During the scene when Wash is asking "What is she doing on this ship?" we can see Kaylee giggling away next to him. After the reveal at the end we now understand why. Kaylee was giggling away like a little school girl thinking 'look at us tricking Saffron'. This makes sense as it fits Kaylee's character. Inara rubs it in to Saffron that she had been played from the beginning. Inara points out that some of the crew didn't play their part very well and almost gave away the dupe. Most likely, Inara was talking about giggling little Kaylee.
I love the quote “I shaved my beard for you devil woman.” Every now and then I’ll call my wife “Devil woman” just for humorous effect. Of note, her love language is quality time so I’ve learned how important it is to just sit quietly with her. My love language (and apparently that of my entire immediate family) is words of humorous denigration, so calling her “Devil woman” is just me saying “I love you”.
Another great episode. (with the gorgeous Christina Hendricks) My absolute favorite part was when Inara was explaining to Saffron HOW the crew "outsmarted" her! Because later in the episode, you learn that they DIDN'T! Inara was just a "failsafe" in case SHE outsmarted THEM. (and she did!) Which made her "knocking" Saffron "down a peg" like that, VERY touching & sweet! (she is clearly, VERY "protective" of the crew, and doesn't want ANYONE, even Saffron, thinking poorly of them!)
Malcolm Reynolds, standing naked in the hatch, with his hands behind his head, without a care in the world. Now that is the picture of a man with all the confidence there is.
The return of Yo-Saff_Bridge. I love so much about this episode: everything with Mal & Yo-saff-bridge, Inara, Wash at the table and of course "I can kill you with my brain"
"Let's face it... I'm really hot..." The truest thing Yo-Saff-Bridg says all episode. Always great to see the lovely Christina Hendricks. I also love Inara's lines about 'wobbly-headed dolls'🤣🤣🤣
A possible alternate perspective is that she was intentionally being dramatic to keep Duren's attention on her and not Mal dumping the gun down the chute.
When Mal was naked, Nathan had a privacy sock over his privates - and he'd taped a picture of Joss Whedon over it. The cast were trying hard not to crack up!
This is a fun ep. And one of those that makes you sad, cos you can see how cool it would have been to have these recurring characters if the series continued on for the intended 6 season run.
This one might be MY favorite. There's so much here. The return of Saffron. The "wobbly headed doll" scene might be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Durran Haymer, genocidal monster, mass killer, and thief, has a great insight, and an enlightened soft spot. The layer on layer of double cross. And the scene with Simon and Jayne, and of course River's final line-- "I can kill you with my brain." We still don't know what she's capable of, maybe she could. Jaune believes it. She certainly knew exactly what to say to scare him.
This is such a fun episode, but tragically it was one of three (along with the next two) that weren't broadcast during the original run. I'm so thankful that we got to see Saffron return at least one more time, because she's great. You can just imagine how her arc would have played out if the show had continued. I love Simon's interaction with Jayne too, it really shows his strength of character. Plus, River's "I can kill you with my brain" line is iconic.😂
Great reaction for a great episode. This is definitely one if my favorite episode. Christina is an amazing actress. I love all the nods of previous episodes.
I love this episode... YoSaffBridge and the scene in the med bay are parts of it. Jayne: anyone there? River leans around the door Jayne: Anyone else? The whole set of crosses, double crosses, and triple... or more crosses.
Sometimes there are movies or TV episodes that have a great twist at the end, and they're really fun the first time, but they're never quite as good again. This one is good no matter how many times you watch it (at least for me) -- maybe even better because you can see how well all the gears are designed.
Although "Out of Gas" will always be #1 for me, I think the next two favorite episode have to be the ones with Yo-Saff-Bridg featured. Such clever storytelling is possible with a character like her in the mix.
This show gets certain details correct that no other show does-that lasers are invisible (the current episode) and that there is no sound in space (Our Mrs. Reynolds)-both of them Saffron episodes, as it happens. Perhaps every new episode with her in it would replace a different trope with its more scientifically realistic counterpart. For instance, there being no “enhance button” on the computer, or realistic body pushing from guns (which you also see in War Stories). Perhaps even the worst offender-six guys on one all attacking together to dog pile our hero like Mr. Incredible covered in sticky balls. Perhaps Saffron’s superpower is to make real physics intrude on the tv world.
I like that Simon takes the high road, and chooses to just educate Jayne about how things could have gone, but didn't. And yeah, River could easily kill him with her brain, by outsmarting him. He didn't even manage to put his plan past her at any point. She slashed him before he called the cops.
I love this episode! Saffron is such a great character that it would have been fun to see reoccurring if the show had continued. I think she's deeper than we see, too. In the shuttle with Mal, the breakdown in the ex's house, all honest moments from her that she tried to play off by saying Mal was gullible and all of that. Would have been great to see more of that!
I look forward to the Firefly reactions all week! Every one of your reactions has been great, but when combined with one of my favorite shows ever, it's just chef's kiss! Yo-Saff-Bridge Is such a fun recurring character. Every time I watch Firefly, or reactions to it, I have to wonder how many more times she would have been back to complicate things for the crew. I mean this makes twice so far in this season, so would it be more than once every season? Or would they leave her out for a season or two so that it's bigger surprise when they reintroduce her? I will forever be a bit salty that this show doesn't have at least another five seasons to enjoy. 😡
@NiaMakiReacts if the remake ever sees the light of day, I will watch it. I will go into watching it with EXTREME prejudice. But, I will give it a chance. Which is more than I can say for the Dark Tower movie. I read the books. I loved the books. Idris Alba is a great actor. Idris Alba is not Roland. (The main character in the books.)
Funny bit of trivia. Male actors wear a "sock" when posing nude on camera. But Whedon being the cut up that he is had his face placed on the sock Mal wore. So, the stifled laughs you see are genuine as Nathan Fillion was having the time of his life swinging it around and trying to crack up the crew.
No, Whedon didn't do that. Fillion did. As in, Whedon didn't know about this until it was being filmed. Whedon is actually kind of a monster on set, and behind it. Decent writer. Horrible person.
Saffron losing her cool and yelling 'don't look at me like that' showed that deep down she really cares about he thinks of her and that he was indeed her real husband.
Concerning that "arms behind the head" "gesture" ... according to a body language expert it means the person is comfortable with the current situation and "relaxed". [Elon Musk did it in his recent interview with the BBC ... a great study of different bits of body language, which changed over the interview.]
Everybody's violent hun. The difference is what it takes for you to get there. A massive grave injustice (Or Saffron) is good cause to get violent over. Because someone scuffed your Js at the club, or was looking at your girl/guy a little too long, etc, is not.
If anyone deserved punching, Saffron does! I like the double meaning of the title. The Lassiter gets thrown in the trash - and Saffron is kinda trashy...
I have to pretend in my head this was a British produced series like the original BBC The Office series which only ran for six episodes total in it's entire run. With that kind of reverse engineering, fourth-demential mental chess, then we got just over double the amount of episodes The BBC Office series did. Yeah, it only works for, like, two seconds and then I want to go all full Rever on Fox Studio for bungeling and thus depriving this mutiverse timeline varient of a six season Firefly series run and two theatrical releases after shows' run.
@@NiaMakiReacts We all enjoyed it. She deserved it in general, and especially from Zoe. After kicking poor Wash in the head, YoSaffBridg should consider herself lucky to get just one punch!
The only two people not embarrassed to see Mal naked are Inara, who is “not puritanical about sex,” and Kaylee, who also isn’t but she’s also not sanctimonious about not being puritanical. It’s like the difference between people who lecture you about how bad it is to be racist and people who aren’t racist.
@@DanVibesTV Having watched the DVDs a bunch, the right order is : Heart of Gold, Objects in Space, Trash, and finally, The Message. I place that order because of a plot point in Heart of Gold that gets followed up in Objects in Space. Objects in Space leads to a couple comments in the next 2 episodes that make more sense having seen Objects first. Also, The Message was the last episode filmed and the music that plays during the final scene was written as kind of a farewell to the series.
@@NiaMakiReacts Of course, and I think that's what most people do. I only come to a different conclusion because I've watched the episodes sooo many times. :)
"I appreciate your honesty. Not, you know, a lot." My favorite line in the episode. 🤣
"He's my husband."
"Well who in the damn galaxy ain't?!"
I love this episode so much.
LOL that part!!
One of the best lines of the series in my opinion 😂
it has literally be fuckin YEARS but i still give a hard HAH when i hear it in its entirety
Is this the only episode that is a straight-forward, unmitigated win for the crew? Great episode, regardless.
"I seen you without your clothes on...never thought I'd see you naked."
One of the greatest lines ever on TV.
That line is truth
