This song has a way of bringing back a flood of memories of home. A simpler time and place. And a tear to the eye of an older man longing for that simpler time and place.
Thank you for posting this! It came out when I was a new bride, 3000 miles from anyone I knew, and my new husband out to sea - Did this ever hit home for me! I loved them before, loved them even more. Have met them in person at shows, they are a great bunch of guys. Lost the recording when my house burned in '99.
When Dad got sick I played every song for him I could remember. The songs he played when I was a kid, like old Shep, Evening on the Prairie, Trouble in Mind, Happy Trails, jambalaya, Hey Good Looking, and I cried.
They were the best mis seen them out there but there boys are very good also sound like them an there selfs they are fun to they have the same hemer as there dad's did to bad about h. But he had a good long life I think an he made a lot fans happy very happy
@anchorchain1 You are so very welcome, I certainly share your sentiments for this song. It is one of my all time Statlers favourites, sadly I think the days are almost gone gor songwriting as heartfelt as this one, and a group like the Statlers to sing it.
this song haunted me 3 decades and I couldn't find the title until i started on the lyrics and now I have the privilige of listening to it because of you Barry, which I really appreciate. It's awesome how a young lad 's life can be told from youth to being old in one song. Thank you again Barry for the upload
Thanks so much for telling us name of album I want 2 try 2 locate it I love these guys what a privilege that our generation got 2 know and love them rip Harold and lew we won't see the likes of these fine men anytime soon
Yes, and the sad part is, we will never see this innocence again in our lifetime, maybe not even in our grandchildren's. As I look around I see us on a slippery slope into God knows what.

Talent like this will never come our way again, thanks for the memories of this wonderful group of fine singers...
Why don't they make music like this anymore? No bells or whistles, just a great sound with fantastic lyrics.
What a great song. I've heard others sing it but no one does it as good as the Statlers!!
You're right, they are a great group, with so many terrific songs, I never missed their show in the years it was on TV.

I feel the same way as you, about this fantastic song, The Statler Bros. songs weren't just words and Music, they were great memories.
Bevy you are so right. I miss them so much. Thankfully we got to see them so many times I have lost track.

I like this one too. One of the few songs they did with a fadeout.
What’s really great about these ‘oldies’ is that there is no foul language, no talk about cop killing, raping women etc etc etc

Thanks for the comment, they have so many good songs.
You're welcome, Isn't it a fantastic song.
Fantastic group, so sad not better known outside C&W world.
I know the guys are retired but I just wondered if they ever think of Lou
You're welcome.
@fek2000 On your recommendation I listened to The Statler Brothers version and it is great, but I think Presley's version shades it just slightly.
