This was such a life savor, I was so sick of the crack pop during playback that I was about to chuck this computer out the windows. I've seen a lot of videos on the samples and latency and no one helped on this specific thing but you, so thanks!!

Damn man, you're a life saver!!! I followed your advice and my pops and crackles disappeared. No one at Studio One was ever able to help, after weeks and weeks of getting advice from them. What a simple fix-increasing playback to the highest setting. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more great advice from you!

I ALMOST scrapped and re-recorded a song because of crackling and noise. Thanks to this video I was able to keep and perfect my original mix! I have Studio One on Windows 10 and I already knew how to fix latency. Turns out the higher block size eliminates crackles and noise - as you demonstrated. Thanks!

Wow this worked great. I had mine set at 256 for recording but never was an issue with the 96 usb interface on playback. Just upgraded to the 1818 and I couldn’t even listen back because it popped so bad. I put it up to 2048 samples for mixing and no pops at all. Thank you much.

So I was recently editing the audio for a video of a singer and had the crackling and popping sound and it seemed to be caused by the pop up video window, I say this because when I "X-ed" it out, the problem went away... Which was great, but I couldn't see the lip sync as I was editing, which wasn't really necessary in this case, but I could see it being problematic in a different scenario... Anyway, I made some adjustments in how my CPU was doing the processing, which seemed to help, but it was still doing some popping and cracking... I stumbled across this video and after making the adjustment that you suggested, the problem is completely gone! Thank you so much for making this!

Isnt the Processing tab related to the mixing and the audio tab to the input only unless you put it on the two highest settings then the processing tab will be bypassed. Keeping the buffer at recording sizes and processing at whatever works is the recommended approach from Presonus. I have 16 and maximum for large sessions and are very careful not to have rec enable or monitoring on anywhere.

So thought this would also answer my issue but no luck. Crackles and pops a plenty. 16 gig, i7, SSD etc. My Mac is a 2010 model with 8 gig with no issue so no correlation there! Some great comment below though!

This usually works 95% of the time. However, there is something else going on in your situation. It's impossible for me to troubleshoot an issues when there are so many different computer configurations out there today. It could be an application or 3rd party plugin installed on your machine as well. if you open a brand new session, dont install a single plugin. Just import a couple of tracks of audio and play it back. Are you still have these issues?

    • @UITATUBE
      @UITATUBE 5 лет назад

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Yeah with just the one track. To be fair I haven't tried multiple variations of lead, port, platform as yet. Never had an issue with Logic and USB 2 or Cubase and windows 10. Only encountered this recently with Studio One and a new laptop, didn't expect instant results but didn't expect to nearly blow my tweeters either!!!

I have recently recorded 4 tracks (3 guitar + 1 bass) everything went fine, no to little latency at all. Then I started recording the guitar solo, also it sounds great and on time when I play and record. However now when I listen to what I recorded it's like one bar to late in relation to the other tracks. It doesn't matter what I do it keeps getting delayed somewhere in the recording process so the end result turns out bad. I use the old Studio One 2 program from 2014. I have recorded other songs with none of these problems, so it's strange it kind of came out of nowhere.
    BR and great content!

I noticed one interesting thing. I'm recording and I get some crackling noises, that also record onto the track. When my interface is set to play back the sound of the Windows system (e.g. watching this video and hearing it through my interface's outputs - and yes, I'm using a PC), I get crackling noises. When I set my Windows sound output to the built in soundcard, there's no crackling left.

I had horrid latency with an analog mixer. It was low end and consumer level. Once I bought an interface, the difference was night and day. While not an Apollo, monitoring became tolerable. Cracks, hums, pops, etc. is all in the good leads.

Another thing to watch out for are master bus plugins that add latency. I'd been away from my DAW for a while and returned to work on a "finished" project with many VI's and master bus processing. My latency settings were all on point but my instruments had latency and newly tracked guitars were slightly off time. I was puzzled. Then I realized plugins on my master were adding latency. When I turned those off for tracking everything was perfect. Turned them on again when tracking was done.

Maybe Im in the 5% then... It was fine before and needed to fix my PC and reset it. Now I figured it out all again and the only thing that I didnt figure out yet was the cracking sounds and popping sounds like someone poked a mic. It only does it when im playing through Revalver 4. I updated the drivers, I tried both 441Hz and 48Hz for the sample rate (theres more options too) and buffer size is 256 samples. If I try to change it in the control panels, playback starts to skip off and on and the program bugs until I change it back to 256. Im using Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO. I tried to change USB ports, plugging my UR22MKII through different USB ports, didnt change anything. DOes that makes sense at all to you?

big help, thanks much. Your solution was the one of many I've looked at that finally fixed my static problem on a heavily-edited guitar track. One follow-up question: each time I change the device block size, it holds for both record and playback of that song and also for any new song I start, so I will try to find a setting (I'm using Studio One Pro v. 4) that works all the time for both recording and playback. Or would you recommend changing it back and forth for each situation for CPU performance issues for example?

Yes but what's a happy medium? For example 95% of my music is electric guitar and my vocals, I want a super low latency for recording but like to check what it sounds like after takes, are you saying I have to keep switching it every time? That would add a huge amount of extra time to my project times, to be fair I only really notice the pops and crackles when using midi, it seems to be fine when it's just my guitar and vocal, how low a latency is acceptable for guitar? Maybe I can fine tune it and find a happy medium, right now my latency for guitar is 1.5ms and that's fantastic recording wise

I never had to play with block sizes before until recently, when I bought Gerg Well's plugins. I am using Windows 10, i7 (8th gen) and 16GB RAM. never had any issues with latency. But right after I inserted the MixCentric on the master bus while mixing, I started to hear crackles like vinyls. I will try to reset the blocks. Also I have seen few people commented that after they changed the block sizes, they lost their audios. Do you know anything about that?

Of course this is a general premise with every DAW but you would think Presonus being all new and sparkly would have a auto buffer set function when record is enabled with user defined ranges based on their system, Anyway I’ve been migrating from ProTools for a about a year now and although the work flow features are clever and pragmatic in design I don’t think the sound quality is as rich and deep as PTs, also midi editing and mastering weaknesses don’t justify a total switch for me anyway there is also some weirdness in the way the edit and mix screens relate they don’t always seem to correlate like when a fader doesn’t appear until you add an instrument to a existing midi track (I would like a fader to be created with every new track I make) also there are some faders you can’t delete only hide, very odd, and the colors are a nice addition but selected tracks should be brighter and the waveform color a separate color if I so chose, I could go on but not the forum but yeah the buffer thing is a pain in every DAW including Studio One--Home setup- optimized 2014 IMac i9 64 gigs ram, thunder bolt Apollo, PTs, Ableton,Studio One 3.5, 56 year old studio and stage musician recorded almost everywhere that’s anywhere and ProTools is still the standard out there let’s be real but SO is nice for the home hobby shop very intuitive and easy

    Click DropoutProtection “Low”
That will completely * stop latency for recording

Thanks for the great video! I have a question, though. I have a Presonus Audiobox 1818vsl and I cannot change the block size settings in Studio One 5 Artist. So I keep having 2048 samples and high latency which makes the performance impossible while recording. Is it something that I did wrong in the settings or is there something else I could do to fix this problem? thanks in advance and thanks for your great videos!!

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy thanks for your quick response! I have actually fixed it by changing the settings in Virtual Studio Live. Somehow, I can change the settings only there and automatically changes Studio One, but not the other way around. Thanks again!

I just got studio one 5, I use a Mac laptop, I’ve tried everything but I’m having trouble connecting my mic to it; I’m using an usb mic. Whenever I try to use it, it doesn’t say my mic is available to use so I can’t record or even hear it through my headphones. Do I need to buy an audio interface? I’m really stressing about this

Hi! Presonus just ignored me so maybe you will be able to help me. I'm just testing studio one prime version and I have created 2 tracks using wav loops and I have noticed when I clicked play and loop start playing i heard small tiny click at the beginning of that loop so every time the loop was at the start i heard that click.so first i have tried to change fade in ( reduced slightly the volume) but no joy, i have changed the block size the same. I have two years old macbook pro so should be OK. The same samples in reaper and ableton are sounds normal. No issue there. Strange i was so close to buy studio one 5 but I don't think I can.

When I start my studio one and add my audio track, i get the worst feedback that doesn't go away until I switch off the track. Do you have any advice on how to get rid of it?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  4 года назад

Is the input gain turned up too loud? That usually causes feedback. also, if you are new to Studio One you may want to consider this course

I have an issue where I record from my motu m2 into my MacBook Pro 14 (16gb ram M1 Pro processor). It has a static that randomly appears mostly during recording into the daw and it prints onto the wav file I’ve tried everything. Any help?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy

Without seeing the setup, I have no idea. The quickest thing to do is try a different interface and see if that solves the issue. Try a different USB pot on your computer as well.

When I plug my instruments into my PreSonus AudioBox interface. The levels are always too loud, almost peeking. Even when the level knobs on the interface are turned all the way down. Same thing happened when I tried to record drums with a different interface. Would you happen to know why that is?

My crackles/pops in Studio One are impacted by volume. If I turn it way down, the noise goes away. When watching any other videos or listening to anything outside of studio one, I can crank the volume with no issue. It's just something in Studio One. I'm recording MIDI and the crackles and static are awful. No such issue with audio recording.

i wish studio one had more option in the pref. like pro tools or cubase. I get serious latency issues when trying to tweak plugins during playback. I have a powerful build, and am aware of how to set the sample rates. s4 will show 16 percent cpu usage but still lags like crazy when trying to mix during playback. I think it has something to do with core optimization, but not sure. This is why I always find myself going back to Pro tools

I switch to Windows 10, same audio device and monitors that were working fine before on Mac. Nothing but nightmares now. Extremely annoying crackling noise all the time. I'm having it constantly even when just watching youtube videos like this one. I lowered the settings all the way down to 16-bit 44.1KHz, Disabled All Enhancements, swapped out USB cable and plugged it into computer directly instead of hub, rebooted. Nothing works. Any time I switch audio apps like switching from youtube to another app I have to unplug and re-plug the USB. RUclips videos just hang until I either switch to another audio device or unplug the USB to the Presonus and plug it back in. I tried a range of settings in Universal Control as well. Tried both exclusive and non-exclusive mode.
Plugging the headphone jack output of my laptop directly into the mic input of the audio interface works fine without any crackling.
So it is definitely some kind of USB or driver issue. Computer is an i9 6-core processor with 32GB of RAM with nothing else going on in the background. If that can't play 2 channels youtube audio at 44.1KHz then I don't know what will. I updated to the latest drivers from presonus too but nothing works.
I also saw some comments on forums that it might be that the USB is not getting enough power so I tried 3 different powered USB hubs in addition to directly plugged into the laptop. Same problem with the crackling audio. So frustrated.
