (or many other skills for that matter). You’ve encouraged me to have that mindset about a number of things I want to learn. So glad I’ve discovered your channel Roisin. I even wrote down your lovely name phonetically to ensure I’m saying it correctly. Thank you so much + cheers from Australia.
Hello and thank you for your lovely words. I also wish people would see the value in play, and not get so hung up on being taken seriously. But you’re asking people to be self-confident enough to do that which is a tall order I guess! Great to have you here.
What a lovely video. Thank you. I am just starting on keeping a sketch book diary/journal and I found your one very inspiring. Yesterday, which some are saying was the solstice, others sticking with the 21st; I caught the sun from my flat, rising between two rooves, so I have made a drawing of it. I also did a sketch of my sketchy sun salute (in my nightshirt). I am currently confined indoors due to a heavy cold. Hopefully I'll soon be feeling better and I can go out and about. The following week I'm off to Northumberland and hope I can improve my technique there. I also sit and draw my living room in the evenings whilst watching telly, as you say good for practising perspective.
I love your loose style, your sketchbook and your storytelling! You make me want to move across the "pond" (I'm in the U.S.) just so we could hang out and paint. You are lovely (and lively) as well.
AMAZING. I’m too much of a perfectionist to sketch like this - I wish I could!! It’s magnificent! Maybe I’ll use a small (very small lol) sketchbook to give it a try. Artists like you inspire me! ❤

You’re so kind Joanne. Thanks so much for your wonderful words. As for the SketchPocket it’s in manufacture at the moment. I am so excited to have it because right now I have to use the sample the factory sent me in a very boring grey-blue fabric that they use to make samples in progress. Bonjour from the Southwest of France! I enjoy your videos very much and I've gained a lot of useful info and inspiration for my pursuit of Urban Sketching. I started using fountain pens this year - including a bent nib Fude pen - and they're a great drawing tool. I've also been trying different color inks, inspired by your use of red ink. I taught myself to paint way back in 1973 and I've made art in every imaginable medium, but in all that time, I never used sketchbooks as an end in themselves. I teach drawing and painting, including a summer plein air course, but this summer I've also organized an Urban Sketching group where instead of teaching I get to be just another artist in the group. Anyway, thanks for your videos and your dedication to your art practice. If my wife and I ever find ourselves in your part of the world, we'll invite you out for a glass. Jim
I’m delighted to have been a part of your art journey. I do wonder about sketchbooks because I never sell anything, but I guess I sell the shovels rather than the gold, which is nice because you get to share the gift of happiness. I hope we meet for that glass someday. All the best to you and your wife! Róisín
I really enjoyed looking at your book, I have been doing something similar for a few years. No training just going for it. So lovely to see others, and yours is beautiful x
Thank you! Isn’t it the BEST activity there is for our busy lives, in which we’re always doing something for someone? So great to be able to tie our creative practice with that.
Lovely sketches, really enjoyed seeing them with all the stories! Your style has a touch of comic likeness…reminds me of the old Beano comics, but I mean that as a compliment, I really like it! And the teacup sketches were so good too. Looking forward to the next video ☺️
Thank you! I loved the Beano as a child, but Tintin was my guru, with Asterix a close second. Nowadays I love and revere the work of Sempé, but you’re right on the nose with the reference to comic artists…those early influences made a lasting impression on me 😁
Hi from Cork. Loving your channel, came across it a few weeks back. Love the painting of your mother and the Wicklow hills. I’ll have to check out your channel on how you do this portraits with water colours. Been experimenting with ink and watercolour but honestly loving your style with them. Just superb. Cheers Colin
Thanks a million Colin! I’ll be spilling all the beans on using watercolour on my channel. I was teaching online until very recently so now that I’ve stopped I’m going to bring it all to RUclips. But if you want it in a hurry there are nearly 200 classes on my website 🤯🥰
@@roisincure thanks Róisín for replying. I’ve always been a photography person (my channel!) but honestly water colours has me hooked!!! I’ll definitely check out your website. We’ll be up your direction in august to enjoy the fantastic scenery and life of Galway. If there are any painting get togethers or classes up that way in august you would recommend let me know. Again loving the channel. Been meaning to comment for ages. Was so nice to wander across an Irish channel. ☘️ Cheers
@colinosullivan I agree Colin, there’s nothing like finding someone talented who’s also homegrown! As it happens I have one place left in my urban sketching workshop 15th to 17th August but companions are welcome. Other than that yes, our group (Urban Sketchers Galway) meets weekly and they’re a lovely bunch, very friendly and laid back. Every Monday and sometimes on a Saturday too. Two hours usually and free as the air.
@@roisincure I would have loved to have made your workshop. Unfortunately we’d arrive mid way through the 17th. A real bummer. I’ll have to check your site and make a trip specifically for one of the workshops. I’ll see if the urban sketchers have a get together on and if it works. Cheers
@colinosullivan yes definitely check them out. Meanwhile I’ve just been booked for a week in the south of France 23rd to 30th August 2025. There’s also Dunmore East this year, 27th-29th September 😁
Happy accident I found you and I subscribed. My mouth fell open at the first page, love your artistic style. The nuns told me I couldnt draw 50 years ago and so I never have tried to since. I gotta try the paint tube page even though ive no idea where to start. Pencil an paper methinks 😂 British Kate in New York
Howdy Kate! Don’t mind the nuns, what do they know? You most certainly can draw, as long as you can write your name! I think the paint tube is a great idea but you should start with something in your house, something inconsequential!
@roisincure TY for the inspiration. I was 3 when they told me that. I was at the same private school until 18. The whole time I had to sit at the back of any art class and read my Bible. What they know ( knew then) was how to damage a child...
@madhattersoriginal6258 take art back! If it’s any consolation I’ve been rejected about 75 times (kind of lost count after that) and continue to be every time I apply for anything. Seriously! Happens to people who are different from the herd, you probably were too. It’s a strength not a weakness!
Your response was balm to my eyes and ears!!! Progressing through your video...I feel like I am weaved into a good Maeve Binchey book. I'm off to get a pencil now ❤

It is so lovely to hear the stories that go with each painting and it was especially fun to see the ones that I have sketched along with you!
That’s lovely Eileen! Yes I thought you guys would enjoy the ones with a personal connection ❤️
Thoroughly enjoyed this video and all the art! Very inspiring
I am very happy to hear that! ❤️
Nowadays I love and revere the work of Sempé, but you’re right on the nose with the reference to comic artists…those early influences made a lasting impression on me 😁
Unbelievably beautiful sketches. Enjoyed seeing all of them. Does everyone in your family draw?
Thank you Jennifer! Yes, all of them of all the generations ❤️
Just..WOW!
@@susanputman5674 😘
Very enjoyable look through your fab sketchbook, thank you! Great narration too. Cheers!
@@karencollar999 thanks very much 🥰
Hi from Cork.
Love your creativity I always try to be so real/photographic, wan5 to let myself go, you know what I mean !
Draw enough and you finally get bored of trying to be perfect all the time!
Thanks my grandma is from county west of Dublin, don’t want to pronounce it in case I get it wrong (think Co Meath). X
@wilfscarnivalband7039 Meath is pronounced exactly as it’s written!
Happy accident I found you and I subscribed. My mouth fell open at the first page, love your artistic style. The nuns told me I couldnt draw 50 years ago and so I never have tried to since. I gotta try the paint tube page even though ive no idea where to start. Pencil an paper methinks 😂
British Kate in New York
I'm off to get a pencil now ❤
@Roisin Cure what you have created is beautiful, and you have reaffirmed, for me, my belief that beauty is right where we are….
Always! Thanks so much 🙏
I really enjoyed this. Thankyou.
You’re very welcome!
Fabulous and so inspiring.
Thank you Tess, greatly appreciated :)
