Used to take 4 attempts with loads of walking backwards and forwards to the handle. Took the pin off this morning after watching the video.. Some numpty had mixed up the washers so now cleaned up and reasembled properly. Bonnet now "pongs" when you pull the handle. Big thank you Mike!
My bonnet won’t seem to shut now. I’m now thinking that the spring is not moving freely. Thanks for your well spoken and illustrated video, stuff like this helps a new Landy owner like me!
Now we all know that you don't burn the candle at both ends Mike. (LOL) I like the way that you go into infinite details when you do a video, just as you have with this bonnet (HOOD) catch, you are a real inspiration to people Mike, please keep it up. Many thanks and best wishes from Yorkshire Rob.
Theses are the 'small' things I never would have known - and now I understand why the bonnet often resists to pop up - lesson learned ! Thanx Mike ! Cheers Axel
Hi Mike we’ve just been away for a couple of days up to Harrogate and drive up through the Yorkshire dales via Hawes to Penrith then back down through the lakes. Every other car on the road in the dales was a newish Defender 90. Hope they’re looking after them because the prices on the UK are getting redicilous even for a standard van. Keep up the good work.
Well, after commenting on your previous video about my bonnet opening being a two person operation, I watched this video and checked my bonnet pin. It was stuck! Not as badly as yours as I managed to free it in situ. I've cleaned it best I can with WD40 (that bloody spring is strong and it's blowing a cold gale here) and put some copper grease on the pin. Works like a charm now. Cheers Mike. BTW My spring is coloured red (or orange).
I had an idea this was going to be the most boring video, but I realised that many have the same issues! Glad to help! I had a look at the springs and they are not available as separate items - you have to buy the whole assembly! Good to know the colour! Mike
Yes, your yellow marked one looks thinner than the one on mine. It could've been swapped at some time as I don't have a wheel on the bonnet. Keep up the good work!
My Defender has a spare mount on the bonnet and when the spare is fitted, the spring does not pop it open. However, there is enough friction in the release pull that it stays pulled out, so I just remember to leave it out if the spare is on and I need to get under there
I think there is such a lesson for any young mechanics out there. Mike has fixed thousands of vehicles and run his own shop without the need to buy expensive tools like Snap On. Stay off of the tool trucks and spend wisely
You are going to have to remove the grill and somehow try and grab the cable and pull it if you can - there is a cover over the lock mechanism which will make it tricky to access - good luck!

Hi Mike 🤔 thanks for sharing this video update 🤔 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I had an issue with mine and purchased a new one...but hood seems to be about 3/4 inch high in the front...if I almost tighten the bolt down ro almost collapsing the spring. When you open it, jumps up so hard it about rips the front off....anyone within issue..
Thx this is just one of things that you would never ever find in a workshop manual!

Excellent! Every now and again give it a shot of oil and it will not need looking at again

Thanks Rob - plenty of 'irons' in the fire!

Thank you Axel!
I recently put my wheel onto the bonnet. I had to use the uprated Spring. It works a treat.

Not sure which is which
You're right Mike, you'd never think that bonnet cables were that interesting! :)
As a follow up I got some Bearmach ones and they were very good!

Amazing just bought a new part for that this week... Didn't have 32s to unscrew it....as always tnx man...on the spot this one
Please don't buy Stilton Vice Grip.3:40 The metal they use is as soft as cheese.

Wise words Harvey - I bet that screw driver was a hefty price!
Hi Mike, I have a similar problem but my bonnet is and cable snapped off. Any idea on how to release? TD5 defender. Many thanks, Rob

What don't need replacing on a land rover???
Hey Mike, what camera do you use?
Canon Vixia R800 very reliable and nice swivel screen - I got it for the zoom which is easy to operate
@@BritannicaRestorations do you use an external mic or the built in one Mike? Does it have remote?
Built in mic but option for external - I have an idea you can connect to your phone but cannot be 100%
I love these videos
When the Candle appeared ! i thought of The Two Ronnies "Fawk andles"

Sounds like you may have a pin assembly from a bonnet mounted spare - they are different
Better than WD40? Impossible 🤣🤣🤣
Cat pee in a can!
