I attended Bill Gothard seminars multiple times in the 80s as a young teenager. Y’all just have to understand you’re taught that your parents are under the protection of Gods umbrella and that if you are not under their authority, you are not under God and you are not under his protection so really bad things can happen to you. Not to mention that you’ll go to Hell if you die out from under their authority. These kids in this cult obey parents because they are terrified of what will happen to them if they don’t. They will come under Gods wrath. As a young lady you stay under your parents authority until that authority is given to your husband. Then you stay under Gods protective umbrella by submitting to him. When I would get home from these seminars, the first thing I’d do is apologize to my parents for having a bad heart and recommit to them. I’d just spent a week being made to feel horrible about myself. I was broken. You also have to understand that when you get that mentality hammers into you, it’s hard to let it go and come out if it. I was not in that cult but was in an Assembly of God church when I attended them. So many other churches adopted these bill gothard teachings because the way they were taught came across as good godly teachings. It’s like just enough of it is ok that it Sucks you in to the parts that are not ok as well if that makes sense. I’m now in my 50s and still trying to sort through things. I am still a Christian but honestly so much of the church as a whole is not what God intended for it to be. There is so much hate and rejection when the theme of the Bible and Christianity is a God of love who accepts people right where they are. I definitely have ptsd from things I’ve gone through in church. When people are leaving more wounded than they were when they come in, something is so desperately wrong! It’s really sad. I feel for Katey and I hope and pray she will realize her own self worth and her own right to stand up for herself. I hope that for all of the women caught up in this cult.

Thank you, I was sent to a treatment center that was cult like. I was shamed about everything! All of us were pitted against others and taught to act terribly. It was horrible and I'm so happy that these places are being exposed. My parents believed it was the way to go and never listened to me. We were denied access to any other worldly issues and forced to do a lot of horrible things.

This happens in local congregations as well.. be very careful churches tend to uphold their churches by laws and doctrine more than the Bible. You’ll find that out when you start questioning. There is such manipulation out there under the guise of” protection of the local church” we are saved when God has mercy on our soul…we are kept by the power of God we are not kept by the church.

My brother and I were forced to fast at these conferences in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I think we were in the pilot program when it was called ATIA. These conferences were every year. A particular one in Knoxville, TN, was HORRENDOUS. We were forced to fast and had very little sleep away from our parents. They forced my brother to call home and say he “committed to courtship” and then segregated him from the other 10,000+ kids. They forced him to sit on the other side of the stadium by himself, where everyone was facing him. I went and sat with him in defiance. We were completely singled out. During this same week we were called to Bill’s hotel room. He wanted to talk to us in his hotel room where he proceeded to kick an older student out of the ATIA program for wearing a pinky ring from his grandma. Sometimes weren’t allowed to eat.
One of Bill Gothard’s henchmen, Rick Lambert, assigned kids younger than my brother and I to have authority over us and command us to do what they willed. We were only 15 and 17, but these kids were even younger.
Anyway, my brother and I have never spoken to others about it all. I was in the program from 4th -12th grade. I would love for someone to prosecute Bill Gothard for the entire group of kids he victimized…not just the SA / SH stuff.

No “religious leader” measures up to Him, so we should never look to them. My son in law had one of the purity rings. He has not been pure. My daughter has been so discouraged in their marriage. He is from a southern Baptist church. He himself has been caught grooming young girls....girls his daughter's ages. His older 2 daughters have had to watch his ways of impurity that their lives have been messed up. Hes messed up their whole family. He knows how to control my daughter, but shes had it. Mind control. Im so upset that i want to go talk with our church leaders to make sure they dont have the same agendas. I will not give up on Gods word. God is the one being hurt by Gothardism. People have probably given up on churches. I know for a fact that we had fliers for these classes in our previous church bulletins. I went to a church camp where we had to kneel and if our dresses did not touch the floor, we had to sew lace on the hems of our dresses. Making girls wear dresses and hose on hot summer days is ludicrous .

Young women, ie teenage girls, are such easy targets for rhetoric and dogma like this. They are so impressionable because they have no life experience and are treated so differently in a family unit. If you have daughters, please be very careful about what they hear when it comes to faith/religion/dogma. The message that girls receive at like a church camp or a religious girls retreat is so very different than what boys hear. Case in point: in JR high, my brother and I went to a summer church camp with a youth group. During the course of a week long camp, which did include alot of fun standard camp activities, I and a bunch of girls, were encouraged, highly encouraged to sign a "purity until marriage" pledge. I asked my brother if he had too also...he shook his head looking very confused. Protect your kids from predators...both known and subtle!

Wow. As a Christian, I'm familiar with many of these scriptures and I'm shocked how they're twisting it to remove autonomy from these girls. I'm familiar with fasting. Some people in our church have done it but it's always their choice. It's always adults making that choice for themselves because they want to do it for personal reasons. It's never a minor. And I've never heard it being done for more than a day for a full fast.
Some people fast from a specific type of food - like soda or sugar - if they feel like they're using it to fill a void and then use that time to pray, read, reflect, and in general use it as a time to grow and improve an aspect of their life.

The Bible teaches us that before you pluck the mote (speck) out of your brother's eye, you must first ask God for help to remove the beam (log) out of your own eye. On your last video you made a statement about people who actually believe the Bible from cover to cover that was offensive. I believe the Bible from cover to cover & that is my choice. I also believe you take the scripture out of context concerning submission to your husband. If your husband is a Christian he would not be abusive or controlling just because you are being submissive to him. If a woman is being abused, she can leave the marriage. You are judging Christians, & women as if women are not smart enough to make their own decisions & are brainwashed. Tread lightly when you elevate your opinion above God & the Bible. Especially when you judge pastors that have been called by God & try to expose them because you do not agree with them. You think these pastors are dangerous & should not be allowed to preach.
